EXHIBITIONS 31 FRIDAY 8 JULY SUNDAY 11 SEPTEMBER
(NOT) BEING BORING… HEREFORDSHIRE ARTS & CRAFTS SOCIETY MENTORING PROJECT
This project developed out of the experience of the last Society show at the Courtyard which their then patron, Sir Roy Strong, in his opening address considered to be ‘boring’. This was acknowledged within the Society, and an idea was developed to explore ways to address this. The idea of an elective mentoring project emerged as one to shake-up participating members’ practice
and to reflect the shifts in art and craft practices in recent decades. Working with the artist and filmmaker Lois Hopwood, members of the society have undertaken a series of workshops to this end and (Not) Being Boring… is an exhibition using documentation and work in progress which will allow audiences an insight into this transformative process.

Continuing its record breaking run at the Fortune Theatre in London’s West End, The Woman in Black now embarks on a major UK Tour this Autumn and is coming to The Courtyard in February. Susan Hill’s acclaimed ghost story comes dramatically alive in Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious stage adaptation. This gripping production, directed by Robin Herford, is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror.
A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.
