WELCOME THE GOAL
Welcome to the January to April season and to what promises to be a very exciting time in The Courtyard’s 20th Anniversary year, which is proving to be one of The Courtyard’s busiest and most successful seasons. The Courtyard team were extremely proud to present the critically acclaimed production of The Goal in October 2018. This was The Courtyard’s first ever professional Main House production of a new work, in partnership with Hereford Football Club. It’s not too late to book tickets for our Christmas productions, whether it be our magical pantomime, Peter Pan, our studio Children’s Christmas show, Snow White or our Christmas Heineken Comedy Clubs to watch some top class comedy at The Courtyard.
The Courtyard has so much to offer and there is something for everyone, not just on stage but throughout the community of Herefordshire and through our education, outreach and participatory work. I do hope that you will join me and the rest of The Courtyard team for all the fantastic shows, films, live screenings, workshops or community outreach projects, and if you are able, please support our I HEART CY 20 Appeal to raise £70,000, see page 33. Sit back, relax and enjoy everything that The Courtyard has to offer. Ian Archer Chief Executive & Artistic Director

PETER DONOHOE PLAYS MOZART Elgar – Serenade for Strings Mozart – Piano Concerto no25 Elgar – Introduction and Allegro Mozart – Symphony no31 ‘Paris’
Resident Orchestra
Peter Donohoe – piano/director A perfect successor to Eine kleine Nachtmusik, Elgar’s Serenade for Strings is also the perfect complement to the earlier composer’s lucid way with orchestration. Add in some wind and timpani and you also have the perfect backing for Peter Donohoe’s immersive interpretation of this, the last of the twelve great Viennese piano concertos. Add a pair of clarinets and an extra flute, and we have the twenty-two-year-old Mozart at his most vigorous – as is Elgar’s stirring Introduction and Allegro for string quartet and string orchestra: again glancing backwards to become one of the greatest concerto grossos ever composed.
All the classics are lovingly and accurately replicated live from Sweet Child O’ Mine, Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City from the all-time classic rock album Appetite For Destruction right through to the phenomenal hits like November Rain, Estranged and Civil War from the later Use Your Illusion albums. For the masses of Guns N’ Roses fans, UK Guns N’ Roses are regarded as a very real alternative to the now disbanded Guns N’ Roses. Put simply.... if you want Guns N’ Roses, see UK Guns N’ Roses! ADAPTED BY MARGARET MAY HOBBS DESIGNED & DIRECTED BY MICHAEL LUNNEY Starring Ian Kelsey with Paul Opacic (Bad Girls, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale), Christopher Ettridge (Goodnight Sweetheart), Richard Walsh (London’s Burning) and Karen Drury (Brookside). The powerful best-selling courtroom thriller. What price the truth?
PAUL OPACIC
Following the phenomenal success of its world premiere tour, Middle Ground Theatre Company is delighted to present the second tour of the gripping and critically acclaimed courtroom sensation The Verdict. Frank Galvin is a washed up veteran lawyer and an alcoholic. He is presented with one last chance to redeem himself when he is given an open-and-shut medical malpractice case that no one thinks he can win. Up against the unforgiving medical establishment and the all-powerful Catholic Church, he courageously refuses an out of court settlement, believing it is negligence that has condemned a young mother. Smelling a cover up, he instead takes the case and the entire legal system to court. A stunning courtroom thriller made famous by the five times OSCAR nominated Sidney Lumet film with Paul Newman and James Mason. Ian Kelsey is known by millions for his regular roles in Blue Murder, Emmerdale, Casualty, Down To Earth, Where The Heart Is, Doctors and Coronation Street.
