MENSA HELDERBERG QUARTERLY REPORT Mensa Helderberg launched in September last year, and currently has 31 members, comprising 15 new members, 10 previously-lapsed members, and six members who have transferred their membership to Helderberg. Four testing sessions have been held in Somerset West, with 29 candidates testing, 20 of whom passed. SOCIALS October: Theatre evening - Further than the furthest thing November: Picnic concert at Stellenzicht wine estate January: Picnic concert at Stellenzicht wine estate February Guided fynbos hike at Kogelberg/Steenbras nature reserve MEDIA Mensa Helderberg has had six articles and notices published in the two local newspapers, and two radio spots on Helderberg Radio. We have posters displayed at four local libraries, at local schools, and at Stellenbosch University. NEWSLETTER A monthly newsletter has been sent to Helderberg members every month since inception, as well as to members of the Cape region, although the Helderberg will shortly have its own, dedicated mailing list.
FUNDING The region is already largely self-supporting, in terms of being able to pay for its own testing sessions and venue hire, and even subsidising social events. The additional funding required for start-up, which was provided by National, has been covered more than three times over by the additional revenue generated from subscription income. FUTURE GROWTH Helderberg requires 35 members to be recognised formally by National as a region, and is confident that this number will be achieved easily before the end of the membership year, particularly as a number of current Cape Town members resident in the Helderberg area will likely transfer to Helderberg at renewal.
