Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Exhibition, Dragon and Phoenix – Centuries of Exchange between Chinese and Islamic Worlds, Opens to the Public

OCTOBER BIRTHSTONE EDIT BY MARIA TASH

15

H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, inaugurated Louvre Abu Dhabi’s exhibition, Dragon and Phoenix – Centuries of Exchange between Chinese and Islamic Worlds. The exhibition opens to the public on 6 October 2021 and will run until 12 February 2022. With more than 200 artworks on display, visitors can explore the cultural and artistic exchange between the Chinese and Islamic worlds from the 8th to the 18th century. A rich cultural programme will accompany the exhibition, offering an array of events, from dragon boating to kayak cinema and family film screenings. Organised by Louvre Abu Dhabi in partnership with Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet and France Muséums, the exhibition is curated by Sophie Makariou, President of Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet, with the support of Dr. Souraya Noujaim, Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Scientific, Curatorial and Collections Management Director, and Guilhem André, Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Chief Curator of Asian and Medieval Art. The artworks in Dragon and Phoenix represent long-lasting dialogue between China (the dragon) and the Islamic world (the phoenix), chosen from the collections of Louvre Abu Dhabi and Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet, alongside those of 12 international museums and institutions. The exhibition delves into the cultural exchange and prolific artistic production between the two worlds resulting in coveted luxury materials and artworks across a span of more than 800 years. Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, said: "Through the poetic title of Dragon and Phoenix, the many interpretations of these two fantastical creatures evoke the significant artistic exchange between two great cultures. The flourishing artistic production, the exquisite objects and materials that came from these two civilisations, brought together across land and sea, is extraordinary. We cannot wait for visitors to experience this fascinating exhibition. My sincere thanks to Sophie Makariou, the Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet, the Musée du Louvre, the Shanghai Museum and all our lending partners, without whom Dragon and Phoenix would not have been possible." Visitors will be taken on a journey organised in five chapters, through both land and sea trade routes, to explore the connections, artistic influences and remarkable untold stories, beginning from the establishment of the first Arab merchant colonies in Canton in the 8th century until the threshold of the 18th century. ‘The Islamic world’ references the regions that include countries, cultures and ethnic groups, who shared their affiliation to Islam during this period, such as the Mashriq region, Eastern Africa, Central Asia, the Indian Subcontinent and South-East Asia. September, 2021

Bursting with a spectrum of hues, October’s birthstone Opal at Maria Tash is one alluring pick. Whether it’s the luxury piercer’s iconic triple spike or the classic eternity clicker, the precious gemstone is sure to bring an abundance of optimism, creativity and spark to your life. Due to its kaleidoscopic properties, the colour-changing stone comes in an array of vivid rainbow hues – and makes for a striking addition.

What are your favourite childhood memories? My childhood memories of my pretending to having stomach pains to avoid going to school and my father asking me why it only happens when you have to go to school? I still remember dramas I used to do to avoid going to schools.

Who inspired you to take up acting as a career? Since childhood, I was very fond of poetry, painting, art, theatre and all kinds of creative works. I always participated in different cultural activities during my school. Although, I studied science but I knew I will not make use of it and after finish my college, I decided to get into this field. Acting really makes me happy and when I am on the set, I am the happiest.

the situation or emotions may be but if you have to act in front of the camera, you have to forget all that and focus on the role. I mean if you are not happy at that moment but the role is of a happy emotion, it’s quite challenging.

How has life been after the stabbing incidence and recovery? My life has been very good and I have become more stronger after that incidence. This has taught me many important lessons and to value life more. It has taught me to value the relations you have more and I am very grateful for everything. I had recovered in three months but had to do some surgeries and some laser treatments are still going on to clear all scars from the body as it is very important for an actress.

When and how did you get into acting?

How was the experience shooting in Manali for the new song “SHIKWA”?

During my college days, I was participating in fashion shows and act in plays. I used to even bunk college to go for shoots and auditions for Ads. My first Ad work was with Shilpa Shetty and Neha Dhupia for some hair brand. It was a big TVC and as I was doing all such projects and after completing college, I got into it full time.

