RIOT GAMES MENA CELEBRATES VALORANT’S MENA SUCCESS WITH A TRIFECTA OF INTERACTIVE HYBRID EVENTS

Riot Games MENA has unveiled a first-of-its-kind hybrid event series across the MENA region that will see fans attending in-person battles with players online to celebrate the incredible support and growth of its latest hit game VALORANT. The first event, taking place at Topline Family Park in Cairo, Egypt, will feature a dramatic interactive battlefield, performances by renowned DJs such as Just Zeina, and appearances by some of the region’s top gaming talent including EstubeGaming, LeOniDeS, ShaDowZa and Tuna. To celebrate the passion for VALORANT that has taken the MENA region by storm since its launch in late 2020, the Cairo event, running from 10-11 December, will feature two waves that are each three hours long, of which the first waves on each day will be broadcast live on Twitch. With limited spaces available at the in-person event, the game resets in between waves to allow as many people as possible to experience the thrill.
It’s the first weekend of 2022 and #DestinationSoho is all set to welcome its first award winning rap artist Stefflon Don to the brand-new party destination Soho Garden Palm Jumeirah, located on the rooftop of the newly opened Nakheel Mall right at the heart of the palm this Sunday, January 9. The sensational artist will also be gracing the original entertainment hub, Soho Garden in Meydan on the January 8th. Stephanie Allen, better known as ‘Stefflon Don’, grew to fame when she collaborated with a number of high-profile artists including Lethal Bizzle, Sneakbo, Jeremih, and Wretch 32 on his 2016 album. In 2017, Stefflon Don was recognised for her talent on the BBC’S Sound of 2017 list and has collaborated with the likes of Jax Jones and Demi Lovato. Allen has won MOBO’s Best Female artist award along with NME’s Best New Artist.
Each wave mimics the hugely successful game by separating the physical and virtual worlds into Earth 1 and Earth 2 respectively with set missions and incredible storylines. Players at the in-person event will be in Earth 1, the physical realm, with a mission to defuse the objective otherwise known as the spike in the game. Players from Earth 2 (online virtual realm) will be attempting to sabotage their missions and will be able to interact with the events in the physical venue aided by a commander and an undercover agent. The commander is the online host of the event, who guides the show by live broadcasting from a remote studio while interacting with the audience and their undercover agent. The undercover agent, whose part is being kept under wraps until the event takes place, receives orders to aid the agents from Earth 2 in their sabotage. By handing the power to the community, RIOT Games aims to engage fans from across MENA through a single otherworldly mission experience. www.theciin.com

LOEWE AND STUDIO GHIBLI'S LATEST COLLABORATION LAUNCHES JANUARY 7

The fantasy world is a magnificent escape. It is a parallel reality in which everybody can learn something in the most heartfelt and fulfilling of ways and Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli are true masters of the fantastic. For our second collaboration, we have created a capsule collection celebrating one of the studio’s most acclaimed films, Spirited Away—the 2001 animated epic which secured director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli a number of prizes, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards ceremony. The film is an ode to loyalty, friendship, and stubbornness in the face of adversity. It is magical. The LOEWE x Spirited Away collection features all of the movie’s most iconic characters. From the young protagonist Chihiro, mysterious Haku and sorceress Yubaba, to Kaonashi the spirit with no face, Fly-Bird and the Susuwatari soot sprites, characters swarm across ready-to-wear, blankets and scarves, as well as appearing on leather and canvas bags including the Amazona, Puzzle, Hammock and Flamenco, Totes and small leather accessories. Figures are playfully rendered as jacquard, print, appliquè and patch, and leather marquetry, or embroidery. Landscapes become allover prints, the Susuwatari are interpreted as pompoms or as tufty bags. By stressing tactility and three-dimensional form, LOEWE artisans brought the characters to life, just as the movie’s spirits are brought to life in the real world. We also introduced pieces inspired by the classic Japanese technique known as ‘boro’ which consists of mended and indigo-dyed scraps patchworked together, creating intarsia of Kasuri textiles and Anagram jacquard canvas on both ready-to- wear and bags. In order to maximize the effect of surface treatment, we kept shapes loose and relaxed: T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, cardigans, oversized jumpers, culottes, as well as denim trousers and puffers. Ecological Building with Design Agrob Buchtal Linz, Austria

