I have a Bachelorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s degree in History (minor in Political Sciences) from Kuwait University. I joined Zain in November 2007. My role in the organization is an account professional who handles all the operations in the Small Business segment as part of the Corporate Sales Department. Being part of the Zain family: Zain is an outstanding telecom company that has created a very friendly environment for all its employees. More importantly, Zain has done an outstanding job in creating a sense of belonging for all of its employees. Such an atmosphere encourages self-improvement and creativity, and also boosts the teamwork spirit. We always work as a family. Our organization applies an open door policy which means that our managersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; doors are always open whenever we need them. Our strong sense of values is one of the main drivers of employee pride at Zain. These values are present in our day-to-day work; they are represented in the commitment we have to working ethically and with integrity. In our organization, tasks are delegated to agents with the aim to develop their personal skills. For example, in the course of my work at Zain, my writing and speaking skills in English have improved tremendously. Zain provided me with opportunities to enhance my knowledge and skills through necessary (and sometimes intensive) training. The manager I work with closely always encourages me to develop my skills even further. I like the way Zain gives great opportunities and challenges to all employees.

In a nutshell, being part of one of the fastest growing telecommunications companies in the world has given me many opportunities. Working at Zain has helped me strengthen my personal skills. It has opened up new vistas for personal growth and learning. Being part of Zain has helped me develop my skills through hands-on experience and training. Zain management are mostly Kuwaiti nationals who joined the organization at junior levels and developed throughout the years gradually climbing the corporate ladder to join the leadership ranks. Zain has taught me a lot. However, one of the most memorable lessons for me is that when we join hands we make the impossible possible. For me, some of the most important things at Zain are the organizationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s focus on providing the best customer care and the highest quality services. I believe that success doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t come by chance. It comes with the power of will, dreams and a strong vision. If I have to sky dive this month I will probably consider February a write-off because just the thought of freefalling high above the ground terrifies me.

What is Life Coaching? No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. ---Albert Einstein Dear readers, It is so nice to connect with you once again during the month of January. This is the beginning of the year and a new start to achieve the life you want and dream of. There is no reason why you cannot accomplish what you put your mind to if you know how to approach the issue at hand. As a life coach, I meet many who have reached a point where they feel burned out from trying to adjust a situation and not get anywhere. I have heard many times, I tried to create a happier more loving marriage and ended up making it worse! My dear readers, having a problem is very similar to a person driving a used car on a slippery dark tunnel. You cannot see clearly, you are slipping and sliding, and your car isn’t in the best shape ever, so basically, it’s a tough situation. To find your way out of the tunnel is even more difficult if all you see is a wall in front of you and no exit. Albert Einstein understood the importance of an outsider’s perspective to assist people in overcoming certain challenges. If you were to choose an outsider to assist you in your current challenge, who better than a life coach who is both experienced in this area and confidential to tell you to turn left to find an exit? Some of you may be asking, what exactly is life coaching? What does it entail? Life coaching helps you look at where you are now, and where you’d like to be, then helps you bridge the gap. The purpose of the coaching is to help individuals move forward in whatever way they want. It is very different from consulting, mentoring, advice, therapy, or counseling. Although it may seem similar to therapy, life coaching differs in that the focus is more on the present and future rather than finding a cure for the past. Life coaching is more focused on goals and behaviors and works on raising a person’s awareness and encourages individuals to take responsibility for their life. A life coach is basically your guide, teacher, friend, and your mirror to observe the realities of your life.

For those of you who desire additional success and happiness, a life coach can help clarify your current situation and allow a better understanding of people and relationships. Even for those of who have completed university and higher education, life coaching is vital to possess a well rounded personality and addresses issues such as emotional intelligence, marital relationships and other similar areas which are not taught as a part of the basic educational curriculum. At school, we may have been taught that H2O is the chemical formula for water but a formal education on how to talk to our inlaws or spouses, how to ask for a raise or start and maintain a business was never taught in schools but is vital for our success in life. As a process, coaching is very special. Coaching is a tailor made system based on the needs of the person being coached, their personality, their goals, and their current situation. Unlike a self help book or a training course, life coaching is designed around the client and is 100% personalized and private. There is no discomfort and the client is totally free to open up and deal with the situation in a safe zone. It is truly a transformational process.

‫ما هو التدريب على الحياة؟‬ ‫ألبرت آينشتين يقول‪( :‬إن الذي لديه مشكلة ال يمكنه حلها بنفسه)‪.‬‬ ‫أعزائي القراء‬ ‫يسعدين أن ألتقي معكم يف بداية عام ‪ 2013‬وأنتم بصحة وسعاد]‪ ،‬وأرجو أن تعتربوا هذا الوقت‬ ‫بداية لتحقيق آمالكم التي ترغبون بها‪ ،‬فإنه من املمكن الوصول ألهدافكم عن طريق حماولة‬ ‫تغيري احللول السابقة‪.‬‬ ‫بحكم طبيعة عملي مدربة للحياة فإنني سمعت الكثري من األزواج بأنهم حاولوا مرات عديدة‬ ‫لتصحيح أوضاعهم الزوجية إال أن النتيجة جاءت أكرث سلبا‪ ،‬فهناك من وصل اىل مرحلة يف‬ ‫حياته ال ميكنه تصحيح واقعه املرير‪ ،‬أنا أشبه الشخص الواقع مبشكلة ما كأنه يقود مركبة‬ ‫قدمية يف نفق مظلم وزلق وهو ال يرى أمامه إال سد‪ ،‬فمن اإلستحالة اخلروج من النفق دون‬ ‫مساعدة من اآلخرين‪ .‬لقد أدرك الربت آينشتني ضرورة احلاجة إىل املساعدة حلل املشكلة‬ ‫من قبل شخص خارجها الذي يفضل أن يكون مدرب للحياة متخصص مبساعدة اآلخرين‬ ‫للوصول إىل تطلعاتهم و آمالهم‪.‬‬

‫التدريب على احلياة‪:‬‬

‫بالنسبة للذين ليس لديهم خربة بهذا املصطلح فإن مهنة التدريب على احلياة هي وظيفة‬ ‫تنظر و حتلل كال من الوضع احلايل و كذلك الهدف الذي يراد حتقيقه يف املستقبل‪ ،‬ثم تساعد‬ ‫على الربط ما بينهما‪ .‬مهنة التدريب على احلياة تختلف كليا عن مهنة الطبيب النفسي‬ ‫الذي يحلل املاضي و يعالج املرضى‪ .‬بينما وظيفة التدريب على احلياة ترتكز على األهداف‬ ‫و التصرفات و ترفع من مستوى الوعي بالنسبة للوضع احلايل و تشجع على أخذ زمام األمور‪،‬‬ ‫كما أنها تساعد على التقدم والتطور يف احلياة‪ .‬وميكننا تعريف مدرب احلياة على أنه خليط‬ ‫رائع يتضمن صفات كل من القائد واملعلم والصديق الويف واملرآة الصافية‪ ،‬إذ بواسطته‬ ‫ميكن رؤية الواقع احلقيقي لألمور‪ ،‬من خالل مدرب احلياة ميكنكم حتقيق األهداف اخملتلفة‬ ‫التي تأملون بها مثل تغيري العمل‪ ،‬وحتسني العالقات اإلجتماعية بني األزواج واألهل والزمالء‪،‬‬ ‫وتطوير املشاريع‪ ،‬والتعامل مع التوتر‪ ،‬وحتسني الصحة‪ ،‬ومعرفة الشخصيات‪ ،‬وإدارة الوقت‪،‬‬ ‫وتنفيذ األهداف‪ ،‬وغريه الكثري من األمور‪.‬‬ ‫مدرب احلياة اليومية يستعني به الناس ممن لديهم تصور فكري آلمالهم وأحالمهم‪،‬‬ ‫ولكنهم يعجزون عن حتقيقها بأنفسهم دون مساعدة األخرين‪ .‬وهم يتميزون بصفات تتعلق‬ ‫بالطموح والرغبة يف التغيري والتطور‪ ،‬والعزمية على حتدي العوائق التي يواجهونها حاليا أو‬ ‫يتوقعون أن تعرتض طريقهم وحتد من جناحهم يف املستقبل‪ .‬أي مبعنى آخر‪ ،‬هذه الفئات‬ ‫من الناس لديها إرادة على تغيري وتطوير أوضاعها احلالية‪ ،‬وتلجأ إىل مدرببني للحياة يف هذا‬ ‫اجملال للمساعدة يف حتقيق رغباتها‪.‬‬ ‫حتما بأن الذين يستعينون مبدرب احلياة سيدركون بأن هناك الكثري من اخليارات واحللول‬ ‫ملشاكلهم التي يواجهونها ويعانون منها‪ ،‬وكذلك سيحققون النجاح الذي يرغبون به يف‬ ‫حياتهم اليومية وسيتولد لديهم شعور بالسعادة والرضا وسيتمكنون من التعايش السلمي‬ ‫مع بعض األوضاع الصعبة التي ال يوجد لها حل سريع يف الوقت احلايل‪.‬‬ ‫إن األشخاص الذين يستعينون مبدرب احلياة سيكونون قادرين على حتديد الصعوبات التي‬ ‫يواجهونها وسيصفونها بدقة ويحددون مظاهرها‪ ،‬مما يكسبهم مهارات جديدة متيزهم‬ ‫يف التعامل مع كل من الرجال والنساء يف شتى أمور حياتهم سواء كانوا مع أفراد األسرة أو‬ ‫غريهم من أفراد اجملتمع‪.‬‬ ‫هذه القدرات واملهارات املكتسبة ستفتح األبواب للمستعينني مبدرب احلياة و ذلك‬ ‫لإلنطالق نحو عامل جديد من التغيري والتطوير‪ .‬وهذا بدوره سوف ينعكس باإليجاب على احلياة‬ ‫اليومية لهم مما يؤدي إىل تقليل التوتر اليومي لديهم‪ ،‬وسيصبح من السهل عليهم معرفة‬ ‫كيفية التوافق مع اآلخرين‪ .‬وعند هذه املرحلة سيتمكنون من السيطرة على أفكارهم‬

‫وانفعاالتهم وتعامالتهم مع األزواج واألهل واألصدقاء وغريهم‪ ،‬وهذا له دور كبري إىل إتقان‬ ‫مهارة التعامل والتواصل الفعال وأساليب تقليل االحتكاك والصراع واملشاحنة بني بعضهم‬ ‫البعض‪ ،‬وبالتايل سيبتكرون طرق جديده لتطويرعالقاتهم اإلجتماعية‪ ،‬كما أنهم سيعرفون‬ ‫بأنهم ليسوا الوحيدين الذين لديهم مشاكل وحتديات يف حياتهم و عليهم مواجهتها‪.‬‬ ‫ويجب توضيح أمر جدير بالذكر وهو كذلك يف غاية األهمية أن املناهج الدراسية واحملاضرات‬ ‫وورش العمل اخلاصة بتنمية العالقات اإلجتماعية ال تكفي وحدها إلكتساب مهارات التواصل‬ ‫الفعال والتمرس بها‪ ،‬إذ أن كل حالة تستدعي إىل أخذ تدريبات شخصية مفصلة ومربجمة‬ ‫حسب نوعها من مدرب احلياة وتتميز باخلصوصية والسرية التامة‪.‬‬ ‫لقد آن األوان الستثمار طاقاتنا وجهودنا للخروج من أزماتنا اليومية‪ ،‬وحتقيق آمالنا‪ ،‬والنجاح‬ ‫يف أعمالنا والشعور بالسعادة والرضى‪ ،‬فهناك فن وتكتيك للتعامل والتواصل بني الناس‪.‬‬ ‫إن دور مدرب احلياة ال غنى عنه خارج جدران املدرسة و اجلامعة يف تطوير الفكر واكتساب‬ ‫املهارات‪.‬‬ ‫أعزائي القراء‪ ،‬أنا سعيدة جدا إلهدائي لكم هذه املعلومات وأمتنى أن تتواصلوا معي‬ ‫بخصوص جتاربكم الشخصية و أسئلتكم حول هذا املوضوع و ذلك من خالل شبكات التواصل‬ ‫اإلجتماعي‪.‬‬

Wanna Change the World But Don’t Know How?

ne of my favorite thinkers is the Austrian psychiatrist Viktor Frankl who says in one of his quotes ‘Ever more people today have the means to live, but no meaning to live for.’ So what’s the meaning of your life? Are you living an empty life where you go to work by day and spend your money by night on regular things? Well, if yes then we’re friends. Every child has once dreamed of changing the world. Each individual has a deep call, a message to be delivered, a mission to be fulfilled, a talent to be expressed, a joy to be shared, and an effect to be printed in the memory of humanity. Usually this inner call is suppressed because it’s considered ideal. It’s like a big puzzle where each one of us is a valuable piece, but, you know, we’ve lost ourselves in this giant puzzle and forgot our real roles. We don’t know anymore why we’re here and how we may live a meaningful life. Here are some suggestions that help discovering ourselves and recreating our lives: Go through experiences. Try new things. Make a painting. Join a reading group. Read a book in Biology. Learn Photoshop. Don’t just sit there. You never know what you love until you experience it. Write down your dreams, and move ant-steps towards them. Don’t be afraid to have crazy visions. It’s not important to achieve the whole vision but it’s very important to live your dream and walk towards it. You dream of being a writer? Start an online blog. You dream of a big company? Start small. Sell things to your friends. You dream of being a filmmaker? Start on YouTube. First steps require willingness and courage. Find similar people. There will come a time where you’ll find yourself alone on the track you’ve chosen. Believe me, there are people like you, you just got to find them. The internet is very useful to achieve this point. The more you get closer to activities and people that bring joy inside you, the more you become a positive change agent in our lovely planet. Go on. Start your journey.

