At least three eruptive fissures perfectly aligned in the direction of La Restinga now expel magma in the eruption that has been occurring on El Hierro since the 10th of October As we go to press activity has so far peaked with an earthquake tremor measuring 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale, similar to the one that occurred last Wednesday, which was felt in La Gomera and Tenerife and produced landslides in Sabinosa and the area of Guinea. There has also been movement on the island of Meridiano. As a result of the quake, 31 people from eleven families have had to be evacuated in the neighbourhood of Las Puntas to ensure their safety. As soon as magma material started coming from the south the earth trembled to the north with an intensity greater than 4 on the scale Richter scale. Scientists believe there are possibly two or more seperate eruptive processes occuring simultaneously each being driven by a massive build up of magma under El Hierro.
Some theories go as far as to say that this is just a small piece of what is about to occur, suggesting that the magma chamber shared with La Palma island could mean a much larger and more explosive surface eruption is on the way that could do a lot more than simply boil water off the coast. American reporter Mary Greeley has gone as far as to say that the whole Archipelago could be at risk of a major geological catastrophe due to the connections between the magma chambers under all of The Canary Islands (see our website for more on this) Meanwhile the whole world is watching and waiting to see if serious disaster is about to strike on this island of molten iron (El Hierro) which continues to get hotter by the day, and is fast becoming an unexpected tourist attraction... more on page 2-3

More on Page 6 LATE: Saturday 5th Nov - The El Hierro eruption has explosively broken through the surface of The Sea of Calm causing the reevacuation of more than 200 people from the nearby town of La Restinga on the southern coast. Latest reports state that explosions have been seen reaching up to 20 meters in to the air. According a statement provided by the Government of the Canaries, the decision was taken "after observing changes in the eruptive phenomenon, with ash plumes seen in the area" Follow the story on TheCanaryNews.com
