CHRISTMAS CONCERT
A Midsummer Night's Dream Carousel Performance In Autumn 1, all year 7 students took part in a carousel performance of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Year 7 had been studying the text in lessons, focusing on characters and big ideas. In the last few weeks of the half term, each class had a scene from the play that they were responsible for rehearsing. Students performed to their peers and parents, who came in to see their hard work and dedication performing a Shakespearean text in Shakespearean language. The event showcased the tremendous amount of work that students put into making their scene a success. This was the case, in particular, of all the students involved in set design and props.
The Winter concert was a spectacular, mind blowing success which showcased all that the musically gifted students of The City Academy Hackney had to offer. To start with, we had the 'It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas' which musically was its own masterpiece: the strings, percussion and brass in perfect harmony, embodying the creator of the piece (Merideth Willson) accompanied by the angelic singing of Princess (Yr13). As we were magically taken through the first half, we watched all the students had to offer; the Yr8 scholars leaving us in awe with their rendition of Rudolf, the acappella performance by the senior choir (yrs 10,11,12 & 13) that chilled the audience, and the energetic rendition of Xmas Wrapping, which closed the first half. To put us back into the swing of things, we had 'Winter' performed by the strings leaving us with a chill and wanting more, and more is what we got. Later, we were gobsmacked by the Sixth form performance of ... which flew ,like the 2 turtle doves, into a soulful rendition of 'In a bleak mid winter', which brought a proud to tear to many an eye.

Black History Month -Author Visit: Benjamin Dean
-Black History Month Gambian cooking classes
At The City Academy Hackney, the student committee took the initiative to coordinate building decorations in honour of Black History Month. Throughout the month students participated in a variety of activities including: afro-style hair workshops, Gambian cooking classes, and an inspiring talk by Darren Thompson (a City of London lawyer and governor). The month concluded with a school-wide Black History Month performance led by Princess-Erika Manesio-Kamga, the 2023 Jack Petchey winner. She played a crucial role in organising and leading elements of the performance, with a special focus on supporting black women, encapsulated by the inspirational quote, "Support Our Sisters”.

Sixth Form Holocaust Trip -Food bank visit 2023
Fatima Tokos, a year 13 student from our school, traveled to Poland as a participant in the Auschwitz project, a charitable organisation dedicated to educating people about genocide and the Holocaust. A pivotal highlight of her trip was the visit to the town of Oswiecim, home to the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp, along with two distinct concentration camps within Auschwitz. Reflecting on the experience, Fatima Tokos shared, "Despite the intensity and emotional exhaustion of the journey, I find myself grateful and incredibly privileged. The opportunity to delve into the depths of Holocaust knowledge, share my learnings with others, and contribute to shaping a future that starkly contrasts the painful past has left an indelible impact."

-Silent Ceremony
-Sixth Form Duke Of Edinburgh Practice
On the 7th December our theatre became a cosy, intimate performance space for this year's KS4/5 production, “Almost, Maine”. A collection of heart warming stories about love and loss, set in the mythical town of Almost, Maine. The show was made up of duologues which showcased the abilities of our talented students and the whole story was held together by our wonderful narrators. Our performers excelled themselves and both cast and audience had a fantastic time.