‫أنا ربيعية‪ ،‬تخرجت من كلية العلوم اإلدارية رغم أنها مل تكن طموحي ولكنني توجهت إليها‬ ‫إلرضاء رغبة أهلي‪ .‬بعد التخرج‪ ،‬مل أمتكن من احلصول على وظيفة مناسبة ملدة ثماين سنوات‬ ‫تخصصي‪ ،‬ومنذ يوم عملي األول‬ ‫حتى توظفت مؤخرًا يف منظمة ليست لها عالقة مبجال‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫بدأت مشاكل املوظفني معي دون سبب واضح! ورغم طبعي املسامل إال أنني أشعر بكراهية‬ ‫كبرية يكنونها يل لدرجة أنني أفكر جديًا يف ترك العمل‪ .‬فبماذا تنصحني؟‬

‫تحليل نظرية الفصول‪:‬‬

‫عدم حصولك على وظيفة ملدة ثماين سنوات يف البلد التي تنتمني إليه أمر غري منطقي‪ ،‬إال‬ ‫يف حال مل تكن هناك حماوالت يومية حثيثة منك للبحث عن عمل أو يف حال كانت لديك شروط‬ ‫وظيفية ذات معايري عالية ليس من السهل استيفاؤها‪ .‬الربيعي عادة يكون قلق قبل اخلوض‬ ‫يف جتربة عمل جديدة خشية فشله يف ممارستها أو خشية العمل وسط زمالء ال يعطونه‬ ‫السكون النفسي الذي هو بحاجة إليه حتى ينجح يف عمله‪ ،‬لذلك جنده يخوض العمل اجلديد‬ ‫برهبة تُفقده متعة العمل يف الفرتة األوىل لدرجة قد جتعل من حوله يرفضون وجوده بينهم‬ ‫مقصرة‪ .‬لذا‪ ،‬ننصحك باآلتي‪:‬‬ ‫ورؤيته بعني‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫أو ًال‪ :‬حاويل إدراك سبب املشاكل التي حتصل بينك وبني املوظفني‪ ،‬فاعتقادك بأنه ليس هناك‬ ‫سيوسع فرص املشاكل يف املستقبل يف الوظائف األخرى‪ .‬بغض النظر إذا كان‬ ‫سبب واضح‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫السبب ِ‬ ‫أنت أو هم‪ ،‬هناك حتمًا سبب معني حتى وإن مل يكن منطقي‪ .‬حاويل معرفته ومعرفة‬ ‫أبعاده وأسبابه‪ ،‬ومن ثم حاويل عالجه إن أمكن‪ .‬صارحي زمالءك‪ ،‬ناقشي مسؤولك‪ ،‬أظهري‬ ‫تسعني ألن تكون جتربتك الوظيفية ذات كفاءة وأنك بحاجة إىل أن‬ ‫اهتمامًا بالعمل‪ ،‬أخربيهم أنك‬ ‫َ‬ ‫يعينوك على ذلك‪ .‬ال توجد وظيفة دون مشاكل‪ ،‬وال توجد مهنة خالية من القلق‪ ،‬واملهنة األوىل‬ ‫دائمًا مفزعة للربيعيني كاليوم الدراسي األول لطفل‬ ‫ثانيًا‪ :‬لو شعرتي بأن احملاولة األوىل غري جمدية‪ ،‬قرري ترك عملك والبحث عن وظيفة أخرى‪،‬‬ ‫ولكن يف هذه احلالة ال تطيلي فرتة اإلنتظار‪ ،‬احرصي على املثابرة يف البحث‪ ،‬وابحثي عن‬ ‫الوظيفة التي فع ًال حتلمني بالعمل فيها‪ ،‬وكلما صار لديك مقابلة وظيفية أظهري شغفك‬ ‫للعمل وحتدثي عن نقاط قوتك حتى تسهل عملية اإلميان بك وبتوظيفك‬ ‫يف حال حصولك على وظيفة أخرى‪ ،‬اجعلي اليوم األول فيها مغايرًا لليوم األول يف وظيفتك‬ ‫األوىل‪ .‬توجهي لها بحب‪ ،‬خاطبي زمالءك بحب‪ ،‬حاويل تبني العمل بعيدًا عن توقعاتك وما تودين‬ ‫أن يكون‪ ،‬حاويل التأقلم مع البيئة حتى وإن اختلفت عن توقعاتك‪ ،‬تأقلمي مع احلزم‪ ،‬مع الشدة‪،‬‬ ‫وكوين جزءًا ال يختلف عنهم‬ ‫‪.‬الربيعي ميتلك سحرًا جمي ًال يف شخصيته ميكنه من خالله كسب زمالء وأصدقاء أكرث من‬ ‫غريه‪ ،‬إال يف حال تغلب عليه فزع أضعفه أو ق ّيد عاطفته اللطيفة التي جتذب حميطه إليه‪.‬‬ ‫مارسي سحرك‪ ،‬اعريف نقاط قوتك‪ ،‬وحتمًا ستجدين نفسك يف بيئة عمل تناسبك‬

‫زمالئي يقللون من قيمة عملي وال أدري‬ ‫متى يجب أن أتخذ معهم موقفًا‬ ‫الموضوع كما ورد على لسان صاحبته‪:‬‬

‫أنا إنسانة ال أحب النفاق‪ ،‬هادئة‪ ،‬أعمل طوال اليوم وأفعل ما يطلب مني دون تقصري لكن أشعر‬ ‫بأنهم يأكلون حقي يف العمل‪ .‬أحيانًا خالل اإلجتماعات أجد زمالئي يضايقونني بالكالم ويقللون‬ ‫من قيمة عملي ويتهمونني بالبطء‪ ،‬وحني أدافع عن نفسي ينتقدونني‪ ،‬وأنا بصراحة ال أعرف‬ ‫مقصرة‪ ،‬فهم يقومون‬ ‫كيف أرد‪ .‬قد يكون معهم حق يف أنني بطيئة لكن هذا ال يعني أنني‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫بإجناز مهام عديدة يف اليوم الواحد لكن جميعها ناقصة‪ ،‬أما أنا فأنهي إجناز واحد يف اليوم‬ ‫ولكن بشكل مكتمل متامًا وبجودة عالية‪ .‬كلما أزعجوين بإتهاماتهم أقرر أن أواجههم وأدافع‬ ‫عن نفسي لكن بعد ذلك أهدأ وأنسى كل شئ وأذهب لعملي بشكل طبيعي يف اليوم التايل‬ ‫وأتعامل معهم وكأن شيئًا مل يكن! ال أعلم ماذا أفعل‪ ،‬وال أعلم متى سيأتي اليوم الذي أواجههم‬ ‫فيه وأتخذ معهم موقفًا‬

‫تحليل نظرية الفصول‪:‬‬

‫صاحبة املشكلة شتوية‪ ،‬وبطء الشتوي يف العمل ناجت عن تركيزه على جودة وصحة ما‬ ‫يفعل‪ .‬الشتوي من أكرث األشخاص الذين ميكن أن تعتمد عليه‪ ،‬وإذا ولّيته مسؤولية ال داعي‬ ‫ألن تتابعه أو تراجع ما يفعل ألنه هو نفسه ال يقبل سوى بجودة عالية من العمل وأن يكون‬ ‫وقدر برود‬ ‫كل شئ كامل‪ ،‬لكنه يحتاج وقت لفعل ذلك‪ ،‬لذا إمنحه بعض الوقت واحرتم فصله ّ‬ ‫أعصابه الذي يعد من مميزاته فذلك يساعده على إتقان العمل بد ًال من أن ينهيه على عجلة‬ ‫وال يكون على الشكل املطلوب‬ ‫إذا كنت تتعامل يف عملك مع شتوي‪ ،‬إعتمد عليه وأوكله املسؤولية الكاملة لكن أعطه الوقت‬ ‫لذلك حتى يتغلغل يف التفاصيل وينفذها على أكمل وجه‪ .‬لن يتعب بل على العكس‪ ،‬فالرتكيز‬ ‫والدقة قيمتان مغروستان يف طبعه‪ ،‬إذا إتبعهما سرتاه يف أفضل حاالته النفسية حتى لو‬ ‫قضى ساعات طويلة يف اجناز العمل‬ ‫أما إذا كنت أنت الشتوي‪ ،‬فركّ ز على النقاط الثالث التالية‪:‬‬ ‫أو ًال‪ ،‬حاول أن تتأكد دومًا من الوقت الالزم إلجناز عملك‪ .‬إسأل‪ ،‬ثم أخرب مسؤولك أنك حتتاج‬ ‫سيقدر حجم اجلهد الذي تبذله‬ ‫لوقت‪ .‬قد ميتعض يف البداية لكن عندما يرى جودة عملك‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫وتصر على أن تنجز كل شئ‬ ‫ثانيًا‪ ،‬إذا كان لديك زميل ميكنك أن توكله بجزء من العمل‪ ،‬ال ترفض‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫بنفسك‪ .‬إمنح زميلك فرصة فقد يكون أداؤه بنفس جودة أدائك وبالتايل تكون قد كسبت وقتًا‬ ‫وأنهيت عملك باجلودة املطلوبة‬ ‫ثالثًا‪ ،‬إذا أزعجك موقف من زمالئك كالذي حصل مع صاحبة هذه االستشارة‪ ،‬ال تؤجل مواجهتك‬ ‫لهم ليوم آخر فربود أعصابك ميكن أن ينسيك يف اليوم التايل حجم العصبية التي شعرت بها‬ ‫وبالتايل لن يكون رد فعلك مناسب‪ ،‬وإذا مل يكن لك رد فعل مناسب‪ ،‬سيقوم زمالئك بتكرار‬ ‫نفس املوقف الذي ضايقك ألنهم مل يروا أي فعل منك يظهر إنزعاجك‪ ،‬فبالتايل سيعتقدون‬ ‫أنك مل تأخذ كالمهم على حممل اجلد‪ ،‬وسيكون جزاءك كالم جارح منهم للمرة الثانية‬

nother year, another attempt to predict the future. It’s exciting to think that a year from now we’ll be buzzing about all new startups, fresh apps to obsess over and maybe even a new device or two we can’t imagine ever having lived without. But in the realm of digital marketing, the writing’s already on the wall. So, what are the up and coming changes you can expect to make to your marketing strategies for 2013 and ‘what’s going on’?

