Cinderella

The Courtyard’s traditional annual pantomime this year is the classic rags to riches story with a happily ever after ending. Cinderella lives a sad life with her step mother and (ugly) step sisters – her muddled and confused father, Baron Hardup is powerless to intervene and her only comfort is her pal, Buttons! Prince Charming is holding a ball to meet the bride of his dreams – can this be the chance that Cinders has been waiting for?

In his new tour, stand up comic Lee Hurst is travelling throughout Britain to find out what really winds you up. Mostly people get on with living their lives, but everyone has at least one thing that pushes their button and sends them over the edge. What’s yours? Come along for a night of laughter and letting off some steam.

Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Jonzi D presents a triple bill, including his acclaimed solo The Letter, which debuted in 2012 at Sadler’s Wells’ Lilian Baylis Studio. The Letter explores the responses to Jonzi being offered an MBE. Using choreopoetic language, he paints a picture of “stunning rhythmical clarity” (The Stage), looking at this sensitive subject matter through the eyes of an animated cast of characters. The Letter is accompanied by a commissioned score played live by member of the Speakers Corner Quartet Kwake Bass.

366 Days of Kindness In response to the riots of August 2011, Bernadette Russell committed to be kind to a stranger every single day for a year. This multi-media show tells the heartbreaking, surprising and challenging stories of that year, which began with burning buildings and ended with the flame of the Olympic torch, against a global backdrop of social unrest and economic crisis. Year 11 – The Prince of Denmark by Michael Lesslie This play takes a look at the life of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark several years before Shakespeare’s play in which our tragic hero dreams of the future and we see surrealist scenes from the play itself unfold. What is real and what isn’t is never certain and our hopes and dreams are never quite what we hope for. This is a play in which all the vigour and energy of youth are never far from darker, more unpleasant circumstances, in which madness and suicide hang in the balance by the future.

Mike takes you through his family album, with stories of Liverpool life from childhood to entering showbiz, when because of Beatlemania, he had to change his name to ‘McGear’, becoming an integral part of the 60’s Merseybeat era. Find out how Scaffold subverted BBC Children’s TV! Hear how Rod Stewart and Freddie Starr woke Mike’s relatives and how Jimi Hendrix became Mike’s backing musician! See George Harrison pinch Joe Brown’s guitar! And why did Billy Connolly have to separate Mike from Michael Parkinson? All will be explained and several thousand more wonderful tales.

Hereford Art & Craft Society

Founded in 1922, the Herefordshire Art and Craft Society (commonly known as HACS) is an organisation for all makers living in Herefordshire. HACS has a policy of non-selection for joining members so that artists of different abilities are able to enjoy the public showing of their work alongside more experienced makers, finding that confidence and experience gained in this way feeds-back into practice. We have a policy of inclusivity to all. One of the society’s objectives is to invite those interested in the arts, especially those connected with Herefordshire, to exercise their patronage in support of the Society.

Adrian Higgins

Adrian Higgins is an artist with a wide-ranging practice which includes painting, digital illustration, photography and printmaking. His show at the Courtyard Centre for the Arts will include work produced in the last two years which explores and conveys stories that are often rooted in Herefordshire and the local community, some humorous, some more serious. Each work can be understood as discrete, but individual images often connect and extend the narrative. Overall Higgins’ work can be seen as a soap opera being played out with Herefordshire often used as the backdrop.