The song is very nice and melodious. It was a great experience shooting this song with a perfect team like Raj sir and perfect lyricist Syed Qadri. We had lots of fun during the shoot. The landscape was beautiful. Although we shot it during the lockdown but it was a great experience.

How was it working alongside Anuj Saini?

Please briefly describe your journey so far? My journey is that I believe my destiny was doing acting and that’s why I moved to Mumbai and during my college days, I was already participating in all forms of arts and acting. During school days, I used to read lots of poetry and write poetry. Because the moment I finished college, I got a role in a TV show and then a South-Indian movie and then coming back to Hindi films and a lot of commercials, music videos. It has been a great journey and I am so happy for where I have reached today and doing all this work. God has been very kind to me and I am hoping and wishing to doing more interesting projects in the future.

Working with Anuj was fun. I had done another video with him and he is a great actor.

What kind of song is it and how do you feel about it? The song is so melodious, the lyrics as so perfect, music and directions are amazing. I felt so good doing this song. The song touches your heart and people who have gone through breakups will actually related to this song. The video we shot is so perfect and has a nice story and I am sure you all will love it when it is out.

What other projects are you now working on?

Best thing about being an actress? The best thing being an actor is that you can experience different emotions and live different lives. Knowing your own personality, you experience and learn about different personalities. Living your own life is challenging but living other personalities live is even more challenging.

One more video is about to be released and I am working on one music video. I have a new project in the south that will be starting soon. My web series Geisha is about to release soon. So, many things are coming up.

..And the hardest?

I would love to work with Ranbir Kapoor. He is such a brilliant actor. Also, Ayushman Khurana

The hardest thing I would say is that whatever September, 2021

Which Bollywood actor are you keen to work with and why?

19

and many other great actors like Rajkumar Rao and Vicky Kaushal.

Name your dream role you’d like to do one day? My dream role is playing a woman centric film and playing the role of a cop, like how Rani Mukherji played in Mardani. I would love to play such strong roles that gives you lots of energy.

Three things that make you happy? -Reading Guru grant Saheb or listening live from the Golden temple -Watching a good film or reading a good book -Exploring new places. Beyond all spending time with my family.

Do you have any tricks or routines to stay healthy and beautiful?

20

For keeping healthy, I do yoga and workouts. Even dancing is enough but workouts of any type are so important. For a good glow, meditation is very important. When you mediate regularly, you will see a different glow on your face. These two things are very beneficial.

Do you have any other secret talent(s)? I don’t know if it’s a secret but I do write very good. I write a lot of poetry and also people say I have a very good convincing power.

What is your message for your fans in the middle-east? I love the middle-east and all the gulf countries because they are so peaceful and systematic with very little crime-rates. I love the people living there. I love Dubai and will be visiting there very often and soon will be shooting a calendar for FilmFare in Dubai.

Your message for us at CiiN magazine? You guys are simply amazing. I love all your covers and you guys are doing an amazing work. The content is amazing and I love each page of your magazine. I am so grateful to be featured in your magazine and on your cover. I will be happiest to be part of your magazine. Thank you so much!

Givenchy Presents its SS22 Women's and Men's Collection

30

"For the Spring-Summer 22 collection, I wanted to build on the tradition of Givenchy's history while also really looking towards the future. To do this, I worked with people I admire across different disciplines who have truly unique perspectives including the artist Josh Smith, whose iconic work is incorporated throughout the collection, and the musician Young Thug, who created the entire score for the show. The collaboration and this collection offer people a remarkably immersive and special experience." Matthew M. Williams, Creative Director, Givenchy In Matthew M. Williams’ Givenchy, there is a mix of luxury and utility, lavishness and austerity, together with imperfect beauty and humanity. It points to the distinctly emotional side of the business of luxury and fashion that is sometimes forgotten in its confines; something that Williams is keen for all to partake in, particularly in this first live show experience. Bridging the classical, radical and practical, the silhouettes for both women and men explore the tension between extravagance and discipline, tradition and today. Material experimentation and construction of the silhouette is combined with an intense