This will be the real deal rear of ‘Mobile 2.0’

Some folks might be sick of hearing about the ever-imminent upsurge in mobile, but I’m banking on 2013 as really, finally the year of mobile. Consumers are spending more time and more money on their mobile devices than ever before. The catch is that mobile still means too many things to too many people. Brands, publishers and consumers all need it to accomplish different things. Until we see some convergence on the objectives of these key stakeholder groups, mobile will struggle to reach its full potential. There is some promising evidence of consumer engagement on mobile, via branded content and targeted app development, and there will be more in the coming year. I’m looking forward to seeing how brands leverage location technology and social-media data to amp up their marketing, especially as mobile commerce generates more attention.

Consumers stay in the driver’s seat No matter what we accomplish in digital marketing, audiences are the reason we do it. And these days, the consumer has more control than ever.

As Dan Pappalardo wrote recently, “Disruptive messaging is not as effective – or tolerated – as it once was. So instead of asserting a one-way brand message, marketers are now creating relevant experiences to organically align brands with consumers. These experiences themselves are becoming brand platforms.” In 2013, we have to put the consumer first, which means engagement on their number-one (probably mobile) device, contextual relevance and need anticipation. Chances are you’ve got the data; now use it.

Social media marketing will (finally) grow up Our hot ‘n heavy social media obsession hasn’t cooled even a little, but marketers have yet to catch up.

Twitter and Pinterest still serve high demand, and even though Facebook is slowing a bit, the megasite still pulls in content by the petabyte. Combine the incredibly valuable trove of data these sites have amassed with the sustained brand interest we’re witnessing in data-driven advertising, and you’ve got the potential for some serious social marketing in 2013. The challenge will be for these sites to act smartly and display sensitivity, to manage users’ comfort level with data security and third-party relationships. As long as they keep taking baby steps, they’ll find the revenue they need to grow, as they explore new ways to work with brands and develop integrated social media experiences.

e have come to an age where we see lot of ladies trying their hand at enhancing their entrepreneurial skills. Some of the most successful businesses are the small scale ones. If we turn & observe our surrounding we can come across many Beauty Centre’s, with the distinction that they are now specialized centre’s like Nail Bars or Blow Dry bars. A Beauty Centre is a specialized place where ladies go to appear & feel beautiful and hence it’s expected that a Beauty Centre should be exquisite in itself. A successful Beauty Centre is one that not only has a pleasant & competent staff but also an environment that’s welcoming & assuring the clients that the concept “BEAUTY” is something that they are familiar & comfortable with. Here are some tips in designing your own Salon.

1. Application of Theme: If a theme is applied, it should be one that leaves a positive & memorable image in the memory of the Client. While applying theme remember to be consistent with the accessories & decorations that are added on.

2. Color Scheme: While selecting the scheme pick an appropriate color scheme, up to a maximum of three colors. Choose colors that are neither too bold nor too dull. Pick out pleasant colors that won›t overpower the entire interior, but rather complement it subtly. Another parameter to be observed is to maintain the color scheme throughout the Saloon even for the furniture, equipments, frames, wall paints etc. for instance a sofa in the reception could be a brown color with pink puffs if the color scheme is pink & brown.

3. Waiting Area: Waiting areas are often crowded since the Salon patrons spend a lot of time waiting for their turn in the waiting area & often bring friends along for company. Such a trend would require ample seating facility which is not always feasible, in such scenarios optimal usage of space by using functional furniture can be applied. 4. Space Allocation: Application of physical barrier in a large room is one way of separating the sections or having separate rooms for each activity, depending on the availability of space. Inorder to be professional & organized it’s advisable to have designated areas for separate services.

5. Maneuver the space to make it look spacious by using wide curtains & light paints to give openness to the room. 6. Electrical Sockets: It’s expected that there would be heavy dependence on electrical appliances in a salon. Ensure that the appliances are connected to their dedicated sockets at all times, rather than making a mess with tangled wires all over the place & once the task is completed its put back into its respective drawers. This way the salon will always be organized, neat and clean.

7. Entertainment unit: A saloon has become a place that not only makes you glamorous but also relaxes your nerves. Having TV with network can cater to broader range of Clientele.

11. Creating the Perfect Ambience: An ambience can make the differ-

ence. The first glimpse or the first walkthrough can make the difference. It’s not just the WOW factor but also how organized the space looks that can convince a customer. Ensuring a regular flow of magazines & coffee table books, continuous air conditioning & a subtle fragrance (like softly fragranced potpourri or scented candles) in the air can do wonders. Keeping fresh flowers or indoor potted plants also add to the allure of the space. Application of mirrors can make the interior look inviting and glamorous.

Perfect 10, designed in year 2010 is a NAIL BAR located at Al Tijaria Mall, Kuwait, compromising of 4 pedicure stations, 2 manicure stations, drink bar and a reception, this exclusive high end nail bar aims to draw the attention of the upper income clients to provide them with an unforgetful holistic sensory experience. The design theme was based on “dynamism & revitalizing experience’. The irregular wood panels harmonized the usage of hard & cold cemented floor which complements the saloons charms. Perfect Ten is a perfect example of innovative & contemporary fusion like the custom made lighting & the staggered mirrors, the lighting exploited the warmth & while the mirrors manipulated the spaciousness of the saloon. To contain the warm & cool sensation of the ambience the designer carved out the aura by application of epoxy concrete floor & suede upholstered wall panels. The designer had to play around with indirect lighting to reverse the effect of heaviness caused by fixed furniture. The light created warmth which gave the space a feel of lightness & and subtleness. On the whole, Perfect 10’s design is a synthesis of art & technology that leaves the client as mesmerized as with the services received at the Spa.

‫فن االضاءة وعالقته باألسقفوالتكييف املركزي‬ ‫ان لإلضاءة فن وابتكار من خالل توزيع االضاءة وأختيار املكان املناسب ودرجة سطوع االضاءة يف أماكن دونأخرى ومزج االضاءة اخملفية لها رونق خاص يف املنزل وقبل ان نتحدث‬ ‫عن فن االضاءة من الصعب ان نستثني التكييف املركزي وهنانرى اكتمال املثلث املثايل الذي ال يخلو من كل بيت ( اسقف ‪-‬اضاءة ‪ -‬تكييف مركزي ) بالنسبة يل الكويت واخلليج العربي‬ ‫بشكل خاص وذلك يل ظروف املناخ يف دول اخلليج العربي التكييف املركزي هو الضلع الثالث املكمل للمثلث املثايل يل كل بيت‬ ‫يجب فصل توزيع االضاءة للمنزل وعدم شملها بطريقة موحدة حددها ببساطة من خالل استخدامك للغرف و حاجتها مثال غرفة النوم يغلب عليها التوزيع البسيط مع مزج االضاءة‬ ‫اخملفية والظاهرة معا ومتتع بفصل االضاءة الظاهرة واعتمد اخملفية من باب التغيري أو العكس هنا تكون غرفة النوم لها طابعها اخلافت اخلاص ويف املمرات اعتمد االضاءة‬ ‫املتوسطة وابتعد عن الساطعةألنها مزعجة يف األماكن الضيقة وميكن استخدام االضاءة اخملفية يف املمرات بطريقة ذكية وفن جميل من خالل استغالل سطوع الضوء وله‬ ‫طرق وأشكال عديدة أما يف القاعات الكبرية والصاالت املفتوحة يتطلب االلتزام بإضاءة معتدلة السطوع واستغالل املساحات الكبرية باإلضاءة اخملفية مع ضوء أخف بدرجة‬ ‫بسيطة يل غرفة الطعام واستخدام إضاءة احلائط الذي يعادل الضوء بلمسة فنية واإلضاءة معتدلة السطوع متوازية التوزيع مطلوبة يل غرفة املكتب وغرفة املالبس وغرفة اللعب‬ ‫لألطفال واملطابخ وغرفة غسيل املالبس‬ ‫عندما تتعامل مع منزلك بأنه قطعة فنية غالية ستكون انت املبدع والعقل املدبر لهذه القطعة الفنية ستبهرك النتيجة بعد إعطاء كل ركن وكل جزئيه وكل زاوية حقها ومن اهم‬ ‫املكمالت اجلمالية عندما تهتم بأدق التفاصيل وتتعامل معها علي أنها أساسية وليس مكملة منها فن االضاءة غالبا يكون أختيار االضاءة علي أساس النمط املعتاد دون االخذ‬ ‫باالعتبار بأن يل كل ركن وكل جزء يف املنزل له اضاءته اخلاصة بالتوزيع املناسب او يف بعض األحيان نغفل عن االضاءة و نكتشف أخطائنا باآلخر حينها يصعب التعديل فإذا كنت تعيد‬ ‫ترميم وجتديد منزلك أو ركن منه يجب ان تخطط لياألسقف وهذا ما حتدثنا عنه يف العدد السابق انه عنصر مهم يف التغري اجلذري للمنزل ملن يرغب بالتغري اجلذري والتجديد وان كنت‬ ‫من أصحاب الفلل اجلديدة أو من هم يسعون ايل التغري والتجديد والرتميم يجب ان تربطاألسقف واإلضاءة والتكيف املركزي مع بعض وذلك من خالل تعاون الشركة املنفذة لالسقف‬ ‫وهي لها الدور بتوزيع االضاءة وشركة التكييف املركزي‬

I am in love with Becarre’s furniture and home accessories. These beautiful pieces designed by the creative Hussam AlResheed will captivate you from the first sight. Just looking at them, you will feel that their beauty is not just from the exterior; these pieces have inner beauty. I mean that the ideas behind these beautiful designs are absolutely beautiful, and the execution of these lovely ideas is just as beautiful. I realize that I haven’t used the word ‘beautiful’ this much repeatedly, but I can’t find other words to describe this furniture. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I tell you that it’s even magical! The designs are a balanced blend of classic and modern, traditional and avant-garde. The pieces have a Kuwaiti spirit, a traditional essence that I absolutely love. Every corner I walked into made me gasp with awe. I lost count of how many times I have said “Oh my God, this is amazing!” when I was there. Becarre sells a variety of items, from big pieces of furniture to small tiny trinkets and accessories, all crafted with the same spirit of creativity, innovation and splendor. I loved the way everyday traditional Kuwaiti items were used in decoration, like small Kuwaiti coins decorating a candle holder, or tiny teaspoons decorating the spine of a lamp, or old pot covers lined horizontally on a wall. Everything is just well-thought and greatly produced. I would love to see Becarre go worldwide. More than anything, I would love to see Becarre designing the interior of a hotel. This beautiful blend of heritage and modernity is just beautiful. I enjoyed my visit there, and I am certain so would you. They are located in Salmiya, Salem Al-Mubarak Street, next to the BHS store but on the 2nd floor.

BAB Nimnim

An Architectural Escapade

We love Jassim Al-Saddah. We love the quirky designs of t-shirts he makes. They are original, beautiful and funny. We love the way he incorporates the unique colloquial Kuwaiti diction in these designs, and we absolutely love his work in architecture. Take a look at the beautiful Al-Saddah Mosque in Abdullah Al-Salem, which he refurbished. Blending heritage and modernity, practicality and luxury, Jassim Al-Saddah’s masterpiece is Kuwaiti project that makes us proud. We absolutely love it. To get to know the talented man behind the mosque and the quirky Al-Labeeb t-shirts, which are now sold in Harvey Nichols, we had a chitchat with Jassim about his work.

Q: Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

A: I am a graduate of architecture from the (AA) Architectural Association School of Architecture, London. I graduated summer of 2008 and moved back to Kuwait 2009 after the economic downfall. I started up (MiMa) Mirzam Manifesto with my good friend Anas Alomaim towards the end of 2009 and did our first exhibition in Boutique 4. The exhibition was named ‘Ateej il-Soof wila ydeed libreesim’ which could roughly translate to ‘Old wool or new silk threads.’ This was a quirky visual translation of old Kuwaiti words and proverbs. I am also the creative director and owner of bab.nimnim design studio which I established back in late 2010, and is my main daily job.

Q: What is bab.nimnim and what services does it offer?

