Larkin’ About
Sunny Ormonde and John Telfer (Lilian Bellamy and Reverend Alan Franks from Radio 4’s The Archers,) explore the fascinating world of Philip Larkin through his wit, words, women and music. Although a poet, Larkin also wrote criticisms about his fond love of Jazz. In this engaging evening, Sunny and John are joined by flautist Ilone Antonius Jones and jazz pianist Matt Platt to weave together Larkin’s colourful life, work and loves.
This remarkable pairing played an important part in the shakeup given to British folk music in the mid to late 60’s. Dave Swarbrick first came to prominence on the folk scene as a young instrumental virtuoso in the Ian Campbell Folk Group. For more than 40 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial figures. His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but also far beyond it.

Derek Acorah The Eternal Spirits Tour
Given the very nature of this controversial subject it is of course important to be insightful and accurate as well as being able to communicate. However to fill theatres across the land requires not just these talents but also the ability to entertain. It requires a sensitive delivery and a warmth so often absent. Derek’s sincere and friendly approach marks him out as someone very special as he continues to bring help and support to so many. If you only see one event of its kind this year. Make sure it is Derek Acorah in The Eternal Spirits Tour.

Ghosts
Helen Alving is trapped in a world where the ‘dead ideas’ preached by Pastor Manders rule outright, and her own family’s insidious legacy threatens scandal. She is desperately trying to conceal her husband’s philandering past by building an orphanage in his name, under the pastor’s guiding hand. But the celebrated return of her estranged son Oswald brings Helen’s ghosts back to haunt her, and all hopes of success are reduced to ashes. Though penned in 1881, it is not hard for us to see the parallels in our own society; the pious leaders of the past replaced with our own custodians of the status quo, and money their new religion.

The Six Wives of Henry VIII Friday 18 October 7.30pm
Orchestras Live presents
the English concert
Two Actors. Too Many Characters. One Big Ego. Howard Coggins looks like Henry VIII. There’s no escaping that. Stu McLoughlin doesn’t really look like any of the wives, but he’s going to give it a go. The Six Wives of Henry VIII was an undisputed hit at the Bristol Old Vic, and with live original music, embroidery, barbie dolls, silly songs and historical hysteria, this promises to be an ill-researched lesson in cross-dressing Tudor history that you’ll never forget.
Recognised as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world and celebrated for its inspiring performances of Baroque and Classical repertoire, The Courtyard is delighted to welcome to its stage The English Concert. Now, almost 40 years old, the orchestra continues to perform with unique passion, sophistication, and technical mastery. This evening’s concert is directed by Trevor Pinnock, one of the pioneers of the modern revival of early music performance and founder of The English Concert in 1972. This concert is definitely not to be missed.

Vikki Stone
National Dance Company Wales
Definitely
National Dance Company Wales celebrates its 30th anniversary year with three exhilarating productions featuring twelve international dancers. Noces, from celebrated French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, uses Stravinsky’s immense score Les Noces to create a dynamic and precise work of tenderness and wild abandon. With his iconic dance vocabulary, Stephen Petronio’s production is a magical work framed by the haunting vistas of Welsh lakes and coastlines, to specially commissioned music from Atticus Ross (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network). House Choreographer Eleesha Drennan presents Virtual Descent created to a dramatic percussion concerto by Mark Bowden, resident composer of BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
Award-winning local comedian Vikki Stone debuts at The Courtyard with her hilarious stand-up and songs. You might have seen her on: ITV’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here… Now, This Morning, BBC3′s Britain In Bed and BBC1′s Richard Hammond’s Secret Service.

Tuesday 29 October to Saturday 2 November 7.30pm Sat Mat at 2.30pm
HereforD Musical Theatre Company present
42nd Street
Take yourselves back to the golden age of Broadway & the musical extravaganza that is “Forty-Second Street” Get ready for an all singing, all dancing musical with amazing stage settings and fabulous costumes! It is the timeless and inspiring tale of small town girl Peggy Sawyer’s rise from the chorus line to Broadway star, a story of hard work, being in the right place at the right time, talent and love. It is a celebration of Broadway and the people involved in shows. 42nd Street is full of classic hit songs including “Lullaby of Broadway”, “We’re in the Money”, “Shuffle Off To Buffalo”, “Keep Young and Beautiful” and “I Only Have Eyes For You” as well as the title number.
Winner of BBC 2 Radio 2 Folk Awards’ Best Live Act in 2001, Vin Garbutt’s music is described as powerful, warm, humane, inspired and gut wrenchingly honest. With a career that has spanned over 40 years of constant worldwide touring, his songs are inspired by the folk tradition but have transformed into gritty social comment and life observations. Although renowned for his hilarious intros, it is the song lyrics that are the crux of his performance. With an honorary Degree of Master Of Arts awarded to Vin by Teeside University in 2001 for his music and services to the arts and culture of the North East of England, Vin Garbutt is the undisputed master of communicating with the audience.
Music by Harry Warren, Book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, Lyrics by Al Dubin, Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes, Direction and Dance by Gower Champion, Originally produced on Broadway by David Merrick, By arrangement with MUSICSCOPE and Stage Musicals of New York

Betrayal Monday 4 November 8pm
Andy Parsons
By Harold Pinter Emma is married to Robert, a publisher. But for seven years, she has been having an affair with Jerry, a literary agent and Robert’s best friend. Betrayal begins after the end of the affair, and pursues an intricate, gripping journey back to its very beginning. In a brilliant device, time is turned upside down as the play charts significant events in reverse. A ruthless exploration of the complexity of the human heart, Betrayal is Pinter’s most accessible work, enthralling and provocatively layered.
To date Andy has done three sell-out National tours and in 2009 released his debut DVD ‘Britain’s Got Idiots’, which was followed up by ‘Gruntled’ in 2011. Andy started in TV on Spitting Image becoming one of the main writers before embarking on a stand-up career which has led to such shows as Mock The Week and Live at the Apollo. This, his fourth show, is his favourite yet – come and get your dopamine fix.