contrast in clothing that could only be achieved and exist now. At the same time, the collection embraces tradition, the techniques of the salon and timelessness, proving that these distinct elements are not mutually exclusive. As always, at Givenchy, both classicism and subversion play a part. A stratification of eras and influences is found in the clothing, purposely layered and juxtaposed in looks: traditional masculine tailoring fabrics are featured in women’s and menswear, mohair wools, Napa leathers, cotton herringbones and Prince of Wales checks are bonded with neoprene and sculpted in form, applied to both corsets and peplums – drawn from Monsieur de Givenchy’s archive – together with shorts and minis, as well as more conventional suiting. Raw edges are cleanly sliced and embraced, adding a sense of modernity throughout; delicate Broderie Anglaise is contrasted and exposed, bound in as trim, while tulle and transparencies add lightness, freshness and airy appositions; the urbane savoir-faire of the house and the homespun simplicity of handcraft are brought together in intricate tooling and ‘basket woven’ leatherwork, with macramé and raffia techniques for both clothing and bags. www.theciin.com

31

Besides the homespun and handcrafted take on accessories, the new ‘Kenny’ bag – first seen at the Met Gala – is gathered and ornamented with Williams’ characteristic hardware handles and Love Locks. Also making a debut appearance this season is the ‘Neo-Antigona’ – a new take on a much-loved classic – and the men’s latest multifunctional backpack with signature ‘4G’ fastenings. Meanwhile, the foundation of footwear sees further experimentation and evolution in a new approach to the humble, traditional clog in both thigh-skimming and short styles, with an integrated and moulded TPU heel for ultimate ease. While in classical, delicate contrast, women’s sandals are adorned with metallic ‘4G’ detailing. Also seen for the first time is a hardwearing, fully knitted shoe – from upper to sole – another complex experiment in comfort, craft and silhouette for the house under Williams. An interest in both the radical and the puritanical, of humble and homespun stencilling, printing and crafting, can also be seen in the work of the American artist Josh Smith. Williams worked extensively with Smith to realise designs with his artwork embedded, an effort of true collaboration throughout the September, 2021

collection. Here, the punch of the artist’s colour permeates the traditional Givenchy palette, with transformative, joyful effect, while his work featuring characteristic reapers, pumpkins and various personal ‘totems’ finds unmistakable form in clothing and accessories. As Josh Smith says of the collaboration: “Matt showed up in my studio and we started cooking together…we made some delicious things. We burnt some stuff and that tasted good too. Matt took a to-go bag back to Paris and shared all of this with his sharp creative team. This collection is a miracle. The sky is the limit. Thanks for taking a look.” The score for the entire show is by the musician Young Thug. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Young Thug is one of the most influential rappers working today, both an icon for a new generation and an iconoclast beloved of Matthew M. Williams. His soundtrack for Spring-Summer ‘22 exclusively features previously unreleased material as well as the debut of unheard tracks from his forthcoming album; “Punk”, to be released on October 15th.

The Giving Movement Drops a Fresh Collection for Winter A “ True Version of Self”- The faces behind the scenes star in the brand’s new-season campaign.

54

The region’s first sustainable athleisure brand born in the UAE, The Giving Movement, just dropped its latest collection this October adding new pieces to their existing line with a personal team-led campaign. Every piece of the AW21 collection reflects a ‘true version of self’, which is why the personalities behind the scenes at The Giving Movement star in their very own campaign.

The colour palette includes instant favorites like true black, seasonal grey, khakis and neutrals, all versatile hues that work well for the colder months of the year. A pop of electric blue and vivid greens add high-tones of more fun and brighter hues. For softer and muted shades, dusty pink, soft blue, and mint green continue from the previous seasons.

The brand’s bestselling pieces will be complimented by 78 new styles that will cover unisex, women’s, men’s, kids’ and modest ranges — plus a newly introduced maternity range. The total range available will consist of 110 styles using 100% sustainable materials that have been injected with substantial and considered newness in a fresh colour palette for AW21.

This new season also presents upgraded fabric innovation, as loungewear’s Softskin100© fabric comes back with 100% sustainability upgrade. Previously featuring regular spandex, the brand has now created the fabric as a combination of 80% recycled polyester and 20% recycled spandex. The recycled spandex places the brand in the global league of contributors to new methods of fabric innovation. The result? Increased support, an upgraded brushed technique for buttery-soft texture, as well as being high-impact, sweat-proof and lightweight.