A: BNN is a design studio which mainly serves for architectural services be it exterior or interior. We like to concentrate on developing concepts for each project we receive and dedicate a specified time to cater to its needs fully, and to end up with something that the client is happy with as much as we are glad to present it to them. We start off from concept all the way to execution and delivering the project into reality. This of course isn’t fully my work alone, I am only part of a dedicated team comprising of architects and designers from different backgrounds. They have been great to work with and managed to produce wonderful projects together that we are very proud of.

Q: You worked on renovating al-Saddah mosque, and from the pictures that I found you managed to incorporate many elements together, but how difficult was combining luxury with the element of islamic/arabic heritage?

A: The Alsaddah mosque was a project I inherited when I first moved back to Kuwait. It isn’t a renovation project per say, but more rather an architectural re-design to the main body of the design that was brought in from the Awqaf Ministry. I came into the project when the concrete structure was already erected and applied a re-design to it in order to have a continuous feel from exterior to interior from the macro to the micro using one font and one pattern that is proliferated on all its surfaces. This sense of unity confirms the concept that a mosque is a place only for Allah representing his oneness and holiness. The overall feel is luxurious because it focuses on very simple factors of the elements of the mosque but designed specifically for its basic functions. This is embraced by the whole feeling of serenity that is felt within the space making it a calm and homogeneous atmosphere with no visual pollution of different overlaid patterns and unrelated Quranic quotes.

Q: Mirzam Manifesto -- is that still an ongoing project? If yes, could you please tell me a little bit about it?

A: Mirzam Manifesto is an ongoing project where we write up briefs that have a particular subject were interested in, then transform it into an exhibition. As I mentioned before I started it off with Anas and have continued with it even though he is away doing his PHD in architecture in UCLA. It mainly starts with the ‘designed’ brief and may end up as a collaboration with someone that is invited to the execution of it. Its main attention is to bring art to the public and try to connect different disciplines with each other. This will hopefully be more apparent in future exhibitions.

Q: We’d like to know a little bit about the tees you design. We saw several quirky ones where you actually take little gems from pop culture/ heritage. A: I am an artist who contributes my designs to LocalTees and they produce and manage the whole campaigning of the designs to be bought online in their store. They have recently expanded to share the love of my quirky designs with Harvey Nichols and several stores around the region.

Q: How do you select what goes on the tees?

A: If you realized most of what is printed on the t-shirts is Kuwaiti hand gestures and hence I called the whole collection as ‘Al-Labeeb’ from the proverb ‘Al-Labeeb min ileshara yafham’ - ‘He who is smart understands gestures’. It started off with ‘malat’ and ‘wikhizyah’ because I always found these expression to be quite unique and funny. So I tried to share that part of my childhood and background via a series of directional graphics of how to perform these hand gestures in english, making them more relatable to any foreigner.

Great Achievements For Kuwaiti Youth

OYAC is a non-profit youth empowerment organization

that was established in 2002. It aims to provide unique opportunities to further develop their characters and nurture their talents and abilities with a goal of giving birth to a generation of highly effective young leaders. In the past 10 years LOYAC was able to accommodate and benefit approximately 2000 young students a year and managed to extend the LOYAC model outside the borders of Kuwait to establish chapters in Jordan (2008) and Lebanon (2009). LOYAC initiated its first activity with the “Summer Program” that contributed greatly by providing work opportunities for the youth. It also helped lay down the ground work early for students in terms of entering the work force in the private sector in a systematic manner. Thus LOYAC became the bridge to enable the youth to have a larger influence on their future choices as well as introducing the Kuwaiti youth population to the significance of the service sector. Moreover within the “Summer Program” mandatory number of community service and volunteering hours was introduced, which still runs regularly starting March of each year. From that came to rise specific programs targeted towards volunteering such as “Service is my Joy.” This program helped to raise awareness around the importance of community service and reinforce the humanitarian sense in the youth population. This helped further develop their character by discovering themselves through the service of others. Spreading the image of a youth population ready to serve their country and others for no return helped instill the values of volunteering in the Kuwaiti community. Such programs revolve around teaching the youth to work together for a good cause and are available for kids from the age of 5 up to the age of 28 years old. These activitiesrun in cooperation with local community centers. As an organization LOYAC established unique internship opportunities at many world-renowned establishments and companies. Such opportunities were given at an international level, raising the bar and allowing the youth to progress further beyond their own environment. This led a new level of volunteering where now volunteer programs are available internationally in Kenya, India, Lebanon, and Jordan. The role played by LOYAC did not end there. In the past 10 years it had an important cultural role in reviving the theatrical scene in Kuwait. As an organization focusing on the youth it felt a responsibility towards ensuring that it contributed to developing the cultural aspect in the young community and therefore the LOYAC Academy of Performing Arts was born. It succeeded in producing multiple theatrical plays, unraveling the hidden talents and breaking the common fear of being on stage to build self-confidence. When it comes to talents there are many outlets, and one important outlet is sports. This is why LOYAC’s Youth Council did not neglect this aspect and saw to it by establishing the AC Milan Soccer School. The soccer school trains kids of different age groups up to the age of 17 and works directly with the AC Milan club by providing Italian coaches in the aim to reinforce and improve the sport movement in Kuwait. Recently, this year, LOYAC has made one its highest achievements since it was selected to be one of the 15 most successful practices in the world that was published in the book “Learning A Living”. LOYAC was awarded this honorable status during the Qatar Foundation’s WISE Conference in Doha where LOYAC was recognized for its innovative approach in dealing youth employability. LOYAC is also recognized as a Best practice by UN Habitat and Dubai Municipality.

Weight loss surgery:

For Some a New Trend, But For One a New Year’s Resolution

o you or someone you know struggle to lose weight? Have you repeatedly tried to lose weight with little success? As I was growing up, such topics were rarely discussed in everyday conversation. Nowadays, weight disorders are at the forefront of our society. Here in Kuwait, statistics show that you are more likely to encounter an overweight or obese individual than someone who is within his or her normal weight range. According to a report presented by the CNN Broadcasting Network in its Inside the Middle East segment back in November 2012, nearly 75% of males and 80% of females in Kuwait over the age of 15 are overweight or obese.

These startling figures have caused the peoples of this Gulf region to launch various campaigns geared towards weight regulation. This has in turn formed a new weight loss trend in Kuwait, as reported in the Kuwait Times last October. This trend has seen a rise in demand for gastric sleeve surgery. This minimally invasive procedure is a form of bariatric or weight loss surgery. During this procedure the major curve of the stomach is isolated and 75% of the stomach is removed, leaving a sleeve-like structure. Here in Kuwait, the demand for gastric sleeve surgery is extraordinary. State-owned hospitals have surgery waiting lists that extend beyond 2016. In comparison, the waiting lists may be shorter for private clinics, but costly hospital rates inhibit many would-be patients that live on a budget. So for many in this country the main options are again exercise and diet. But, if these options are not sufficient, is there another solution? For one determined person there was a solution and a new beginning. In order to protect her privacy, we shall call her Ms. S. Ms. S is a dear friend of my family. I have pictured here to the right in the pair of photos that show her before and after she was able to stabilize her weight. Her story is unique in that she literally fought to regulate her weight since childhood by combining various diet and exercise routines, and then ultimately she added surgical intervention as a last resort. The fact that she chose bariatric surgery should not be the focus. I am not writing to support or condemn this choice, but instead I would like you to understand the struggle that led to this procedure. Ms. S’s only option was to have the surgery in her native country of Syria during the present conflict in this past summer. It was her only option to have this costly procedure carried out in a reasonable timeframe. Many,

including myself, initially questioned her judgment. However, my questioning ceased when I spoke with her and she described to me her need to take this chance. I recognized that this was important because weight loss was not easy for her, as she is one of those persons whose metabolism is not naturally capable of burning calories with minimal effort. Ms. S was also tired of hearing comments like: “Get a better diet! You should exercise more! You know what your problem is…it’s discipline!”; she had been trying to regulate her weight for over 20 years and desperately needed to change her situation and lifestyle. Against all odds, Ms. S carefully thought out her plan, and executed it perfectly. It has now been 6 months since her procedure and she is doing fine. Actually, she is doing quite well. She has had no post surgery complications, and has stuck to a rigorous exercise and diet regimen. Pardon the cliché, but she is in fact a new person. As you read this article, it may cross your mind that Ms. S opted for a quick solution or an easy way out by having weight loss surgery, but this procedure demands significant lifestyle changes. It was her aim to redefine herself for the coming year, and again I must say that she has successfully done so, through a rigorous diet and exercise plan, and unwavering self-discipline following bariatric surgery. I believe that there is a valuable lesson to be learnt from Ms. S’s story. Regardless of the path you take towards your weight loss goal, one must be willing to integrate proper diet and exercise into their daily routines. Weight loss surgery is an option, but it is controversial. Do not believe that it is a seamless process, because there is always the chance that health complications may arise from any form of surgery. Furthermore, it is necessary to recognize that such procedures require lifestyle changes that must be observed in order for an individual to reap its full benefit. In sum, if you or someone you know is struggling with weight loss, please contact your healthcare provider and discuss your options in detail so that you can make a truly informed decision that you will be willing to and capable of living with thereafter. ‫أناين؟ يبه أنا أناين!‬

‫أخربتني صديقة مرة أن والدها أناين! اسرتسلت بأن التدخني يجعله أناين ال يفكر بأي شيء آخر عندما يريد التدخني‪ ،‬كما أنها‬ ‫اتهمته أنه السبب بأن إخوانها مدخنني وأن شرطها للزواج هو أن ال يكون زوج املستقبل مدخن!‬

‫مادري؟ حقيقة ال أعلم! و على رغم ثقتي الكبرية بالقدرة العجيبة‬ ‫لسحر الطفولة ال أنكر أن البعض قد يفشل باستيعابها‪ .‬قد‬ ‫يعطل مفعولها اإلعتقاد بأنه قادر على التوقف متى شاء أو‬ ‫تقليله حلجم املشكة فرمبا اعتقد أن عدم تدخينه أمام أطفاله‬ ‫يحميهم من أخطارها‪ ،‬التي تتعدي خطورته الصحية لتاخذ أبعادًا‬ ‫نفسية أيضًا‪.‬‬

‫أن تدخن هذا شأنك‪ ،‬و لكن بعيدًا عن أطفايل!‬

‫‪My grandmother used to tell me many stories about how life was different‬‬ ‫‪in the past, especially when it came to folk remedies with herbs. At first I‬‬ ‫‪didn›t take what she said seriously, but after some time, my interest was‬‬ ‫‪piqued. I started to frequent the herbal products store, which we call in‬‬ ‫‪Arabic ‹al-Attar›. These stores are in every co-op, in almost every residential‬‬ ‫‪area in Kuwait, and they sell a number of herbs, herbal products and natural‬‬ ‫‪remedies including oils and stones among other things.‬‬ ‫‪You will be amazed when you see the number of products available, and you‬‬ ‫‪will be amazed even more when you find that for each one of them there‬‬ ‫‪is more than one use. You can mix some herbs together and you will have‬‬ ‫‪a natural remedy for an ailment, but you have to be careful; not all herbs‬‬ ‫‪should be mixed together. Some will have a negative impact on your health.‬‬ ‫‪One of these products is myrrh. It›s a natural antibiotic that helps the‬‬ ‫‪body combat many diseases and ailments, and it also helps in firming the‬‬ ‫‪skin. One way to use this is by soaking it in water for some hours and then‬‬ ‫‪drinking it, or rubbing it on the skin or inhaling the smell. You can grind it‬‬ ‫‪and boil it in water and drink it like tea. There are many other things you can‬‬ ‫‪do with it, but you should never mix it with oil.‬‬ ‫‪Another remedy found in these shops is flax seed. These seeds can be‬‬ ‫‪ground and boiled in water, or ground and sprinkled on top of salads, or‬‬ ‫‪ground and eaten in small quantities. It›s best to grind them and consume‬‬ ‫‪them right after grinding; if you wait, they will lose their quality. They help‬‬ ‫‪in losing weight, getting rid of gas in the stomach and fighting cholesterol.‬‬ ‫‪They contain omega 3, which is essential for good health.‬‬ ‫‪Another product that you can find is almond oil. This fantastic oil is the‬‬ ‫‪reason behind silky smooth hair, smooth skin with no stretch marks and it‬‬ ‫‪helps in healing blisters. Drinking it also calms your digestive system when‬‬ ‫‪it›s irritated. If you ask a pharmacist he will tell you that most of the medicines‬‬ ‫‪sold there are derived from herbs. Your smile expresses happiness, success, warmth, and sensuality. A smile is influenced by the position, shape and color of teeth. It is also influenced by the appearance of gums. Appearance of gums is an essential part of a beautiful smile. Having natural pink colored gums is very important for a beautiful smile. Smile looks beautiful if one has beautiful teeth with natural looking pink gums. But that is not always possible. Generally the gums color is same as the skin color. Dark gums are mostly seen in dark skinned people. The gum discoloration may be present in patches. The extent of gum discoloration and the intensity is different for different individuals. Dark pigmented gums donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t mean that they are unhealthy and are not an indication of a disease.

