An ageing folk singer is accused of “abetting of suicide” when a sewerage worker is found dead in Mumbai. An affecting mix of absurdist comedy and engrossing tragedy, this paints a rich portrait of Indian society by showing not just the trial, but also the private lives of the lawyers and the judge too. By revealing the bureaucracy, caste prejudice, and routine corruption, this creates a quietly devastating indictment of the Indian justice system. A masterpiece a work of the deepest empathy, sublime in its construction.” Joshua oppenheimer, director of aCT oF KiLLinG

Set during the final years of Hollywood’s Golden Age, the Coens’ latest comedy follows a day in the life of studio fixer Eddie Mannix (Brolin). Required to keep the company’s reputation clean, Mannix has to keep the studio’s stars in line while keeping the gossip columnists off the scent. When star Baird Whitlock (Clooney) disappears Mannix initially believes he’s been drinking. But then receives a call from a group of communists who claim to have kidnapped him and want a ransom. This has all the Coens trademark strengths – a fine script beautifully performed by a top-notch cast. A real joy!