A story of eco-friendly disruption and celebrating regional nature brings together five sets of different palettes: Pastel Edge, Sage the World, Arabian Stallion, Neutral Calm and TGM After Party.

The new season also comes with RE-DOWN100© fabric is introduction: 100% recycled crinkled nylon puffer filled with 100% recycled polyester filling. The warm, lightweight www.theciin.com

windbreaker makes an appearance in a new range of outwear, plus tops and bottoms. This is in addition to the organic cotton ethically sourced from India, organic bamboo and the innovative RE-SHELL100© fabric of 100% sustainable crinkled nylon. All fabrics are GRS and OEKO-TEX certified. The Giving Movement’s brand identity is further enhanced onto key styles through a printed take on their signature aesthetic. Across Active and Loungewear, the brand’s first-ever standout prints are introduced. Activewear Newness for adults include staples oversized T-shirts, leggings, biker shorts and tank tops that now come in new-season colours. Distinct prints will be seen for the first time on 4 different streetwear pieces and T-Shirts. Tank tops will come in multiple choices for fit preferences: tight and semi-loose fits, crop and longer lengths. Maternity options include leggings and shorts from the Active collection. September, 2021

Trend Ruched Style are introduced to tops and bottoms. Leggings come in stirrup, split front, ruched and flared styles.

Outerwear Best-selling Recycled Nylon Shell pieces (Shacket, Full-Length Jacket and Pocket Windbreaker) make an appearance in the new AW21 palettes. The collection also features the newly introduced and recycled Nylon Puffer Shell pack that is ideal for layering: a gilet, bomber jacket and full-length coat.

Loungewear Foundation lounge pieces come in new seasonal colours and two street-inspired prints: hoodies, joggers and shorts.

Kidswear Alongside existing Active and Loungewear for kids, the range has further extended to Recycled Nylon Shell, Recycled Nylon Shell Puffer Outerwear, Future Contrast Stitch Styles and new sets of prints.

MCM RELEASES NEW MONOGRAM EXECUTION: CUBIC

70

In the 45 years between the brand’s birth and today, the globetrotting vehicle that is MCM has touched down on all corners of the world, bringing its luxurious vision of the high-life with it. In our stretch of history, we’ve been embraced across the global pop culture spectrum, becoming a little less Munich, and a little more Planet Earth. Time doesn’t move in a straight line, it fluctuates. Up and down, side to side. For 44 years, MCM had one monogram, the widely recognized Cognac Visetos. Now, celebrating 45 years in the game, it’s three. Earlier this year, the Vintage Jacquard Monogram was released, which reimagined our house iconography with a highly

specialized woven technique using methods pioneered by the Bauhaus textile school. Now, MCM is inviting you to look at the brand with new eyes. We are lifting the curtain on another icon, only this time it’s brand new. Meet Cubic, the latest addition to the family. It’s simplified and streamlined, which might make one think of the Bauhaus’s clean lines. But it’s also hypnotic and never-ending, like time. Glance at it, and it’ll catch your eye. Look at it hard enough, and you’ll get lost in it. Inspired by one of our signature house codes featured in the visetos monogram, the diamond design based on the Baravian www.theciin.com

71

Flag, our country of origin. The new cubic monogram reimagines our house code with a dimensional aesthetic, presenting a transformation from a 2d motif into a 3d signature signifying the transformative journey we are taking with of our cross-category approach. ‘The introduction of a new monogram represents our journey from past to future, indoor to outdoor, construction to deconstruction, east to west, physical to digital. It serves as our new Zeitgeist from virtual to hyperreality. Its multidimensional composition is a visual conceptualization of the brand’s M’ETAVERSE, featuring a repeating pattern which symbolizes a convergence of the lives our consumers lead as well as the voyages and destinations which comprise them.’ Dirk Schönberger, MCM Global Creative Officer. September, 2021

The new Cubic Monogram is woven as jacquard with nylon and wool as well as printed on cotton and nylon and embossed onto leather. It might sit in the background of MCM’s cleaner, more functional pieces. It might be shouting loud, playing center stage in the bolder moments of the MCM stage show. Or maybe it’ll be standing on its own, as an icon in and of itself. So now, 45 years after being born in the midst of Munich’s wildest nights, things are the same, but different. We could have stayed in a safe place and continued business as usual, but MCM is all about bold decisions, and bold steps. MCM has been unconventional and unpredictable since day one. That’s the thing with time. You never know where it’s taking you.