What are the causes of dark gums?

Melanin Hyper pigmentation or dark gums are prevalent in certain individuals who have darker complexions. It is usually the result of melanine build up in the gum tissue.

Treatment of dark gums:

Gum depigmentation also known as gum whitening is a procedure used in cosmetic dentistry to remove dark spots or patches on the gums. It is a simple and painless surgical procedure completed under local anesthesia. The duration of the procedure is about 10 minutes to â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;de-pigmentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; the whole arch. The dark pigmented areas are removed or exfoliated to expose the naturally pink tissue underneath. Thus the result is a healthy smile that looks natural and radiates confidence. This procedure can be performed on individuals of all ages. Healing of the treated tissues is fairly rapid. Discomfort for the patient, both during and after treatment is minimal. There are absolutely no complications after the gum surgery and there is no discomfort. The patient can talk and eat normally after the gum beaching procedure. In some cases where the gums are very sensitive the patient can feel minor discomfort but that to goes with healing which is very quick.

Other causes for dark gums include poor oral hygiene, smoking, medications and metallic fillings. Gum diseases can occur because of poor oral hygiene which may cause gums pigmentation. There is inflammation, redness and bleeding in case of gum diseases which may cause darkening of the gums. Smoking also causes dark gums. Tobacco consumers also have darker gums in comparison to non-tobacco consumers. Some medication like minocycline, antimalarial agents, tricyclic antidepressants can also cause dark gums. I would say the customer is always right I always try to live by that principle. Also retail is detail, and by that I mean if you really want to build an attractive store, it›s all about the details.

Q: What does it mean to you being one of the top managers at such a well-known conglomerate?

We certainly don›t look at it that way in Alshaya. We›re in the head office all working hard to support the store team, and that›s the role of all of us. It›s to give our client an exceptional experience in the store.

Q: What does the Avenues mean to Alshaya? The avenues is certainly a great mall. It is much better now after the expansion in Grand Avenue, and I think it›s one of the most important projects for Alshaya. When we wanted to ring Pottery Barn Teens, we knew that the Avenues is the right place to start such a project.

Q: How would you evaluate the Kuwaiti market? I would say that the Kuwaiti market is fairly strong, there are many customers who are willing to shop. Our customers demand great quality products for good value. Nobody expects great quality products to be cheap, but at the same time nobody wants to pay too much. So what we›re doing in Alshaya is bringing great quality products for our clients, at great value. The Kuwait customer wants a variety of great choices, and a lot of people in Kuwait are travelers. They understand which are the great brands internationally, and we›re bringing those great brands to them here in Kuwait so they can shop at their leisure.

Q: What is your advice to small business owners? If you want your store to attract customer, you have to have a great product to begin with. Your products have to be great, and they need to be marketed well, and they need to be priced well.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

designing and became a freelance digital artist. I›m also a photographer but I have been using my photographies recently in my digital art because I wanted to focus more on one field. Art started as a hobby since my early childhood then it has been developing through time till my interests started to move toward digital art then I found the way to use this hobby to benefit myself and others to enjoy my art.

Q: What do you exactly do? Is it a career or passion for art?

Q: When did you start ?

A: My name is Farah Bastaki, a 24 years old Kuwaiti girl who loves all kind of arts and passionate about trying new things in life and exploring the world through art. I studied accounting in the united states and I also have a minor in Art Studio. I graduated in 2011 and came back to Kuwait, and since then I started to take my passion of art more seriously and got more in public kuwaiti life.

A: I›m fully passionate about art in general. Recently I started to focus on digital art and graphic

A: I started my interest in digital art in my last year in high school when I was 16 years old. I used to make simple designs in Photoshop. I tool the

digital art more seriously when i moved to the states in 2006 to start my major in accounting. I spent my free time over there in developing my skills in both photoshop and photography. I used to read designing magazines and learning from YouTube and websites. And my passion about art never stopped, I kept learning everyday even after graduating and coming back to Kuwait.

Q: What is your favorite project from the ones you have worked on?

A: I did too many digital art work each of them has some special memories and means a lot for me because I do art to express myself and it most-

ly reflect my life and my wonder world that I can only express it through art. Two of my favorites are two digital drawing that I did called «Arabian Night» and «Arabian Sea». Also a project of 6 digital works called «what happens in my bedroom when I have a hobby!». And there is a new art project that I will be first introduce in theCITY magazine called «Master Artists in Modern Art» which is now became on of ma favorites. This art work include 6 digital arts each of them represent a master artist. You guess who is the artist behind each of them! :)

Q: Did you participate in any art exhibitions or galleries?

A: Through this year I have participated in 4 exhibition. «Mawaheb Group» in Meshrif, «Hewayty» in GUST, «Mawaheb» in Kuwait University. and «Mawaheb» in avenues by sabah alarmed center for giftness and creativity which is the exhibition that changed my digital art life and took it to more higher levels and got me to know people in the society from all the levels and ages.

Q: What are your future plans?

A: To keep learning and improving myself and never stop believing that I can reach all my goals in digital art by putting some efforts and never missing opportunities.

Q: Where do you see youself in the next five years?

A: I see myself as a well known freelance digital artists that I can find my digital work all around the world.

‫‪Chocolate‬‬ ‫اإلسبان إكتشفوه و اإلنجليز قاموا بتصنيعه‬ ‫الكثري منا يتسائل من هو أول من اكتشف الكاكاو ؟‬ ‫هو املكتشف األسباين فرناندو كوريتز وكان ذلك يف عام ‪١٥١٩‬م حيث الحظ كوريتز بان االزتكيني‬ ‫كانوا يستخدمون حبات الكاكاو إلعداد مشروب ساخن يقدمونه لزعمائهم ويطلقون عليه‬ ‫اسم شوكوال أي يف ما معناه الشراب الدافئ و كان مذاقه مر فقام كوريتز و رجاله بإضافة‬ ‫السكر إليه و عادو به إىل أسبانيا ‪.‬‬ ‫أما اإلجنليز فكانوا أول من فكر يف تصنيع الشوكوال الصلبة لألكل كما نعرفها يف الوقت‬ ‫احلاضر و كان ذلك يف عام ‪ ١٨٤٧‬م‬ ‫و كذالك السويسرين كان لهم دور يف املوضوع فهم أول من أضاف احلليب إىل الشوكوال‬ ‫وكان يف عام ‪ ١٨٧٦‬م‬ ‫و هم أيضًا أول من جعل الشوكوال ذات قوام و ملمس ناعم ‪.‬‬

‫ويذكر الدكتور جوفينسر أستاذ الكيمياء و خبري الشوكوالتة يف جامعة سكرانتون أن‬ ‫للشوكوالته فوائد كثريه منها ‪:‬‬ ‫‪ -١‬متنح االحساس بالسعادة‬ ‫ويشبه تأثريها الكيميائي نفس التأثري لذي يحدث للعشاق يف حاالت احلب ألن الشوكوال تؤثر‬ ‫على املناطق املوجودة يف املخ اخلاصة بتحريك و إثارة املشاعر الراقية و اإلحساس‬ ‫بالرضا عن الذات‬ ‫‪ -٢‬الشوكوال تعترب وقايه حلاالت التوتر و االكتآب‬ ‫‪ -٣‬متنع اإلصابة بالقرحة فقد اكتشف املتخصصون أن مضادات االكسدة املوجودة يف‬ ‫الشوكوالته تشابه تلك املوجودة يف األدوية املضادة للقرح ‪.‬‬

Well, we had the opportunity to get an even better experience; we went to Yasmin Farms and saw how these beautiful vegetables and fruits are grown, and weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re here to tell you all about it.

After our visit to the dairy section in Yasmin Farms (which is branded as Alban Dairy) we went to the beautiful farming section, which produces a big variety of vegetables and some fruits. The farm is beautiful, spacious, well organized and immaculately clean. We couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t not love this place, we just couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t!

What makes these farms so special is a list of many reasons, but the most important for you to know is probably the fact that everything produced in this farm is not treated with chemicals, hormones, pesticides or antibiotics. Mr Bader Al-Ayoubi first showed us the section where the vegetables are grown. He explained to us in detail how everything is done in a way that ensures the produce is clean and free from harmful chemicals. This is almost organic farming, minus the certification which is due to some technical issues.

Most if not all produce grown in Kuwait would have spend a minimum of 8 hours in the open dusty weather prior to reaching the consumer. We recognized that there is no self control on what and when the produce is sprayed. The farm has 200 climate-controlled greenhouses, where all these fresh vegetables are grown. Yasmin Farms invested heavily in in state-of-theart sorting and packaging facilities, exposing the produce to direct sun for no more than 5 minutes before it is transported to an air-conditioned and refrigerated sorting facility where it is packaged. The process of sorting and packaging is supervised at all times in accordance to strict and hygienic standard operating procedures, and all the staffed wear gloves when handling fruits and vegetables. They work on clean sanitary stainless steel sorting tables. All produce are then moved to refrigerated rooms to be prepared to be shipped to the retail outlets in clean and refrigerated trucks. To all the staff in Yasmin farms, itsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; all about quality. As a consumer, you definitely want the fruits and vegetables that you can find in these farms. All the produce are sealed and stamped with the date of production and date of packaging, to give you as a consumer a very clear idea of how fresh your food is.

After seeing the vegetables, we went to the section where the fruits and dried. Slices of orange and apple are dried naturally, with no additives and no chemicals. They look beautiful. We concluded our visit to the farm by passing through the Farmers Market, where all the products of the Yasmin Farms are sold. Aside from products, the market sells cutlery and accessories, beautiful straw baskets and wooden plates that look stunning for presenting food. They also sell spice mixes, pickles and fruit preserves.

Visiting the farm is seriously worth the trip. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s less than an hour drive, and the place is absolutely beautiful. Cake and Bake’s Customized Cakes: Festive Colors for Sweet Celebrations We were lucky to be invited by Cake and Bake to watch them create a wonderful delicious cake. Every month, we will be giving you an exclusive sneak peek into the wonderful desserts they offer. In this issue, we watched as the wonderful cake artist Olivier Breyne layered the cake and decorated with all sorts of delicious fillings and toppings. Our team felt like little kids in a toy store! We’ll leave the pictures do the talk. Here is a quick chat we had with chef Olivier Breyne.

Q: How difficult is it to meet the demands of clients when it comes to customizing their cakes?

A: The wonderful thing about cake is that with your own creativity and knowledge you can create absolutely anything! We are able to cater to whatever the customer demands. We have yet to come across a request which we could not fulfill.

Q: What are the most popular cake flavors here in Kuwait?

A: In Kuwait I have noticed that people are into richer flavors such as nutella cake, red velvet, and chocolate pound cake.

Q: How long does it take to finish a cake, on average?

A: It really all depends on the cake. Simpler and smaller cakes can take up to 30 minutes for decoration, whereas multi-level cakes with hand-painting or intricate designs can take up to 4 hours if not more.

Q: What is the most challenging cake you have created here in Kuwait? Are there any trends or requests that you are fed up with and wish that they would just disappear?

A: I wouldn’t call it challenging, but there is a trend where customers ask to place their gift inside the cake, which is always exciting. We go to another dimension of cake construction and engineering. We have safely placed everything from an engagement ring to brand new car keys inside various looking cakes. Each gift is wrapped with food-safe materials and placed strategically to create the ultimate surprise for that special someone.

