Watkins feels the fever Coach views season as ‘promising’ By LynJosha Russell Sports Editor

Women’s basketball head coach Wanda Watkins is in her 33rd season at Campbell University and Watkins said she believes this season is a promising one. Watkins has been at Campbell for roughly forty years. She was a studentathlete for the four years of her undergraduate degree. Watkins also stayed at CampWatkins bell for her Master’s Degree. After completing her education, Watkins fulfilled her lifelong dream of coaching women’s basketball. “I consider myself pretty blessed,” Watkins said. “So many people go throughout their whole lives not knowing what they want to do with their lives and they are so unhappy. I can’t imagine my life without basketball. It’s just a great profession.” Senior forward Roslyn Presley said she has loved working with Coach Watkins. “She honestly has a caring heart for all of her players.” Presley said. Coach Watkins has always been “Campbell Proud” and said she sees each team individually. “This [year’s] team is very unique in its own way,” she

New sorority, fraternity begin recruitment preparations

With the inception of Greek Life to CU, the Greek Life Committee welcomes new fraternities and sororities to campus, including Phi Delta Theta and Sigma Alpha Omega. Phi Delta Theta has begun the colonization process and has 16 founding fathers at CU thus far. Once the chapter is established, it will take a year to be an official fraternity. Also, Sigma Alpha Omega (SAO), Campbell’s first sorority begins recruitment Jan. 2330. Their recruitment week theme is “Everyone wants to be first class.” According to their executive board, SAO chose their

As part of initiation and preparation for their charter, SAO traveled to Topsail Island for a mandatory retreat. theme because they wanted to parallel the idea of the N.C. state motto, “First in Flight.”