PAUL SMITH PRESENTS WOMEN’S SS22 COLLECTION IN PARIS

76

An organic colour palette leads the transition from dawn to dusk, taking in warm orange sunrise hues through to brilliant sky blues and midnight blacks. Looks are tonally coordinated to give these glorious summer colours their moment to shine. Earth tones further root the collection in natural colours, while punctuation points of bright red and acid yellow cut through the palette. www.theciin.com

77

Announcing the coming of Spring, sunflowers shoot up throughout the collection. With its innate positivity, the sunflower represents the mood of the collection. Reworked in various forms from foiled silver fabric with screen print repeat motif or woven into knitwear of citrus and sky blue. The photographic print is reimagined to read as a fabric texture with a bleachedout effect and pop art sunflowers appear hand-drawn on silk. Elevating the central theme of lightness, fabrics have been chosen for their weight and the way they move through space. Transparent nylons are used to inject a sportswear edge. The silhouette plays with a boyish look that softens the collection, combined with a feminine delineation. There is a push and pull

between loose and form-hugging. Youthful details are found throughout. Jackets are reimagined, from a straight cropped fitted jacket with waist suppression, to a boxy zipped style, alternatives to traditional tailoring are explored. Checks, enlarged across knitwear or more traditionally on suiting styles acknowledge Paul Smith’s roots. Trousers are wide and give a sense of ease while shorts inject informality. Stripes become a central theme, woven through the collection, from integrated detailing on trims such as the pocket of a traditional Mackintosh, or knitted on the collar of the fitted hero jacket, to an all-over knitwear dress. The stripe has been reenergised and reintegrated throughout the collection.

Berluti highlights the couture norvégienne

92

Berluti presents its latest artisanally crafted couture norvégienne detail, present in a selection of shoes, leather goods and ready-to-wear pieces. First revealed during the Winter 2021 fashion performance which took place on April 8th, couture norvégienne is a white stitch braided embroidery, traditionally employed in shoemaking to better insulate the upper and the welt from extreme weather, and which can exclusively be achieved by hand. Used not only in shoes, but also in bags, leather outerwear and ready-to-wear pieces, it highlights Berluti’s craftmanship and bootmaker expertise. Berluti’s creative team has drawn inspiration from the bold Ultima shoe - a 2001 model imagined by Olga Berluti and kept among the Maison’s archives - to come up with an innovative shoe with a thick rubber outsole and a modern attitude. Designed with an audacious round shape within a square toe and with everyday wear comfort in mind, it is made in Venezia leather with TDM Intenso patina – the most emblematic patina of the maison and completed by decorative couture norvégienne.

www.theciin.com

93

Couture norvégienne is also found in bags, both as a decorative and a functional element, intensifying Berluti’s artisanal value. Two brand new bags – part of the Winter 2021 collection - pay homage to the technique by taking the names of Norwegian towns: Narvik is an exceptionally supple special-order tote. Emblematics are also reworked to include couture norvégienne, featured in the Un Jour briefcase, the Toujours tote and the Nino clutch, all of them in Venezia leather. Finally, a selection of outerwear and suiting pieces from the collection take on the artisanal braiding of couture norvégienne, used to accentuate the silhouette and underline Berluti’s craftsmanship and savoir-faire. Raglan sleeves are hinted at in a checkered coat and a short jacket through leather bands complete with white stitching; leather blousons are decorated with it, both tone-on-tone and in contrasting colours; and a down jacket displays the braided stitching over its quilting lines, rendering it unique. The Berluti Ultima shoe is now available in Berluti stores. The couture norvégienne leather goods and ready-to-wear pieces will be available in Berluti stores from October 2021. September, 2021

An 4000, festival jury prize winner for the theme of transition Each year in Montpellier, since its founding in 2006, the Festival des Architectures Vives is organized by the Champ Libre association. The festival is an architectural path for the general public, who can discover or rediscover unexpected places of urban heritage – such as mansions and courtyards – through installations created by teams of architects around a chosen theme. The FAV 2021’s theme was 'Transition', approached from multiple perspectives: ecological, digital, human, and environmental. It is around that last perspective that Atelier AJO designed its installation, An 4000, winner of the jury prize.

