Refreshing the winning La La Land collaboration, 2017 Oscar-winning director Chazelle and Gosling return to the silver screen in this biopic of Neil Armstrong and NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon. A personal account, with a heart-wrenching performance from Gosling and equally moving delivery from Foy as his wife, this is a story about sacrifice, danger, and the pure optimism of space travel as seen through the lens of the 1960s.
It’s a tale as old as time, relived through the decades by greats such as Judy Garland, James Mason and Barbara Streisand, but in this directorial debut from star Bradley Cooper, A Star is Born receives a fresh take for a modern world. Seasoned musician Jackson Maine (Cooper) discovers - and falls in love with - struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer until Jackson coaxes her into the spotlight.

A precise and compelling debut, this is an atmospheric family drama that conjures the tight-lipped emotions and brittleness of a strained American homelife in 1960s Montana. 14-year-old Joe (Oxenbould) is the only child of Jeanette (Mulligan) and Jerry (Gyllenhaal) - a housewife and a golf pro. Nearby, an uncontrolled forest fire rages close to the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his job and his sense of purpose - he decides to join the cause of fighting the fire, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves.
“This handsomely made, meticulously acted period picture is an impressive directorial debut for Paul Dano… who create some soberly beautiful tableaux of postwar American life.” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
