Hunger Week strikes chord By Christian Hornaday

Staff Writer

As Thanksgiving approaches, the Campbell University Social Work Club hosted multiple events last week during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, raising awareness and promoting thankfulness around campus.

Each year during the week before Thanksgiving, the National Coalition for the Homeless leads the nation in a time of raising the awareness of peers, neighbors and community members who are experiencing a shortage of food or don’t have a stable place to live. This year, Campbell’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

events ranged from a box-a-thon, where students camped outside in cardboard boxes in Academic Circle, to a hunger banquet where students were each dealt meals of different qualities based on different incomes. Food donations were also accepted all See Hunger Week, Page 7

The club is expected to assemble on campus next semester, and is planning to help Campbell students gain a better understanding of gun rights and regulations. Service learning benefits students not only academically and professionally, but also personally. Students increase their understanding of material learned in the classroom, grow their understanding of diverse cultures and communities, and enhance their skills through communication, collaboration and leadership. While service learning is an opportunity for students to improve their skills by providing service to others, Campbell’s service learning and mission trip-leading faculty look at the importance of doing so in an ethical way.