An installation offering a vision of a possible distant future "An 4000. Visitors look into the mirror and experience a future scenario. Upon approach, their reflections fade down: they no longer exist. Humanity is no more. However, the planet continues to exist without them, as it did for 99.9% of its history. Through a long transition, and with an incredible capacity for resilience, Nature proliferates infinitely from all sides, absorbing any traces left by Humanity on the ecosystem." A kinetic and interactive installation The device is simple: a one-way mirror facing a single mirror. The visitor, standing behind the first mirror, experiences self-contemplation. As the person moves forward, it is no longer their own image that they see, but rather the reflection of the second mirror and the vegetation mass located in the gap between the two mirrors, reflected ad infinitum - a possible vision of the space submerged in nature in 2000 years' time. About Atelier AJO Atelier AJO was born from the joining of two architects, Alice Delattre and José Roldán, with complementary Franco-Spanish approaches and cultures, following an initial collaboration within the RCR arquitectes agency in Spain. The architects attach equal importance to the design and manufacturing process, and the final object. They work on a small scale in order to link the architectural practice to the creation, touch, understanding, and hands-on research, paying particular attention to materials and intricate details. Atelier AJO strives to include their actions as part of a social commitment approach, constantly questioning the current challenges of the environment, consumption, and re-use.

Discover the singular beauty of the Namibian savannah

w w w. z a n n i e r h o t e l s . c o m

Luxury safari lodge Zannier Hotels Omaanda is under an hour from bustling Windhoek, but its rustic looks and avannah-swathed surroundings make it feel far more wild. The lodge lords over a 20,000-acre reserve founded by the Zannier Group and the Naankuse Foundation, a team of conservationists who run an on-site wildlife sanctuary. Echoing traditional Namibien houses, the 10 huts have conical thatched roofs and earthy exteriors that chime perfectly with the landscape. Because the morning game drives get going early, guests often have a light breakfast (a pastry or granola) therefore heading out, then have something heartier from the à la carte menu when they return. When you are not on game drives, cool off in the Savannah-facing infinity pool, sample a massage with Namibian botanicals or sip South African wine in the boma, which moonlights as a star-gazing platform after dark. www.theciin.com

ROLLS-ROYCE MOTOR CARS ANNOUNCES FIRST FULLY ELECTRIC CAR A PROPHECY FULFILLED, A PROMISE KEPT, A REMARKABLE UNDERTAKING UNDERWAY In an historic announcement, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced today, that on-road testing of its first fully electric motor car is imminent. In announcing this seminal moment for the marque, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chief Executive Officer, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, said: “Today is the most significant day in the history of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars since 4th May, 1904. On that date, our founding fathers, Charles Rolls and Sir Henry Royce, first met and agreed that they were going to create ‘the best motor car in the world’.

124

“Using the most advanced technology available to them at the time and by applying their remarkable engineering minds, these two pioneers elevated early internal combustion engine cars, from noisy, uncomfortable and rudimentary means of transportation, by setting a completely new benchmark of distinction. “The cars they created, introduced to the world a true luxury experience and secured for Rolls-Royce the ultimate pinnacle position that it continues to occupy, unchallenged, to this day. The marque has continued to define the very best in internal combustion motoring for more than a century. “Today, 117 years later, I am proud to announce that Rolls-Royce is to begin the on-road testing programme for an extraordinary new product that will elevate the global all-electric car revolution and create the first – and finest – super-luxury product of its type. This is not a prototype. It’s the real thing, it will be tested in plain sight and our clients will take first deliveries of the car in the fourth quarter of 2023.”

