YOUR GUIDE TO THE FESTIVAL

GETTING HERE

Centred at the heart of the festival will be the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds. To ensure it runs smoothly there will be road closures and changes to public transport over the weekend. Please make sure you plan ahead for any journeys.

Park and Ride Street Theatre Theatre doesn’t always need to be in a black box with curtains. Enjoy national productions performed in the open air.

Roaming Performers These performers aren’t static, you’ll see them pop up in places all around the city centre. We’ve given you their routes, see if you can catch them along the way.

Music There’s nothing better than the sounds of live music filling the air during the festival. Check out the local musical acts we’ve scheduled to perform.

Interactive Look out for opportunities to join in the fun and be part of the action.

The two Leeds Park and Ride sites will be open over the weekend, at Elland Road and Temple Green. If you’re attending the event in the city centre and travelling by car, please make use of this facility as parking in the city centre will be limited.

Access Please email carriageworks@leeds.gov.uk if you have any questions or to discuss access requirements. Alternative formats are available. This leaflet is also available online via the Carriageworks theatre website. As this is an Outdoor Festival in the city centre, the event and all performance areas are fully accessible and open to all.

ALL THE EVENTS ARE FREE!

STREET THEATRE

First Person City Square

Jason Maverick Solo Show

2 players – 30 minutes – 1 ultimate prize.

Dortmund Square

Welcome to First Person – your race to the top of life’s success mountain. Do you want to prosper in the cut-throat world of adulthood and find happiness? Then First Person will prepare you for the climb to the summit of life’s health, wealth and wellbeing peaks.

High-energy shows, set almost entirely to music, combining superb mime and robotics with a huge range of circus skills including ball, club and contact juggling, clown and physical theatre.

Made especially for public spaces and influenced by video games; First Person is a quirky fusion of fast paced narrative, physical theatre and silent disco technology. Grab your headphones, predict your winner and cheer them on to the finish line. Success Mountain is waiting...

ROAMING PERFORM Natural Theatre Company Performing different characters

Our shows are seen in odd places, sometimes even wandering around a city. Delightful characters that wander and mingle with guests, visitors and the general public.

Man on the Moon Victoria Gardens

George Orange is an eccentric clown and slackrope dancer from Chicago who ran away with the American circus in 1989. He has been a performance artist, cruise ship entertainer, drag performer, teacher and mascot. George has come via the Moon and brought a bit of it with him. Follow his journey with slack rope walking, contortionism, bottle balancing and help him walk across the moon.

Adjudicators ‘Miss Timed’ and ‘Miss Judged’ are two firm but fair sports-day adjudicators. Impeccably dressed and determined to keep all fun and games in order! With daft time trials, score cards and ridiculous medal ceremonies. Everything is a race and everyone is encouraged to go for gold!

Sports Stars These absurdly athletic triathlon characters will be bouncing amongst crowds. Their powerskip stilts enable the giant bouncing Sporting Stars to reach impressive heights of 1m off the ground.

MERS Sports Guides

Solo Circus

Always bursting with knowledge, history and statistics, these action sport guides will walk you around the sporting arena that you didn’t even know existed. Our Guides will make pram racing vie with crisp eating and lamp post leaning for the most talked about events of the day!

Circus skills entertainer, juggler, stilt walker and comedy cyclist, Solo Circus performs on various ridiculous bicycles including unicycles, penny farthings and a stilts bicycle. Physical skills and daft banter guaranteed!

Sports Day 80’s PE teachers, Mr Stretch and Mr Armstrong are always firm but fair. They are on a mission to get the nation fit using their enthusiasm, a roving musical pommel horse and some PE kits rescued from the lost and found locker. Remember it’s not about the taking part, it’s the winning that counts!

Cuthbert Clott Cuthbert is a big fan of penny farthings and from the age of 5 has competed in several major races around the world. He is yet to actually win a race but is convinced he can smell his victory just around the corner.

Previous events include Tour de France, Tour Series, Tour of Britain, Giro d’Italia and more.
