P o s s i b l y t h e most e n t e r t a i n i n g s p e c t a t o r e v e n t i s a b o a t b u i l d i n g c o n t e s t i n w h i c h s i x teams o f c o n t e s t a n t s w i l l b u i l d b o a t s o f t h e i r own d e s i g n and r a c e them. The w i n n i n g team r e c e i v e s t h e L a k e U n i o n C h a l l e n g e Cup. J u d g i n g is based o n speed o f b u i l d i n g and r a c i n g , p l u s f a c t o r s o f c o s t , o r i g i n a l i t y , a e s t h e t i c s , showmanship, and w e i g h t o f t o o l s . A t o y b o a t b u i l d i n g w o r k s h o p f o r k i d s o f a l l ages awards p r i z e s d a i l y . T h e r e ' s an a u c t i o n o f m a r i n e g e a r and o t h e r g o o d i e s . The c o n t e s t i s a s t r e t c h i n g e x e r c i s e f o r t h e b o a t b u i l d e r s ' c r e a t i v i t y , p l a n n i n g , and c o n s t r u c t i o n s k i l l s , b u t i t s s p e c i a l p u r p o s e i s t o p r o v i d e a n e x c i t i n g and e n j o y a b l e e x p e r i e n c e f o r c o n t e s t a n t s and spectators. Any d e s i g n may b e s u b m i t t e d . There are no l i m i t s on s i z e or m a t e r i a l s , e x c e p t t h a t o n l y c e l l u l o s e - b a s e d p r o d u c t s may b e u s e d f o r t h e main s t r u c t u r e of the boat.