www.theciin.com

125

September, 2021

A PROPHECY FULFILLED “The use of electric motors is not a new concept for RollsRoyce. Sir Henry Royce was fascinated by all things electrified, and his first venture, named F. H. Royce and Company, created dynamos, electric crane motors and patented the bayonet-style light bulb fitting. “However, it was Charles Rolls who truly prophesied an electrified future for automobiles. In April 1900 he experienced an early electric motor car named the Columbia and declared its electric drive to be ideal. “Rolls said, ‘The electric car is perfectly noiseless and clean. There is no smell or vibration, and they should become very useful when fixed charging stations can be arranged. But for now, I do not anticipate that they will be very serviceable – at least for many years to come.’ “Charles Rolls’ prophecy has been the subject of constant consideration during the marque’s Goodwood era. But we have not been satisfied that available technology could support the Rolls-Royce experience. Until now. “Now is the time to change the course of the future of luxury. “We embark on this bold new future with a huge advantage. Electric drive is uniquely and perfectly suited to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, more so than any other automotive brand. It is silent, refined and creates torque almost instantly, going on to generate tremendous power. This is what we at Rolls-Royce call ‘waftability’.

126

A “ t Rolls-Royce, we have been experimenting with an electric powertrain for some time. In 2011 we revealed 102EX, a fully operational all-electric Phantom. We followed this in 2016 with our fully electric 103EX, which represented our vision for the marque several decades into the future.”

A PROMISE KEPT “These extraordinary products prompted a huge amount of interest in electric powertrain technology amongst our clients. They considered it as the perfect fit for Rolls-Royce. And, over the past decade, I have been repeatedly asked, ‘When will Rolls-Royce go electric?’ and ‘When will you produce your first electric car?’ “I answered with an unambiguous promise: ‘Rolls-Royce will go electric, starting this decade.’ Today, I’m keeping my word.”

A REMARKABLE UNDERTAKING “Charles Rolls’ prophecy and my promise have led us to a seminal moment for the marque. Rolls-Royce has embarked on an historic and unique undertaking, which today becomes a reality. Our designers and engineers have worked relentlessly to bring us here: we are now ready to commence road-testing of the first all-electric Rolls-Royce in history. “This fundamental change in our powertrain technology requires that we challenge every single aspect of the product before we offer it to the most discerning and demanding individuals in the world – our Rolls-Royce clients. “To do this, we have conceived the most demanding testing programme in Rolls-Royce’s history. We will cover 2.5 million kilometres – a simulation of more than 400 years of use for a Rolls-Royce, on average – and we will travel to all four corners of the world to push this new motor car to the limit. “You will see these test cars on roads, around the world. Look out for them – they will be in plain sight. They will be tested in all conditions and over all terrains on their multi-millionmile journey – that will literally accelerate Rolls-Royce into the future.”

www.theciin.com

TRULY FLEXIBLE ARCHITECTURE OF OUR OWN “In 2017, we debuted Phantom, and with it the marque’s proprietary aluminium architecture: a scalable and flexible spaceframe that would underpin all forthcoming Rolls-Royce motor cars. This unique technology – developed for Rolls-Royce by Rolls-Royce and reserved for the marque’s exclusive use – was created to form the foundation of not just different internal combustion engine models, as it now does with Cullinan and Ghost, but models with completely different powertrains. “To this end, our forthcoming electric car benefits from the RollsRoyce architecture and therefore the extraordinary experience of a Rolls-Royce on the road. Free of any group platform sharing strategy, we were able to integrate our plans for an electric powertrain into the architecture’s initial design and ensure that this extraordinary new product meets the extremely high expectations of our clients.”

A NEW NAME: A NEW LEGACY “This Rolls-Royce is the fulfilment of a prophecy and it represents a promise kept as we embark upon a unique undertaking. It is the beginning of a new legacy for our brand. In that spirit, we have decided on a completely new name for this car. A name that is as powerful and evocative as the nameplates that have served us so perfectly for the past century – names like Phantom, Ghost and Wraith. It’s a name that perfectly fits the ethereal and other worldly environment within which our products exist – a name that we have reserved especially for this moment: Spectre. “Spectre is a name given to otherworldly beings synonymous with great power and apparition; creatures of an alternative realm that make their presence felt through fleeting manifestation. A spectre forces the world to pause. It dominates the space it occupies. Then, as quickly as it appears, it dissipates, leaving a wake of exhilaration, energy, and intrigue. “This name perfectly matches the extraordinary Rolls-Royce that we are announcing today – a motor car that makes its presence felt before disappearing into a world inaccessible to all but the very few. As a quintessentially British brand, we have selected the British spelling, however the meaning is universal.