The hotel is located in Makran, a semi-desert coastal strip stretching from south-eastern Iran to Pakistan’s Baluchistan, and bordering the coasts of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. It is home to the strategically critical port of Chabahar, which sits in the vicinity.
Hand on heart: in the past, an eco-house was quickly associated with hippie flair. But those days are over. Today, the motto is: ecological building with design. One example is the case of Andrea Hörndler and Hannes Wizany from Austria, who report on their experiences in their blog, "Place to be". They have concluded that ceramic tiles from Agrob Buchtal not only look good, but also make a direct contribution to ecological building and, with the innovative Hytect surface, ensure a healthy indoor climate. "I believe that once you start thinking about your personal consumer behaviour, it's hard to close your eyes. It starts with little things, like cosmetics or food, and extends to building a house. That's also why we started asking ourselves how we actually want to live, what we really need, and how we can realize it in a sustainable manner”, Andrea Hörndler explains of the origins of her housing project. After approximately two years of intensive searching, they found the perfect plot of land near Linz: engulfed in nature, yet not too far from the city. Their declared goal: an ecological residential building no more than 100 square metres in size, which skillfully combines their demands with regard to sustainability and design.

Imposing architecture on stilts On the steep hillside plot, the "eco-house", built on stilts and largely of wood, catches the eye through its imposing architecture alone. In order to avoid sealing the ground, Hörndler and Wizany deliberately decided against building a basement. A support structure made of recycled steel carries the house and makes it look like a floating “living box”. The wood used comes from sustainable Austrian forestry, the insulation is made of straw blown in after the wheat harvest, and in the interior, building panels made of straw, clay slabs, and clay plaster provide a climateregulating effect. "Access to information on the subject of ecological building, or sustainable alternatives in the building industry in general, is extremely arduous”, sums up Hörndler. "We have therefore tried to document everything as well as possible, and to provide insights into our house via our blog." For example, the fact that ceramic tiles not only look good but also directly contribute to ecological building is one of the experiences which the two home builders are happy to share with their followers.

Sustainable floor and wall tiles "Of course, we were guided by the design when choosing the tiles, which is also how we came across the District series of Agrob Buchtal. But we also didn't want to give up our claim to sustainability. From our point of view, it is very difficult to design a bathroom ecologically - if only because it is not possible to do without waterproofing”, says Hörndler. Ceramic tiles, on the other hand, meet the ecological criteria, because they are made from natural raw materials with clay as the main component. Additionally, in the sum of their properties, ceramic tiles are one of the most sustainable floor and wall coverings of all. Almost all Agrob Buchtal tiles come with the innovative Hytect surface, providing special additional benefits: an antibacterial effect without chemicals, a neutralizer of unpleasant odours and air pollutants, and an are extremely easy to clean surface.

Trendy metro tiles The District series of Agrob Buchtal convinced Andrea Hörndler and Wizany with its glossy glaze, which is cleverly accentuated by the bevelled edges on all sides. The collection is inspired by the typical tile claddings of metro stations in big cities like Paris or London. It was used in 10 x 25 centimetres format on the walls in the bathroom and WC, and in 5 x 10 centimetres format in the kitchen. Grey floor tiles from the Agrob Buchtal collection help to create a harmonious overall picture in this combination. And, of course, they also have the innovative Hytect surface for healthy indoor air and better living quality.