Q: Usually for what occasions do clients order special cakes?

A: Weddings/engagements, birthdays, corporate logos, graduation and newborn celebrations are probably some of the most common special cake orders.

Ingredients: 1 small pumpkin, peeleds & cut into small cube 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 medium onion, diced 1 green chili, chopped 2 tbsp Greek yogurt 1/3 cup heavy cream 1 to 2 tbsp curry powder 2 cups arborio rice 5 cups vegetable broth A pinch of saffron

Pulp Fiction’s Spicy Saffron Pumpkin Risotto

Pumpkin cream: 1. Add olive oil and 1 tbsp butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Saute the onion, garlic and the green chilies. Add pumpkin cubes and keep sauteing. Add salt and pepper, curry leaves until and keep on fire until fully cook. Remove the curry leaves. 2. Set aside 3 tbps of the sauted pumpkin cubes for garnishing and a pinch of saffron. 3. Add the heavy cream and yogurt on the remaining mixture and let it cook until the pumpkin begins to fall apart. 4. Using a blender or an immersion blender, cream the mixture.

Preparation: 1. In a medium skillet, heat olive oil and 1 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add the onion, and garlic; cook and stir 5-7 minutes until tender.

2. Add the arborio rice, toast, stirring continuously for 3-4 minutes then add 1 cup of vegetable broth, stir until the rice absorb the liquid. Continue adding broth until the rice becomes al dente. 3. Add salt and pepper and stir. Add 1 tbsp butter, add pumpkin cream and stir. Cover and remove from heat; let it stand for 5 minutes. Stir gently and serve in a plate. Garnish January 2013 the risotto with the sautéed pumpkin cubes. 58

What do you think about when you’re hungry and looking for a satisfying quick fix? The first thing that comes to mind is usually a burger. At least that’s how it goes with me. I love burgers, I have to have a burger twice a week, and I’m always hopping from one burger place to another, looking for something special. I stumbled upon News Burger, a lovely teeny tiny place tucked in Jabriya. You won’t think that such a small place with only four tables and three people working inside is capable of producing such a delicious appetizing smell and finger-licking great burgers. The decoration is just fantastic, grey walls with big prints of first pages from international newspapers with the most unforgettable news. Sitting down was a bit of a torture -- as soon as you sit, the great smell of delicious food hits you, and you’re more hungry than you were at first. Not for long though, the service is quick, the burgers are made right there on the spot and served hot and yummy, with two kinds of fries: cheese fries, and chili cheese fries. You choose whether you want your burger to be a single or a double, you choose your toppings and you choose your sauce. Toppings range from mushroom, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles, and sauces include the traditional ketchup and mustard, as well as the amazing special News Burger Sauce among others. I loved the Double Burger, it was beyond delicious. It will be the reason why I will go back there again and again. The bun that is used is so yummy, the texture is soft and the smell of the bread is oh so appetizing. I had fun tasting 7 different burgers with different toppings, including the famous Ameena Burger which is my friend @7amadqalam’s signature burger. I also had fun taking orders and packing the food and prepping it for the clients, it was a great fun day at News Burger. How Do You Create Fashion? The question was puzzling and confusing, yet the answer was very inspiring. Who decides what›s fashionable and what’s not, whether it is on runways or in industrial factories? My fashion instructor Precious Lovell at Virgina Commonwealth University answered: It is you. You, fashoin designers are the ones who make that happen. This was how she started her first lecture to us. I spent three years learning this wonderful craft, and it has been a truly wonderful expereience. I won three awards, learned quite a lot of information about what makes the fashion indusrty what it is today. I learned many techniuqes and theories, and how to apply them. I also had the pleasure to meet Roberto Cavalli himself, who narrated to us his story about how it is very important to be presistent and adamant on reaching success. I showed him a sample of the work I have been doing, and he turned to Anne Marie Paltsou from Versace and professor Sandra Wilkins and said about my work, in a very Italian accent: «Look at that! She’s doing quite well already!» After the thrilling experience of studying, I wrapped this up with an exhibition showcasing my work. The clothes were inspired by Arabian tribes. The designs accentuate the inherent Arabian beauty, with a dagger studded with precious jewels instead of a boring flower bouquet. The wedding dress I designed made of ivory silk impressed Reem Acra, the renowned American wedding dress designer. It was overall a beautiful experience, and it has accumulated to the establishment of Fustanium, a place where Arab ladies can get clothes designed no differently than the way high end fashion clothes are designed, but they›re fitting to their traditions and culture.

Fur has been one of the biggest and most controversial fashion trends of the past few seasons and its dominance shows no signs of slowing down. The international fall fashion shows prove it: From the vibrant dyed toppers at Viktor and Rolf , DVF and jean paul gaultier to the remixed sable, fox, chinchilla and mink numbers at Fendi, designers pushed this classic cold weather look to the next level. So whether your fall fashion style is sleek and shine-y or wild and shaggy, there’s no shortage of furry options to choose from, including fabulous fur pieces that offer all the cozy chic warmth of the real thing, This is however one fashion trend with style landmines a-plenty from questions of colour and pattern to the oh-so dangerous issues of proportion and volume, Fur was one of the first materials used to ever make clothes in human history. Anti-fur campaigns were their biggest in the 1980s and 1990s when PETA and more animal rights activists took a stand against the farming of fur, Some of the most common animal sources used for fur fashion includes fox, rabbit, beaver and many more. Whether you are a fur lover or hater it is clear that fur fashion still has loyal fans.

A little bit of fur went a long way this season – another bold confident look as designers worked woven or leather silhouettes with the dramatic contrast of full fur sleeves. The mood fits with the 40s influences underpinning the season with strong shoulder emphasis. Key combinations include, fox with snakeskin, trench coat styling with fox sleeves, luxe cashmere with toning Mongolian lamb, sheared furs with knitted sleeves and decorative cloqués or brocades with furs like mink, nutria or squirrel.

The international runways gave us a renewed sense of optimism for fall 12/13 as we saw a surge of confidence underpinning the key looks for the season ahead with colour and a return to luxury furs leading the way, Colour was one of the most exciting and newest trends to emerge from the runways as designers opted for a palette of vivid playful brights, soft frosted pales and a range of intensely saturated jewel tones. Most commercial colours highlighted here are the use of poppy red, bright teal and the darker mallard green shades, all worked on luxe full-piled furs.

Vintage influences were the strongest trend direction from all four of the fashion capitals as designers opted for the safety net of the past for inspiration. The 20s and 30s were a strong tipping point for looks that concentrated on plush fur trims and dropped waist silhouettes and with the upcoming Madonna directed movie, WE, based on Wallis Simpson and the Prince of Wales, this is an era to watch. The 60s and 70s were the other key style decades plundered for next winter, an era currently the subject of an exhibition in Paris celebrating the golden years of YSL’s Rive Gauche.

The season’s mood of confidence also came through in the dramatic furs that headlined on the runways. It was all about the extravagant texture of furs like goat and Mongolian lamb – both fitting retro 60s and 70s silhouettes – or the elegant luxury of full furs like fox and mink, key to the vintage 30s and 40s looks permeating the season. Key silhouettes include the cropped jacket, especially in fox, the big shrug-on chubbie coat or jacket and the cape There was also a huge amount of lamb in every texture and weight, worked into commercial sports-driven looks like the shell top and zip-up coat.

And the mood of confidence came through too in the bold use of mixed furs, as designers collaged contrasting textures together to create textural dimension within a silhouette. That means flat silky furs like Swakara combined with mink, arctic fox with sheared mink and feathered fox or dyed mink with the opposing texture of furs like racoon. Watch also for colour-blocking as part of this look, especially the bold geometric Constructivist-inspired looks as seen at Lanvin.

We are not going to debate in this article weather it is good or not to wear real fur or not. Even though PETA has battled for years against killing animals for their fur the runway was full of furs this year. Some designer houses chose to use fake fur such as Chanel, Westwood and McCartney, they produce their own fake fur.

because of your dream. The energy and excitement is there for you to feel.

Something new? Well, how about achieving a dream? It›s a new year and everyone has their plans of either doing a diet or losing weight, but how about actually achieving that goal or dream? Do you have a dream that you aspire to achieve? If you do, have you taken the first step necessary to achieve it? Taking the first step is perhaps the most difficult thing to do in achieving a dream.

3. Expect a hard way ahead. While it’s not impossible, achieving your dream is definitely not easy. Don’t expect an easy way; expect a hard one instead. Having the right expectations from the beginning will make the journey much easier for you. That way, you won’t be surprised and lose heart when you encounter obstacles along the way.

Here are some dont’s to help you solve the mental obstacles: Don’t wait until the situation is perfect.

4. Take one bite at a time. Your dream may be big (it should be!) and that might make it seem overwhelming. But, like the saying says, “When eating an elephant take one bite at a time.” So take a small portion of it that you can handle. Think about something that you can do within one week, and then think about what you can do today. It could be as simple as calling a more experienced friend to ask some questions.

Don’t wait until other people agree with you.

There is no doubt that you can eat the elephant. But the key is to take the bites early and often. Good luck!

You should not wait until the situation is perfect because the situation will never be perfect. No matter how or when you see it, there will always be something that make you think again. Just like you shouldn’t wait for the situation to be perfect, you shouldn’t wait until everybody agrees with your idea. There will always be opposition, and that is perfectly normal. If you wait until there is a consensus, you will never start.

Don’t wait until your skill is good.

We might think that we need to have good skill before we start doing something. But the truth is, you will learn much more by doing than by waiting. Doing allows you to hone your skill much faster than just learning the theory. As you can see, the three points above have “don’t wait” in them. So here is the bottom line: the best time to start is now. I learned this in blogging. When I started my blog, I didn’t have the skill to create good content nor to market it properly. But I started blogging anyway. The first months were really tough. After blogging for four months, I got only ten subscribers. Thankfully, the experience taught me a lot. While there is still a lot of room for improvement, I’m now amazed to see what I’ve learned along the way.

Here are some more things you should do to successfully take the first step: 1. Believe in your dream.

Believing in your dream is essential to get the motivation you need to achieve it. You simply can’t fool your own heart. Deep down inside you know whether or not you can believe in your dream. Is the dream worth pursuing? Is it something that you want to pour your heart into?

2. Visualize your dream.

Can you imagine – in detail – how the world will look like when your dream comes true? Visualizing your dream will energize you because you can then see how the world changes for the better and how people live a happier life

