Campbell’s campus gets TAGged University-wide Thank A Giver Day to celebrate Campbell’s donors By Yasmeen Richie Staff Writer

A University-wide TAG Day, or Thank A Giver Day, is set to take place this Thursday, Oct. 16. Orange gift tags will be displayed on items and places throughout campus that have been made pos-

sible via donor gifts. The tags will include the donor of each item and the donation amount. Sarah Swain, a 2005 Campbell grad and current director of annual giving, said she hopes TAG Day will help students appreciate how much donors have helped them in their Camel journey.

“Over the years, people have chosen to give to Campbell, and those gifts have made our university the place our students call home,” Swain said. Statistics reveal the generosity that has been shown to Campbell. Swain said more than 4,600 donors contributed to Campbell through

financial gifts in 2013 alone. Swain said she wants current students to understand that outsiders value students’ education, and that one day students themselves will be able to provide future Campbell students with similar opportunities through donations. See TAG Day, Page 6

shop will offer a full-service menu, use the Starbucks reward system and accept Starbucks gift cards. It’s not the first introduction of Starbucks on campus. The Oasis had served limited Starbucks options for the past 10 years, though it lacked Starbucks food items and didn’t accept gift cards or offer a reward system. The Oasis location was closed at the beginning of the

semester. The addition of the full-service Starbucks was determined based on research compiled by Aramark, Campbell’s food service management company. Campbell administration partnered with Aramark to gain access to the Starbucks franchise.

When sophomore Jesse Lockamy registered to donate bone marrow through his job at Coats Pharmacy his freshman year, he did not expect to be contacted to donate for at least a few years. “My co-worker who asked me to sign up had been on the registry for 15 years without being contacted,” said Lockamy, “I Lockamy definitely did not expect to be contacted within two months.” Yet two months later, DKMS Delete Blood Cancer contacted him with the possibility of matching a patient in need of a stem cell donation. Lockamy sent in more information, and was informed that he was a positive match for the patient. The patient to whom he would have the chance to donate, also happened to be battling the same form of Leukemia that took his See Life, Page 6
