Witches Can’t Be Burnt
WELCOME
Our autumn brochure has arrived, and I sincerely hope that you like the amazing season of exciting and uplifting shows we have coming up for you.
The 2024 Autumn Season closes our 25th Anniversary year and we can all be very proud of the fantastic achievements made by The Courtyard since it opened its door in September 1998. A lot has changed over the years, but our ethos remains the same; to put the community at the heart of everything we do. We create artistic excellence locally and nationally and build opportunities for all through participation, diversity and inclusion.
To end our exciting 25th Anniversary year we have launched our ‘Give The Green Light Appeal’. We want to bring vibrant energy to The Courtyard by replacing our existing tungsten lighting with 140 sleek, eco-friendly LED lights. Not only will this slash our electricity usage by 90% in these areas, but this will help us cut our carbon footprint by 9000Kg every year. Our project cost is £379,000 and we are reaching out to our incredible community to help us raise £25,000 of this. We have already raised £90,000 and have applied to grant funding trusts and foundations to help us in our endeavour. As we celebrate the end of our first 25 years in Herefordshire, we invite you to join us by donating £25 or more to the Appeal, find out more on page 44.
In 1998 the cherished dream for a new theatre and arts centre for Herefordshire became a reality. It is now a place that will live for many generations to come. The Courtyard excites and inspires and has become a centre for the whole community. We are now investing in the future of your arts centre to ensure that it remains in the heart of the community for many years to come. Please support our Appeal; online by visiting courtyard.org.uk/donate, in person at the Box Office, contactless donation points throughout The Courtyard or by cheque (payable to The Courtyard Trust). Don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation, if you can.
Thank you for all your support. We couldn’t do it without you!
Very best wishes,

This is not a musical. Milton Jones is tone deaf and has no sense of rhythm, but at least he doesn’t make a song and dance about it. He has more important things to discuss. Like giraffes…and there’s a bit about tomatoes. You might know him from Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo or Radio 4. Or that time he stood for the Scottish National Party, fought a hard campaign, but in the end had to respect the wishes of the people of Cardiff. A whole new show of daftness. You know it makes sense.

Crown Ballet returns to enchant you with two delightful productions...
Swan Lake is one of Tchaikovsky’s best works, featuring some of ballet’s most memorable music. It is the compelling legend of a tragic romance in which a princess, Odette, is turned into a swan by an evil curse.
The Nutcracker is a charming fairy tale and one of the jewels of Tchaikovsky’s repertoire. Prepare to enter a magical new world – the nutcracker in this ballet may be a handsome prince in disguise.
Both wonderful evenings out creating memories you will cherish long after the final curtain falls!

TouchFreeTour 10am
William’s school report is not good. But his piano tricks are so impressive, his teachers have picked him to play at the prestigious concert for Mozart’s birthday celebrations. Trouble is, he only does tricks. Mozart, via the blues, tango and rock’n’roll (and a roll of gaffer tape). A chase through Salzburg. A moonlit haunted house. Enter Mozart, to swap genius wisdom for a glimpse of the future. Ages 6+.

Philip Huckin
Philip Huckin has exhibited widely in English and Welsh galleries. Central to his work is the Ceredigion landscape, the mountains, hills and coastline, which are a constant source of inspiration. Here natural and man-made boundaries define the landscape: the field lines, trees, hedgerows and banks; the river valleys cutting and winding their way through the landscape; the boundary between the uplands and pastoral landscape below; and the farmsteads, settlements and ruins that point to Ceredigion’s deep historical and cultural past.

NEW CHANGING PLACES FACILITIES
Did you know that over a 1/4 million people in the UK need Changing Places Toilets to enable them to get out and about and enjoy the day-to-day activities which many of us take for granted. Herefordshire was one of six regional councils to be awarded money by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to install Changing Places Toilets (CPTs). This funding has enabled three CPT’s to be built and fitted with specialist equipment here at The Courtyard, at Aspire Living’s community hub and at Maylord Orchards shopping centre.
There are now over 2,300 registered Changings Places in the UK, and we are proud to be one of them, making our venue much more inclusive. The facility will be open from 8am-10pm MondaySaturday to those with a radar key. A radar key can also be obtained from Box Office during opening hours. For more information please visit changing-places.org
In February 2024, we opened a Changing Places Facility at The Courtyard, located opposite the rear entrance. CPT’s have much larger care spaces, with toilets that are equipped with specialist healthcare equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench, a peninsular toilet and a celling hoist, to allow them to use the toilet in safety, comfort and with dignity.
courtyard.org.uk/donate
We want to bring vibrant energy to The Courtyard with 140 sleek, eco-friendly LED lights with endless possibilities for creative lighting design. From soft hues to bold colours in all three of our performance spaces, we hope to raise the necessary funds for installation in August 2025.
Converting to LEDs will slash our electricity usage by 90% across the performance spaces, cutting our carbon footprint by 9,000kg yearly. The financial savings mean more resources for our community education and outreach programme. We’ve been on a mission to go green for the past decade - championing initiatives from recycling to solar PV panels on our roof - to move closer to our net zero emissions goal by 2035. Your donation isn’t just a contribution; it’s an investment in a brighter, greener future for our community and beyond. Together, let’s light up The Courtyard and our world with possibility.
We invite you to join us by donating £25 or more to the appeal to reach our £25,000 target. You can also support with the purchase of a light from our shopping list here:
