Nationally known canoe-builder and instructor, Jerry Stelmok, will instruct a small class in the building of a 17 1/2' Thurlow-designed guide boat of wood-canvas construction. Wood-canvas canoes represent a technique used since the 1880's. Many consider this the finest technique for building a lightweight and strong canoe. Woodworking experience necessary. Under the leadership of Simon Watts, another nationally known author and boatbuilder, a small class will build a 19 1/2' lapstrake rowing shell, while learning basic boatbuilding skills. A comprehensive introduction to marine navigation, including tides and currents, inland water navigation, development of maps and charts, chart reading, dead reckoning and plotting, celestial navigation and much more, including discussion of electronic navigational aids.

A seminar for those sailors who have already developed their basic sailing skills and wish to acquire additional in-depth knowledge of advanced rigging and sails; methods for the setting and fine tuning of sails on high performance cruising and racing sailboats. Seminar includes three evening lectures and one day-sail.

Blake Lewis is an ASA Certified Celestial Navigator, with years of experience on inland and coastal waters, and thousands of miles of ocean racing and boat deliveries.

In the process of learning to use a few basic power tools - table saw, bandsaw, elec. drill, router, sander - each class member will build a small bench or stool, usable as a stepping stool, child's bench or loom bench, depending on size. Corrine Anderson has taught loom-building classes in Calif, and in Seattle, and has manufactured looms, benches, and weaving equipment for over 12 years.