PAGE Hello readers! Happy new year! We recently went to Chris Brown’s concert in Dubai. It was our first time to attend a concert in Dubai, and thankfully it was one of the best experiences. Everything was so perfect, from the DJ, to Chris Brown, and the crowd. The loud music and laser lights made the concert unforgettable! We arrived at 7 pm and waited about three hours for Chris Brown to come up the stage, and the best part about arriving early was that we were in the first line. The concert first started out with a couple of DJs who played great music. The remixes they played made us go crazy; time passed like the wind and it was finally the time for Chris to hit the stage! We kept screaming out his name, throwing our hands freely in the air and just embracing the good time we had. The best part was when we kept singing along to his songs. We definitely had an I-hear-my-heart-start-beating-tomy-favorite-song moment. Chris is one of the artists that we enjoy listening to, one of our favorite songs that he wrote is “With You”; it brings us back so much good memories, since it was first released in 2007. His latest album “Fortune”has so many hit songs. We recommend you all to listen to it, most of songs are just amazing, we love them all! Up! A miraculous experience Pixar is a studio that is somewhat if a miracle. It is one of the biggest studios in the world, yet they’re still willing to take big risks in their movies, they’re still willing to make family movies that try to be actual pieces of art rather than brain-dead junk food for kids. Up is a perfect is example. It tells a really absurd story, but tell it with strong passion and emotion that you can’t help but admire its creation. Considering that they threw 175 million dollars into this almost indie-film concept amazes me. It is a movie that is funny, poignant, surprisingly melodramatic, and above all, contains beautifully animated scenes of pure absurdity. The first fifteen minutes alone of the movie is worth writing an essay on. Those fifteen minutes remind me of Pixar’s short subjects. Most of the short subjects don’t contain much dialogue, but they are told with great charm and truly show the magic of animation. The fifteen minutes tell a heartbreaking love story, and only through visuals. The love story is told purely using the magic of animation; I almost got teary, not purely because of the story, but because of the beautiful way it was told. And after that, we are told the story of grumpy old man who goes on an adventure with a boy scout and a talking dog, while riding a balloon-powered house. Yes, the movie can be absurd, but I loved every minute of it. The absurdity of the movie makes works in context, and creates some huge laugh out loud moments. Take a scene where you are shown a bulldog flying a plane. I found that moment hysterical. Just the look on the dog’s face was hilarious. I mean, it was a bulldog casually flying a plane. (And the movie stars Doug, the most accurately represented dog in the history of cinema. If dogs could really talk, they’d all sound like Doug). What I love most about the movie is that it takes it’s time to develop the relationship of the Grumpy old Man and the Boy scout. The Boy Scout’s named Russell, and may I say he might just be the cutest kid ever to star on the big screen. He’s cute because he’s an animation, he’s a caricature of a child, he reached a cuteness level that cannot be reached by mere humans. (He fully demonstrates the power of animation). Their relationship is really beautiful, Carl (The Grumpy Old Man) is still grieving over his dead wife, and refusing to feel love. Russell on the other hand, is a neglected child who needs love and attention; so he tends to be a bit clingy. And the movie build off that, they do learn to love each other but it never feels hammered in on our heads because of how well written it was. I can imagine any other studio turning their relationship into the a painfully tedious experience, but not Pixar -- those guys care. And that is the heart of the movie, that’s what keeps it going, that is the one thing that stops us from getting lost in the absurdist universe the movie creates and helps us feel welcome in the movie and care about the characters. Let’s not forget the wonderful score composed by Michael Giacchino (Also known for Ratatoullie and Super 8); he sets the mood so well and the score is still beautiful to listen on its own. Up is one of those rare family movie that can be respected as a piece of art on its own, demonstrating the care and attention Pixar give to their movies, which is very rare for studios as big as Pixar. I think Pixar have established themselves as the “Studio Ghibli” of American animation.

‫يكن جمرد حلم واحد‪ ،‬بل كانت حلقات متصلة من األحالم و املميز فيها أنها كانت عن موضوع واحد ال يتغري‪،‬‬ ‫حلم أسعى ملعرفة نهايته‪ ،‬حلم دخول اجلامعة األمريكية‪ .‬الزال ذلك املشهد ال يغيب عن خميلتي وأنا أقود‬ ‫سيارتي بجانب ذلك الصرح الكبري وأبتسم ابتسامة أمل وثقة بأن مقعدي ينتظرين يف إحدى هذه القاعات وفع ًال‬ ‫أذن الرحمن وشاء القدر أن أنتسب لهذه اجلامعة و أحقق أحد أحالمي اجلميلة‪ .‬ال أخفي عليكم سرًا‪ ،‬ال زلت أحلم‬ ‫يف اللحظة التي أتخرج فيها من اجلامعة لتحقيق حلم آخر تلو اآلخر‪ .‬ال تخف من أن تتعمق يف أحالمك وتأخذك من‬ ‫مرسى إىل آخر‪ ،‬اخلوف هو من أن ال حتلم وال تثق بنفسك وبسواعدك وقدرتك على حتقيق ماشئت من طموحاتك‬ ‫وأهدافك‪ .‬تيقن بأن لكل جمتهد نصيب‪ ،‬وحتقيق األحالم ال يأتي على عجل بل بالتأين و اإلصرار وحتدي ذاتك الهادمة‬ ‫بأنك قادر وستحارب ألجل نفسك بأن تنجح‪ .‬ال تسخر من أحالم وطموحات البعض مهما كانت بسيطة بالنسبة‬ ‫لك‪ ،‬لكل منا شغف بشيء معني وحب لهواية معينة ويف قرارة نفسك تريد أن تعمل فيه‪ ،‬تريد أن حتققه وتريد‬ ‫أن ترى أحالمك تتحقق واحدة تليها األخرى‪ .‬هل تعلم كيف؟‬ ‫أو ًال ال تستصغر قيمة نفسك‪ ،‬نصيحة قدمها يل شخص عزيز وسرت على خطاها‪ .‬ثانيًا ال تتحبط من حماوالت‬ ‫البعض بالسخرية منك ومن أحالمك‪ .‬ثالثًا ال تخف من الفشل ما دمت حتاول الوقوف من جديد‪ .‬الفشل بالنسبة يل‬ ‫ليس عدو النجاح بل صديقه الذي ينصحه مباذا يفعل وكيف يفعل‪ ،‬بطريقة غري مباشرة الفشل هو احلافز األول‬ ‫للعمل على حتقيق مانصبو له‪ .‬غري نظرتك إىل الفشل‪ ،‬غري فكرتك عنه وإن فشلت فاعرف أنها هذه أول خطوات‬ ‫النجاح والوصول إىل حتقيق األهداف‪ .‬الفكرة هي ليست عبارة عن الوصول إىل القمة والنجاح‪ ،‬ال بل العكس‪ .‬اعمل‬ ‫على تصحيح فكرتك واجعلها كيف أصعد السلم خطوة بخطوة وعندما أصل إىل جناحي وحتقيق هديف أرى‬ ‫بعني ثاقبة كيف وصلت أنا إىل هنا وكيف كان مشواري لتحقيق حلم حتول إىل واقع‪ .‬يف التأين السالمة ويف العجلة‬ ‫الندامة‪ .‬أحالمنا جمعيها تتحقق إن ركزنا عليها وخططنا لها بعقل واعي وخطوات مدروسة‪ .‬العرثات والهفوات‬ ‫اذا مل تصبك فأنت مل تنجح‪ ،‬مل تتعظ‪ .‬ابدأ اآلن بتخطيط بسيط حللمك وشارك حلمك شخص تثق به وخطوة‬ ‫بخطوة ستنجح واقنع ذات نفسك بأنك ستصل وإن فشلت فأه ًال بالفشل الذي هو بيده سيعطيني هدية‬ ‫جميلة وهي اإلصرار على ماحلمت به‪ .‬انظر إىل حياتك بروح متفائلة وعقل متفتح وقلب ينبض بحب احلياة‪.‬‬

‫بشكل عام نريد ان نعرف عن مشروع بصمة كويتية ‪ ،‬منو املؤسسني ؟ من أين‬ ‫أتت الفكرة؟ شنو األهداف؟‬ ‫أسس قروب بصمة كويتية التطوعي بتاريخ ‪ ، 2012/08/17‬عن طريق «فجر حممد الكندري»‬ ‫‪ ,‬الفكره أتت لسبب وقت الفراغ الذي يعاين منه الشباب و حبا الستثمار هذا الوقت مبا يفيد‬ ‫الشاب و اجملتمع و الوطن ‪ ،‬أختار القروب جمال التطوع بدال من اجملال املادي لسبب ان‬ ‫التطوع ال ينتهي يف عمر حمدد ولكن يستمر ألجيال و ألن اجملال املادي ممكن أن يحي‬ ‫يف بعض االنفس املصلحه واالستغالل بعكس التطوع ال يوجد مربح منه غري االجر و تكوين‬ ‫العالقات االجتماعية االخوية ‪.‬‬ ‫مت العمل على البحث عن املتطوعني عن طريق مواقع التواصل االجتماعي « تويرت و انستقرام‬ ‫« ‪ ،‬ومتت عدة مقابالت اىل ان مت حتديد عدد اساسي للمجموعه ومت العمل على وضع اهداف‬ ‫و اساسيات للقروب ‪.‬‬ ‫شروط اختيار االعضاء ؟ الشرط الوحيد فوق ‪ 18‬سنه لتواجد وسيله املواصالت و ليكون هناك‬ ‫وقت فراغ ‪ ,‬بعكس طلبة املتوسط و الثانوي االختبارات بشكل اسبوعي أما طلبة اجلامعه‬ ‫وقت االختبارات حمدد مرتني او ثالث بالكورس فيتيح للشاب االلتزام بعمل بعيد عن الدراسة‬ ‫يشغل وقت فراغه ‪.‬‬ ‫أهداف القروب ؟ تتويج االنسانية و تعزيز الروح الوطنية ‪ ،‬وإحياء االيام العاملية الهادفة ‪ ،‬والبعد‬ ‫كل البعد عن السياسة ‪ ،‬ومن خالل هالبنود تندرج منها كل فعالياتنا ‪.‬‬ ‫ما هي النشاطات اللتي قدمتموها اىل االن ؟ ما هي النشاطات املستقبلية ؟‬

‫‪ /1‬حمله برد عليهم لعمال النظافة‬

‫وهي انطالقه القروب وهي عبارة عن وجبات غذائية خفيفه ‪ ،‬مت توزيعها على عمال النظافة‬ ‫يف الشارع ‪ ،‬الهدف من هذه الفعالية انه عامل النظافة عنده وجبه وحده باليوم الكرث من‬ ‫‪ 12‬ساعه واحيانا بدون وجبه فحبينا نساعدهم على عناء هذا العمل و تخفيف حرارة الصيف‬ ‫عليهم‬

‫متت هذه الفعالية بتاريخ ‪ 2012\12\12‬الساعه ‪ 12:12‬دقيقه بأخر مرة يلتقي التاريخ و الوقت فيها‬ ‫‪ ،‬تهدف الفعاليه اىل ارسال عده رسائل لفئات خمتلفه يف اجملتمع بعديا عن طريقه التلقني‬ ‫و قراءه الربوشرات ‪ ،‬اخرتنا العرض امللفت بني اجلمهور و الفكره هي وسط حركه اجلمهور‬ ‫يف اجملمع ومع املؤثرات الصوتيه يتم توقف مفاجئ و كلي حلركه جميع املتطوعني ونزول‬ ‫‪ 3‬برنات لعده ثواين على الرتتيب وقف ‪ ..‬فكر ‪ ..‬قرر ‪ ،‬ويتخلل هذا العمل عده مشاهد حتمل‬ ‫رسائلنا للمجتمع منها ‪( :‬هوشه) بني الشباب وبعد التوقف يتم التسامح بينهم وهذه رساله‬ ‫اجتماعيه \ جمموعه شباب يدخنون و بعد التوقف يرتاجعون عن التصرف وهذه رساله صحيه‬ ‫\ شباب يرمون (بطل ماي) باالرض و بعد التوقف يقررون يشيلونه ويضعونه باملكان الصحيح‬ ‫وهذه رساله بيئيه ‪.‬‬ ‫باالضافه اىل العديد من احلمالت يف تويرت منها ‪ :‬نكمل بعض \بصمتنا كويتيه\يوم التسامح‬ ‫العاملي \ يوم املعلم العربي‬

‫ويف هذا اليوم انطلقنا يف ‪ 3‬مدارس خمتلفه ‪ ،‬ابتداءا مبهرجان بيئي توعوي ‪ ،‬عن طريق‬ ‫مسابقات لالطفال تغرس فيهم حب البيئة و احملافظة عليها وحب الوطن ‪ ،‬ثم انطالقنا مع‬ ‫االطفال حلديقة املدرسة لتعليمهم طريقه الزراعه الصحيحه ومت زراعه اكرث من ‪ 500‬ورده‬ ‫مع االطفال‬

‫‪ /3‬يوم االبتسامه العاملي‬

‫يوم عاملي قمنا باحياءه اول مرة يف الكويت ‪ ،‬اخرتنا مستشفى مكي جمعه لهذه الفعاليه‬ ‫الحساسنا ان فئة مرضى السرطان من اهم الفئات اللي حتتاج ان نشاركهم ابتسامتهم‬ ‫حبينا نكسر الروتني وهلل احلمد كانت ردود فعل طيبة من اهايل املرضى و املرضى ‪.‬‬

‫‪ /4‬زيارات أجنحه األطفال رابع أيام العيد‬

‫قمنا بزيارة أجنحه االطفال يف ‪ 3‬مستشفيات بنفس الوقت «مستشفى الصباح و الصدري‬ ‫و مبارك» وقمنا مبعايدتهم بهدايات رمزيه وبكلمات ووجودنا بجانبهم ‪.‬‬

