Winner best documentary at sundance and edinburgh Film Festivals
uSa, 2015, 1 hour 30 minutes
This documentary follows six articulate, engagingly enthusiastic brothers who spent their lives confined by their father to a small New York apartment. We first meet the boys suited and booted as the cast of Reservoir Dogs. Their greatest pleasure was to dress up and re-enact their favourite films from The Godfather to Pulp Fiction. This is a quietly moving story of how ‘movie love’ can help people not simply survive but even thrive despite such a bizarre upbringing.
Pamela Flores chile/France, 2015, 2 hours 13 minutes
This arresting spectacle is a mischievous exercise in imaginary autobiography. All the characters, places and events are real. But only on the surface is it about a girlish, sensitive kid growing up in 1930s Chile under the watchful eye of his severe Communist father and a bosomy mountain of a mom.

The oldest horse race in the world is an utterly gripping spectacle that takes over the streets of Siena. horses are allocated by lot four days prior to the race. This is when the madness truly begins as strategy, bribery and corruption play as much a part as the skill of the riders.
In this his last ‘silent’ film (which has sound effects), Charlie turns against the infernal machine age and its impact on the ‘little guy’. Subjected to the infernal production rate of the factory a model worker can’t keep up and is sent to the mental hospital. From hospital, to prison, to unemployment, the Little Tramp gets caught up in the sprockets and cogs of modern life. That is until he helps a beautiful orphaned girl escape from the police.

This year’s Early horror Shorts from the Abertoir horror Festival feature the lighter side of cinema’s first adventures into the realms of the macabre and the other worldly. Five films which delightfully embrace both the sinister and the just slightly bananas are set side-byside with one of the truly classic dark films of silent horror. All the films are silent and will be accompanied on the piano.
reD armY (15) Director: gabe Polsky Starring: Viacheslav Fetisov, Scotty Bowman, anatoli Karpov uSa, 2015, 1 hour 24 minutes, subtitles
Ostensibly a documentary about the famous Russian ice hockey team this reveals so much more about Soviet life during the Cold War. Via bizarre footage and masculine choral music, Polsky does an energising, often hilarious job of foregrounding the symbolism of these clean-cut, shining examples of Soviet superiority.