Ceramic tiles which can do more The effect of Hytect is based on the principle of photocatalysis. For this purpose, titanium dioxide is durably baked into the glaze of the ceramic tiles as a "catalyst" which, when exposed to light, effects a reaction between light, oxygen, and air humidity. In this way, active oxygen is formed which, on the one hand, eliminates unpleasant odours and air pollutants including formaldehyde, tobacco, kitchen fumes, and typical WC odours. On the other hand, the active oxygen decomposes and inhibits the growth of micro-organisms such as bacteria, mould, algae, moss, and germs without chemical substances. The ceramic tiles provided with Hytect coating are also hydrophilic - i.e. water-friendly - and are therefore particularly easy to clean. Instead of forming drops, the water spreads evenly as a thin, flat film on the tile. The advantage: dirt is washed down by the water film and can then be easily removed. Hytect thus significantly reduces the use of cleaning agents and protects the environment. Furthermore, the photocatalytic effect of Hytect does not wear off, but rather is activated again and again by light alone. Normal room lighting is sufficient for this purpose.

Long-standing Portuguese estate São Lourenço do Barrocal has been in the same family for 200 years. The mantle has now passed to eighth-generation owner José Antonio, who spent 14 years refurbishing the entire property, breathing new life into a landscape with an old-world soul. Additions such as a Susanne Kaufmann spa and sleek new furniture lend a modern touch, but take nothing from the heritage of the buildings or the unspoiled meadows, olive groes and sun-soaked vineyards. And what about the breakfast? Here is the answer: a buffet stocked with some of the Alentejo’s best local produce, including a basked of artisanal bread and pastries with two varieties of local bread, rye and wheat, two types of croissants, with and without seeds, local pastries, slices of two types of cake of the day, homemade cookies, butter, homemade jam and honey from Monsaraz, seasonal fruits, chesses, charcuterie and hot drinks. Following in the footsteps of his ancestors, owner José is committed to living off the land: the oils, olives and vegetables used at the hotel all come from the estate itself. Automobili Lamborghini ended 2021 with a remarkable all-time record: 8,405 cars were delivered worldwide, making it the company’s best year ever on that front. Sales were up by 13% on 2020 due to a targeted and monitored growth strategy. The UAE is the biggest market for the car manufacturer in the region, with two dealers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, achieving sales of 158 units (+26% vs 2020, and +15% vs the previous record year in 2019). Strong growth also seen in Saudi Arabia, where Lamborghini has three dealers, in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar. At global level, there was double-digit growth in all three of the macro-regions where Lamborghini is established: America (+14%), Asia Pacific (+14%) and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa, +12%). The company maintains a fairly balanced split between them in global volumes, which stand at 35%, 27% and 39% respectively. In terms of individual markets, the USA held on to top spot (2,472 units, +11%), while China leaped into second place (935, +55%). They were followed by Germany (706, +16%) and the United Kingdom (564, +9%). There was also an increase in the figures for Lamborghini’s home market of Italy, where 359 cars were delivered in total (+3%). In terms of models, there was ongoing success for the Urus Super SUV with 5,021 units delivered globally. It was followed by the V10-powered Huracán, which saw a strong increase in sales up to 2,586 thanks to the impetus provided by the Huracán STO. In addition, there were 798 Aventadors (V12 model) delivered all over the world. Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, commented: “This record has provided confirmation of four factors for us: the solidity of our strategic plan, our brand’s outstanding international reputation, the competence and passion of our people and the exceptional professionalism and dynamism shown by our 173 dealers in 52 markets, who have continued to invest alongside us at a challenging, uncertain time.” The sales outlook continues positively into the new year, thanks to a substantial order portfolio that already covers almost the entire production planned in 2022. In addition to these models, in 2021 Lamborghini also presented its future electrification strategy. “Direzione Cor Tauri” (“Toward Cor Tauri”) is the name of the path that will lead the company through the decarbonization of its future models and the Sant’Agata Bolognese site, in accordance with the holistic approach of its environmental sustainability strategy. Throughout the product electrification process, there will be a constant focus on identifying technologies and solutions that can guarantee top performance and driving dynamics. More than €1.5 billion will be spent over the course of four years, in an epoch-defining investment that will see Lamborghini launch its first hybrid production model in 2023 and electrify its entire range by the end of 2024, with the aim of cutting CO2 emissions by 50% from 2025 onwards.