‫‪ /5‬مهرجان احملافظة على املسطحات اخلضراء‬

‫ومت املهرجان يف حديقه جممع ديسكفري ‪ ،‬كانت الدعوه عامه ‪ ،‬وقد قمنا بتوعية بطرق‬ ‫خمتلفه حيث يتخلل املهرجان جانب ترفيهي و مسابقات توعوية عن كيفيه احملافظة على‬ ‫البيئة ‪ ،‬خصوصا ان اختيار الوقت مع بداية فصل الشتاء فتم التوعيه على احملافظة على‬ ‫الشواطئ خصوصا بعد عملية الشواء ‪.‬‬

‫قمنا بتكرمي البطل ‪ :‬عبداهلل فاضل و حممد بوربيع من خالل استقابلهم يف املطار و تقدمي‬ ‫درع ‪ ،‬حرصنا على دعمهم و تشجيعهم و اهلل يكتب لهم أعلى املراكز لرفعه الكويت‬

‫هذه الفعالية من أصعب الفعاليات اللي واجهتنا لسبب خوفنا الزعاج هذه الفئة بكلمه‬ ‫او نظرة او تصرف ‪،‬وحتى اختيار نوع الفعالية كان جدا صعب و لكن احلمدهلل بفضل تعاون‬ ‫مركز»عبري‪ »2‬قدرنا نختار يوم الفواكه وهو عباره عن ‪ 3‬اقسام ‪ :‬االول صناعه العصري اخلاص‬ ‫فيهم باستخدام عصارات يدوية غري جارحه و الثاين صناعه سلطة الفواكه املفضله لديهم‬ ‫والثالث تزيني الكب كيك بالزينه التي يرغبون بها‪.‬‬

‫الشهر املاضي يف كلية العلوم االدارية أقامت سكرتارية العالقات العامة معرض تطوعي يف بهو الكلية و الذي كان يوجد به العديد من الفرق التطوعية و التي كانت‬ ‫تعرض مشاريعها و أعمالها و كان به تسجيل للمتطوعني ‪ ،‬و أحد هذه اجملاميع التطوعية إىل لفتوا نظري كان اسمه بصمة كويتية و كان لديهم لوحة عبارة عن علم الكويت‬ ‫من غري ألوان و كان الطلبة يلونون العلم ببصمات أيديهم و أصابعهم ‪،‬فكان لدي فضول أن أعرف عن هذا القروب املكون من شباب و بنات يبثون االيجابية و الروح اجلميلة‬ ‫يف املكان و ذهبت لهم و سألتهم عن املشروع و الذي رأيت فيه ما يسعدين أن يوجد شباب كويتني يبذلون وقت فراغهم يف ما ينفع البلد و يف املصلحة العامة و يعطون‬ ‫التفاؤل و لذلك أحببت اين أعطيهم ظهور إعالمي مرموق يليق باألعمال اجلميلة و اإليجابية التي سبق ان انتهوا منها و املستقبلية خالل مقابله و عرض بعض الصور من أجل‬ ‫مساعدتهم على التوسع ‪ ،‬أترككم مع املقابلة‪.‬‬

‫مشروع ‪ b book‬ميلك قاعدة بيانات خاصة باملشاريع الكويتية الصغرية واملتوسطة وقد عكفت يف الفرتة الزمنية السابقة على ان وصلت لهذا املستوى من هذه القاعدة الكبرية قررت أن‬ ‫أسوق هذه املشاريع بالطرق التسويقية احلديثة واستحداث كذلك طرق تساهم دائما يف تسويق املشاريع ومواكبة كل جديد‪.‬‬ ‫ّ‬

‫أتت فكرة دعم املشاريع الكويتية الصغرية تسويقيا بعد أن خضت كثريا يف جمال املشاريع الصغرية‪ ،‬حاولت جاهدا ان أجد أفكار تساهم يف دعم هذه املشاريع تسويقيا‪.‬‬ ‫مت دراسة الفكرة من عدة جوانب ونواحي واستخلصت أن املشاريع الصغرية تواجه ظلم إعالمي تسويقي إذ أن املشروع الواحد إن مل يجد من يسوق منتجه سيلجأ بنفسه لهذا العمل وقد‬ ‫يقلل هذا الشيء من أداءه مبشروعه النه سيلجأ حينها لعدة نشاطات منها الفكرة والعمل واالنتاج والتسويق ‪ ،‬وفكرة ‪ b book‬أتت مكملة للفكرة األساسية التي تهتم بتسويق املشاريع‬ ‫ووضعت تصور أن يشارك اكرث من ‪ 200‬مشروع كخطوة أولية مع زيادة صحية يف كل إصدار قادم‪ ،‬حيث أنني أعلم بأهمية املشاريع لدى الشباب وأن يف االونه االخرية قد جلأ الكثري منهم لهذه‬ ‫املشاريع مع وجود أفكار ساهمت برقي هذه املشاريع‪.‬‬

The flagship of this famous Italian firm’s range, the Lamborghini Aventador pushes supercar boundaries with its carbon-composite chassis and scintillating performance. The latest in a long line of V12 Lamborghinis, it’s sure to become a pin-up poster favourite like the classic Countach. Joining the exclusive V12 road car club it takes the ultimate performance car battle to rivals like the Pagani Zonda, Aston Martin DBS and Ferrari 599 GTO. It’s four-wheel drive, has active aerodynamics and ceramic brakes. Performance is staggering, while the bold looks are unmistakable and the cabin upmarket

control – rather appropriately called Thrust Mode and it will reach 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds, and in the right environment keep accelerating all the way to 217mph. The wide tyres, stiff composite chassis and advanced suspension deliver huge amounts of grip, while four-wheel drive ensures all 690bhp can be placed on the tarmac. The weighty steering delivers decent feel and the turn in is very positive, and there’s no perceivable body roll. Its size, bold octagonal shapes and upward opening scissor doors are key features, but the razor sharp lines are driven as much by aerodynamics as they are by beauty. A composite chassis, 690bhp V12 engine and Formula One inspired push-rod suspension lurk beneath the stunning exterior. The cabin is beautifully trimmed and features a host of high-end Audiderived switchgear, while the central instrument dials are formed of an ultra modern digitised screen. Thanks to input from Audi, the flimsy switchgear and temperamental electrics of old are long gone. When it comes to safety the Lamborghini Aventador has stability control, ceramic brakes and an active rear

With a price tag nearing the KD 120 000 , only the very privileged will be able to afford a Lamborghini Aventador, and thus running costs are unlikely to be at the top of the priority list. Yet, despite an eight per cent power hike, the all-new V12 engine is around 20 per cent more fuel-efficient than the V12 found in the old Murcielago. Emissions have dropped by a corresponding amount, but the Lamborghini Aventador still emits 398g/km. With a 90-litre fuel tank you can achieve decent range on the road, and it doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t demand high-octane fuel.

Chevrolet and GMC have finally unveiled their all-new Silverado and Sierra 1500 pickups. The pickup trucks market is a very important one for GM, and it has become a very important market here in Kuwait as well. Chevrolet unveiled its all-new 2014 Silverado 1500 full-size pickup. It gets a completely new yet settle redesign exterior and a completely redesigned interior. Among the many updates for 2014 are new three EcoTec3 engines, a V-6 and two V- 8, engineered specifically for use in full-size trucks. The three new engines are a 4.3L V-6, a 5.3L V-8 and a 6.2L V-8, all from a shared EcoTec3 engine family. Each engine features standard direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management, which means they seamlessly switch to run on four cylinders during light-load driving to save fuel. Full engine specs are still not released but are expected to be finalized sometime this year. The 2014 Sierra also uses electric power steering. A new instrument cluster, 4.2-inch color Driver Information Center with vehicle status information, a trip computer, and other information, like radio and navigation. Also available for the Silverado is the new MyLink infotainment system which is designed to be easy-to-use, highly customizable and capable of linking up to 10 devices. It features natural language voice recognition that allows customers to place calls, enter destinations, browse media, play music and control other functions simply by telling the vehicle what to do. There are no key phrases to remember and no need to look at a screen. A suite of active safety features will be optional for the 2014 Sierra as well, including Forward Collision Alert, which uses a forward-facing camera to notify the driver of an imminent collision, and Lane Departure Warning, which uses the same camera to track the truck’s position in relation to a road’s lane markers. 2014 Silverado will become part of Chevrolet’s three-truck portfolio. It joins the Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD pickups, which were new for the 2011 model year. For the first time, Silverado 1500 crew cabs will be available with a longer 6’6” foot box, in addition to the previous 5’8” box. The 2014 Silverado 1500 crew cab will start production in the second quarter of 2013, with other cab styles following later in the year. On the same time, GMC revealed its all-new 2014 Sierra 1500 full-size pickup. The Sierra gets a new bold exterior design and three all-new EcoTec3 engines. It also gets an all-new interior cabin with the next-generation IntelliLink connectivity system. The three new engines are a 4.3L V-6, a 5.3L V-8 and a 6.2L V-8, all from a shared EcoTec3 engine family and similar to the engines used in the all-new Silverado. The Sierra gets a new instrument cluster, 4.2-inch color Driver Information Center with vehicle status information, a trip computer, and other information, like radio and navigation. Sierra is available with a 110-volt outlet, up to five USB ports, four 12volt outlets and an SD card slot. Available IntelliLink connectivity uses an available high-definition, fully reconfigurable eight-inch color touchscreen that control audio features, a Pandora app, Bluetooth phone features, and available navigation with all-new map displays. A suite of active safety features will be optional for the 2014 Sierra, including Forward Collision Alert, which uses a forward-facing camera to notify the driver of an imm nent collision, and Lane Departure Warning, which uses the same camera to track the truck’s position in relation to a road’s lane markers. Paired with Forward Collision Alert and Land Departure Warning is GMC’s first-ever Driver Alert Seat, which generates vibrating pulse patterns on the left and/or right side of the lower seat cushion bolster to alert the driver of potential dangers, such as an un-signaled lane change or approaching another vehicle too quickly. Sierra’s hood is aluminum, saving approx mately 17 pounds versus a comparable steel hood. At the rear, a rollformed box is stronger, lighter and more durable than a traditional stamped steel box. Sierra will also offer the All-Terrain styling for 2014. It includes a unique exterior appearance with a painted grille and less chrome, and is available as an extended cab or crew cab in a limited number of colors. Standard equipment for Sierra All- Terrain includes the Z71 off-road suspension with monotube Rancho shocks, hill descent control, front recovery hooks, a transfer case shield and unique wheels and tires, along with an automatic locking rear differential that reacts in milliseconds in low-traction situations to improve safety and confidence on wet, snowy or muddy surfaces. Sierra All Terrain is available exclusively with an ebony interior and with front bucket seats on SLE models. A carbon fiber-look seat accent is standard on SLT models.

Gulf Bank Announces Partnership with INJAZ Kuwait for 2013

Bank is committed to building the skills of Kuwait’s future business leaders Gulf Bank recently announced its partnership with INJAZ Kuwait for the year 2013. The partnership involves strategic support from the Bank on three key INJAZ programs; Innovation Camp, Job Shadow Day, and More Than Money. Gulf Bank’s partnership is in line with its 2013 Corporate Social Responsibility strategy which focuses on encouraging the talents of the next generation of Kuwaiti youth. The Bank is supporting INJAZ programs that give students of INJAZ a firm understanding of the business world. Each of the three programs selected provides students with different experiences which will be of practical use when they enter the business environment after education. Innovation Camp is an exciting one day workshop that challenges 75-80 high school and university students to find the most innovative solution to a business issue or problem using the leadership, critical thinking and teamwork skills. The Bank will mentor this activity to assist students in expanding their horizons. Job Shadow Day is a day when the Bank plays host to students, giving them the opportunity to meet professional banking staff and see first-hand how a selection of the Bank’s departments operate on a day-to-day basis. More Than Money is a six session course which covers economics and business education for students in grades five and six. This will help to teach them how to spend, earn, share, and save money when establishing their own businesses.