130 Following an eight-month redesign by multi-award-winning studio Dreimeta, Cervo Mountain Resort reopened in December 2020 as an updated, environmentally conscious Alpine hotel. Now, long-standing tradition meets the modern nomad’s spirit of mindful discovery for a relaxed yet refined basecamp from which to explore the surrounding landscape, as well as a multifaceted sanctuary to recharge in. With almost 95% of the resort’s energy requirements covered by geothermal energy, solar panels lining the balconies of accommodations, and three on-site restaurants stocked with locally cultivated produce, Cervo’s sustainability credentials are a direct manifestation the resort’s strong commitment to conscious travel. Additionally, the hotel aims to connect with its community through a range of engagement programs, such as Cervo’s partnerships with local initiatives Lebensraum Zermatt and Bikeclub Matteral. This spirit of collaboration and service is further punctuated by Cervo’s support of a regular local soup kitchen and vegetable market, in addition to the area’s annual Sustainability Day. Cervo’s location in Zermatt places it in close proximity to 38 impressive Alpine peaks and it is the only resort in town that offers guests ski-in ski-out access. Skiers and snowboarders can discover over 360 kilometers of surrounding slopes that reach heights of 3,883 meters and winter hikers and mountaineers can traverse an equally expansive network of trails. Also nearby are dog sleigh rides through idyllic snowy landscapes, ice skating, tobogganing, and cross-country skiing. Cervo’s heated ski storage area makes for a seamless transition from sanctuary to slope, and the ski-in terraces provide a laid-back yet exclusive après-ski program to round off the day. Rotating between the restaurant’s Bazaar terrace and two other terraces on resort grounds, the curated program promises afternoons filled with live music performances and DJ sets paired with perfectly crafted cocktails and backdropped by stunning views of the Matterhorn. These complement indoor offerings, which include a steam bath infused with local herbs, sound mediation and yoga sessions, and holistic treatments that combine practices like Bhutanese hot stone baths with healing massages. Social and environmental consciousness, along with a sense of unassuming, casual luxury, also permeate the resort’s three room concepts—Nomad, Alpinist, and Huntsman— which each offer a different ambiance to appeal to various

types of promadic travelers. The Nomad rooms and suite are geared toward modern explorers with a series of innovative conveniences, while the peaceful and relaxing Alpinist rooms and suites feature private bars with fresh drinks mixed daily, as well as relaxing tubs and in-room saunas in the spa suites. The exclusive Huntsman triple suite, spa suites, and room, which can be combined to create a singular Huntsman Lodge, also offer in-room spas as well as private chefs and chalet personnel on request. Near to the resort grounds is the Overlook Lodge, which is home to five four-star serviced apartments that reflect the same aesthetic and relaxed spirit as the hotel rooms and are furnished with fully equipped kitchens. Each space is tied together with a common thread of modern design details that reinterpret the traditional Alpine lifestyle, and views of the same spectacular sight: the picturesque winter wonderland that is Zermatt and the Matterhorn.

This is an excellent monthof april 2019 for increasing your psychic ability, relying on your intuition and going within to connect with your angels, spirit guides and the presence of God. Your body chemistry is likely to be more sensitive to food, environmental issues, drugs, even supplements and vitamins. On April 8th the Solar Eclipse asks you to move to your center and get ready for a whole new 18 year cycle. This one of the best times to begin something new. The universe will support you in this through October giving you the time to build and make it a success. With the Lunar Eclipse in your 8th House and your ruler favoring Pluto, a positive change is coming that will affect you financially.

The eclipse patterns are going back and forth over the relationship axis of your horoscope. The most important thing to you is your love life and partnership issues. If you are single, an important new relationship may enter your life. If you are married, the emphasis is on that relationship for the coming year. It is also a very creative influence and the opportunity to turn your creativity in to a paying situation opens up. The Lunar Eclipse on April 24th sets up an excellent six month period for financial gain.

The 2019 april horoscope predicts that in april 8th 2019 the Solar Eclipse in Aries places an emphasis on your health, work, pets and activities you do behind the scenes.
