A Ten Day Adventure In Maritime History Day 1 - Thursday: Departure - British Airways regular evening service to London from your international gateway city. Day 2 - Friday: Lord Addison will greet your arrival at the airport. Your courier will meet you for transfer to our central London hotel. There will be time to settle in and explore the neighborhood and an afternoon orientation to the city. Tonight, a festive dinner party will bring the group together. Welcome to London! Day 3 - Saturday: Morning sight-seeing introduces you to the city's most famous monuments: Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, St. Paul's, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and so much more. We'll finish the morning beside the Thames in Greenwich. You'll have the afternoon to explore the Royal Maritime Museum, Greenwich Observatory, and the Cutty Sark, returning to Westminster by boat along the Thames. Our party will gather again this evening for an early pub supper and the theatre. Day 4 - Sunday: Leaving London this morning by Britrail Intercity train from Paddington for "The Cornish Riviera." Across the green countryside to the West Country of Somerset and Devon, our destination is the ancient port city of Plymouth. From Elizabethan days, the harbor of Plymouth has fared prominently in English maritime history. Privateers and explorers like Hawkins, Raleigh and James Cook sailed from Plymouth Sound. Time to walk the harbor, rest and see the city. Day 5 - Monday: A day exploring historic Plymouth: the cobbled alleys and quays of The Barbican, the famous Pilgrim Steps commemorating the Mayflower sailing, Sutton Harbor, the squarerigger Kathleen & May, and The Hoe, where Sir Francis Drake played bowls before greeting the Spanish Armada. Our courier will get the morning started, and then the day is yours for adventures in Plymouth. The group will join up again for stories over dinner. Day 6 - Tuesday: We head north today along the Devon coast. Our morning stop will be the historic river port of Exeter, and the Maritime Museum in England's first ship canal. We'll follow the

coast road into Dorset, to Lyme Regis and across Chesil Beach to Weymouth, regarded among Britain's most spectacular scenic coasts. Then, through the heart of Thomas Hardy country to our hotel in The New Forest. There will be plenty of time to relax and explore before dinner. Day 7 - Wednesday: Today's excursion lies in The New Forest. Deer and ponies wander freely through hard wood glades and over furze and bracken-covered moors. We'll visit Bucklers Hard, the 18th-century shipbuilding village of the Napoleonic wars. Great English ships of the line were built on its quays, but the village today is a living museum of the days when Britannia unquestionably ruled the waves. We'll also visit the renowned spring gardens of Exbury, housing the famous Rothschild collection of azaleas and rhododendron. Day 8 - Thursday: We will return to London today via seaside Portsmouth, one of Britain's most important commercial ports and home of the Royal Navy. This historic waterfront is highlighted by visits to the H.M.S. Victory, Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar, Henry Vlll's ill-fated Mary Rose, and the newly restored Victorian ironclad, H.M.S. Warrior. There'll be time to walk the harbor and have lunch in one of the area's colorful pubs. We'll return to our London hotel in late afternoon. Time is now your own in this resplendent world capital. Your courier will be on hand with assistance and ideas. Day 9 - Friday: A full free day in London. You might head (or The City to see the great Museum of London, or to Whitehall for The Cabinet War Rooms. Shopping on Regent Street or among the stalls in Covent Garden is always popular. The British Museum or The Tate Gallery, lunch in Shepherds Market or high tea in the lounge, Harrods or the V & A: we are only spoiled for choices. Tonight perhaps a last evening at the theatre, or dinner at one of Lord Addison's favorite Indian restaurants. Day 10 - Saturday: A last minute stroll down to The Thames or a bit of shopping perhaps, before we transfer to the airport for returning British Airways flights. It's a fond farewell to England, and a wish to return soon.
