aturally at this time of year, we take stock of our habits, both personal and professional. Spending time assessing how you are approaching your business life is vital and the period following a relaxing festive break is ideal to renew our focus and review our objectives. But such an undertaking can be easier said than done. Enter the Potential Project: the leading global provider of organisational effectiveness programmes based on mindfulness. Their mission is to help an organisation achieve its strategic objectives by enhancing performance, creativity and resilience. Their UK experts, Mindfulness at Work, have been leading evidence-based, organisational mindfulness training since 2010, introducing over 10,000 people a year to their award-winning offerings. They have unsurpassed experience of designing and delivering a wide range of highly effective mindfulness performance and resilience programmes for the workplace, to enable personal and organisational excellence. But in this age of unprecedented speed, information overload, complexity, change and distraction, what qualities do we really need to succeed?

The tools of enhanced focus, clarity of mind and resilience are vital for the modern workplace, to enable you to maintain high performance, whatever the challenges. Over 350 global organisations, from Accenture to Genentech, Google to Microsoft, have employed these mindfulness techniques and now so can you. Louise Chester, founder of Mindfulness at Work and managing director of Potential Project UK, and Erick Rinner, partner at Potential Project International, TEDx speaker and founder of Milestone Capital, are coming to The Clubhouse, St James’s, to run a dedicated workshop for our members. Louise and Erick will draw both on their senior careers in financial markets, as well as their deep experience of designing and facilitating interventions for a wide variety of organisations, to deliver a practical workshop at The Clubhouse. It’s all very well having a developed business plan or a detailed five-year strategy at the ready, but to have true presence in meetings, maintain mental clarity whatever comes your way and meet every opportunity presented in peak condition, it’s wise to have a few mindful tricks up your sleeve. ● potentialproject.com

GREG TUFNELL CO-FOUNDER Prime Advantage

Prime Advantage has recently helped launch bestofbritannia.com, showcasing the country’s finest designers

Ga in in g the a d va n ta g e CH: Tell us about yourself and your company. I have spent most of my career in multichannel, international retail having been a director at Next, managing director at Burton and then CEO of Mothercare. For the last 15 years, I have worked in the SME marketplace with listed, private-equity-backed and owner/ driver businesses. I now run a portfolio of several businesses across retail and outside retail where I act as chairman, non-executive director and board advisor. I co-founded Prime Advantage in 2011. It is a business growth and corporate finance consultancy specialising in the SME sector. We work directly with founders, owners and stakeholders developing strategies that inspire growth, create value and maximise wealth. The focus is on peer-to-peer, direct, hands-on practical advice. The main purpose of Prime Advantage is to address the fact that every year in the UK 250,000 businesses start, which is fantastic, but at the same time 250,000 fail, so not so good. Prime Advantage tries to help those that start succeed and those that have started avoid failure. CH: What’s your biggest success so far? We recently sold a marine towage business to an Australian private-equity-backed operator for two and a half times the value of the company compared to when we began advising the business two years ago.

CH: What project are you most excited about right now? We have just helped launch bestofbritannia. com, which is an e-commerce platform focused on British brands that are only made in Britain. The site represents incredible craftsmanship and passion. CH: How has being a member of The Clubhouse improved the way you work or contributed to the success of your business? Above all it has offered a professional and welcoming environment for our existing and potential clients. CH: Where can members find you? At The Clubhouse, Mayfair most of the time. ● primeadvantageadvisory.com

GAGOSIAN GALLERY

THEATRE ROYAL HAYMARKET

SAN CARLO CICCHETTI

The late Michael Andrews was one of Britain’s leading post-war painters who was often associated with the School of London, a circle of figurative painters which notably included Francis Bacon, Frank Auerbach, Lucian Freud, R. B. Kitaj and Leon Kossoff. Andrews was a notoriously slow painter and during his lifetime had few solo exhibitions. The Gagosian next to The Clubhouse, Mayfair celebrates his works in ‘Earth Air Water’.

Damian Lewis and Sophie Okonedo return to the West End to star in the darkly comic masterpiece, Edward Albee’s The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? Martin (Lewis) is at the pinnacle of life: he has a loving wife and son, a hugely successful career as an architect, and the commission of a lifetime, but when he embarks upon an improbable and impossible love affair from which there is no return, familial relationships begin to collapse.

Set in a sophisticated yet relaxing interior of muted colours alongside huge expanses of light grey Italian marble, San Carlo Cicchetti on Piccadilly reinterprets the delightful Venetian culinary custom of cicchetti – delicious small plate dishes to share or eat alone. The place was bustling when we ate there for lunch with seats at tables or along the bar turning quickly. The Burrata with parma ham and black truffle was our favourite.

GIVING BACK

A he l p i n g h a n d f o r tomorrow’s entrepreneurs Collaborating with entrepreneurial programmes and celebrating success is the key to unlocking Britain’s next generation of innovators. Join us in extending a helping hand.

W

hen guest speakers come to The Clubhouse, there’s often a common thread in their stories — they caught the business bug at a young age and wanted to build something they could be proud of. It’s a trait The Clubhouse admires and identifies with enormously, so it is a natural progression that we have become a corporate patron of the Peter Jones Foundation. Founded in 2005 by Peter Jones CBE and with HRH The Duke of York as its patron, we are delighted to be supporting their work by donating £1 from every meeting room booking to the charity. Last year we hosted over 4,500 individual meetings at The Clubhouse and this year we hope to host over 5,500 so the more meeting rooms you book with us, the more we can assist the charity. It’s an easy way to benefit your business, their work and inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs. The Clubhouse’s purpose is closely aligned to the goals of the Peter Jones Foundation, making it a perfect link up. Peter Jones CBE commented: “The Peter Jones Foundation is thrilled to partner with The Clubhouse, one of London’s most prestigious business clubs. It is great to join forces with a business that shares a very similar mission to our own: to make entrepreneurs and their businesses more successful. I look forward to all that lies ahead!” Adam Blaskey, founder and CEO of The Clubhouse, said: “I am very proud to announce that The Clubhouse has become a corporate patron of the Peter Jones Foundation, a fantastic charity that helps young people reach their potential through a range of educational activities and initiatives that champion and celebrate entrepreneurship.”

Driving the Foundation forward is the belief that all young people deserve access to education. Through different schemes, including the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy and Tycoon in Schools, the next generation have the opportunity to acquire the skills they need from the outset. At The Clubhouse our continuous aim is to make our members and their business more successful — we believe that no potential entrepreneur should lose that opportunity, whatever their age, and that budding businesses should have a helping hand. So book a meeting room for your business needs knowing you are encouraging the dragons of the future. ● Book your next meeting room online at theclubhouselondon.com/meeting-rooms Visit peterjonesfoundation.org for more information
