REMEMBER ME An event during Dementia Awareness Week Thursday 22nd May 2014 Come along for a great day out!


Now in its third year, this fun filled day at The Courtyard aims to not only raise awareness about dementia; but to allow people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends to come together for an enjoyable day. The day will include a live drawing event, pop up poetry readings, singing, poetry and dance taster workshops, as well as special performances by The Courtyard’s Senior Youth Theatre. The Hereford Alzheimer’s Society and other local organisations will also be on hand to offer information and advice about the services available across Herefordshire for those with dementia, their families and carers. Singing for the Brain™ Taster Sessions

Find Your Feet

10.30am These stimulating and social singing sessions ran by the Alzheimer’s Society aim to enhance wellbeing and bring fun and confidence to those living with memory loss and their carers. No need to book, just turn up!

3.00pm – 3.30pm These taster sessions will give you an insight of what to expect on The Courtyard’s weekly Find Your Feet dance sessions designed for both people with dementia and their carers. Come along and try something new and enjoy gentle movement to music in a relaxed and social setting. Booking is essential. Tel: 01432 346535 Email: katrin.cross@courtyard.org.uk

All activities are free to attend, however some activities require booking. A map of The Courtyard will be provided on arrival indicating where all activities will be taking place.

Poetry Readings

Live Drawing Event

Stories on our Doorstep

10.00am – 4.00pm Come along at any point in the day and draw with our artists! This live drawing event is aimed at anyone who wants to get involved in drawing the biggest picture the Courtyard has created yet! Everyone is welcome, open to all ages and abilities; no need to book, come along at any point for a fun day of drawing.

1.30pm A selection of short monologues performed by The Courtyard’s Senior Youth Theatre, showcasing the real life, precious and unique stories of older people from across Herefordshire. Earlier this year students carried out interviews on this storytelling and reminiscence theatre project, havIng the opportunity to meet some fascinating people to create this performance piece. Poetry Booth 10.00am – 4.00pm Drop into The Courtyard’s poetry booth to have your very own personal poem created! Come and have a 15 minute one to one or small group session with one of our friendly poets. Whether you are living with dementia, or are an individual interested in the process our poets use, come along and see how this unique activity works. Book on the day at the poetry stand.

11.00am & 2.30pm Two pop up poetry readings by our expert poets. The fascinating and beautiful poetry which will be read has been created by older people living in residential or nursing care, as a part of our In the Pink poetry project. Much of the poetry has been created by people living with memory loss.

Taster Sessions

Information & Advice about Dementia 10.00am – 4.00pm The Hereford Alzheimer’s Society and other local organisations will be on hand to offer information and advice about the services available across Herefordshire for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

The Friday Club Exhibition Lower Canyon The Friday Club are pleased to be showcasing their works of art at The Courtyard’s lower canyon gallery. Members of the Alzheimer’s Society Day Centre have worked alongside artist Jeanette McCulloch to put together the selection of works that will be on show. These classes are supported through The Courtyard’s Arts and Older People Programme.


Getting Here There is limited pay and display parking available adjacent to The Courtyard off Penhaligon Way. Car parking enforcement is in operation. Please ensure you park within a designated bay and display a valid ticket. Both daytime and evening charges apply every day. Further public parking available a few minutes walk away at Merton Meadow and Garrick House. Please respect our neighbours and do not park in adjacent residential areas.
