WELCOME Welcome to our autumn season here at The Courtyard, and what a season it promises to be!

Not only will they perform an exceptional programme of orchestral concerts at The Courtyard but we will be working with the orchestra as part of our ongoing programme with schools and through our work with Creative Ageing delivering projects out in the community of Herefordshire.

The 18 September 2018 marks 20 years since The Courtyard opened its doors – a fantastic achievement that we’re extremely proud of. A lot has changed over the years, but our ethos remains the same; to put the community at the heart of everything we do. We create artistic excellence locally and nationally and build opportunities for all through participation, diversity and inclusion.

All of this excitement is topped off by a first for The Courtyard… Peter Pan. This classic JM Barrie tale will be brought live to the stage of The Courtyard in a pantomime that will really hook you in!

Our exciting 20th Anniversary will bring many special events as highlighted on page 3. We also have some very special events to commemorate the occasion; kicking off with The Courtyard’s new production, The Goal. Commissioned by The Courtyard and working in partnership with Hereford Football Club, The Goal celebrates one of Hereford’s most iconic moments; that Giant-Killing Ronnie Radford Goal.

I’ll leave you with a quote from the Artistic Director, Jonathan Stone, from our opening in September 1998: “At last, the long cherished dream of a new theatre and arts centre for Herefordshire is about to become a reality. We are creating a place that will live for many generations to come. The Courtyard will excite and inspire, becoming a centre for the whole community. The Courtyard is an investment in all our futures.” – Jonathan Stone, Artistic Director (1998)

I am also delighted to announce that we will be bringing the fabulous Orchestra of the Swan to The Courtyard for a very exciting partnership and residency.

THE COURTYARD IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HEREFORD FOOTBALL CLUB PRESENT

THE GOAL February 5th, 1972

The day a joiner from West Yorkshire lashed a glorious 35-yard shot past a despairing keeper and into the corner of the net at the Meadow End, helping Hereford United to an historic FA Cup 3rd round victory over Newcastle United. Chris, Bob, Dan, Yorkie, Twig and Brian were right there, just like they were for all the Bulls’ games. Six kids with passion, belief and ill-fitting tracksuits – the ball boys! The Goal is their story – of that season on the touchlines at Edgar Street watching their heroes, getting to know each other, swapping stories, secrets and more with the audience and each other. Six actors play a cast of thousands in a bittersweet comedy as The Courtyard Hereford celebrates one of the most monumental moments in the club’s history… and the city itself. Join us for a unique production based on that legendary Ronnie Radford goal.

THE VERDICT

ADAPTED BY MARGARET MAY HOBBS STAR CAST TO BE ANNOUNCED The powerful best-selling courtroom thriller. Frank Galvin is a washed up veteran lawyer and an alcoholic. He is presented with one last chance to redeem himself when he is given an open-andshut medical malpractice case that no one thinks he can win. Up against the unforgiving medical establishment and the all-powerful Catholic Church, he courageously refuses an out of court settlement, believing it is negligence that has condemned a young mother. Smelling a cover up, he instead takes the case and the entire legal system to court. A stunning courtroom thriller made famous by the five times Oscar nominated Sidney Lumet film with Paul Newman and James Mason. “The Verdict is outstanding. EXHIBITIONS THURSDAY 16 AUGUST – SUNDAY 30 SEPTEMBER

SPACE TO ENGAGE The Space to Engage exhibition is the culmination of a yearlong partnership between Herefordshire Libraries, Toni Cook and SHYPP (Supported Housing for Young People Project).
