As I mentioned in my welcome in the last season guide, The Courtyard needs your support more than ever to meet the gap in the loss of local authority funding. The Courtyard has successfully launched its fundraising campaign for the season titled ‘I HEART CY’. The main thread of the campaign is a series of videos played before films at The Courtyard of what the thriving venue means to those who support it! You can donate at the Box Office when you book your tickets or online. I hope you will join me and the rest of The Courtyard team for all the fantastic shows in the season.

MONDAY 6 – SATURDAY 11 FEBRUARY 2017 MAIN HOUSE
Continuing its record breaking run at the Fortune Theatre in London’s West End, The Woman in Black now embarks on a major UK Tour this Autumn and is coming to The Courtyard in February. Susan Hill’s acclaimed ghost story comes dramatically alive in Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious stage adaptation. This gripping production, directed by Robin Herford, is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror. A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.

VISUAL ARTS THE HOP PROJECT
13 JANUARY – 19 MARCH 2017 A contemporary art project that uses the historical migratory movements of hop pickers as the conceptual basis for a touring exhibition. The artworks within the exhibition attempt to present a range of different voices involved in the history of hops and agriculture. The project doesn’t seek to present a factual, social history of hops; rather it offers an interpretation from a number of different angles and perspectives. It uses the verb ‘hopping’ as a working methodology to explore a number of tangential ideas connected to the history of hop growing.
