LOVE YOUR GUT
Chempro Sanctuary Cove’s Donay Taylor has some great advice for improving your gut health.
“2021 WAS ANOTHER GREAT YEAR for us at the Sanctuary Cove Chempro Pharmacy,” says owner and pharmacist Donay Taylor.
“We relocated to our new premises, allowing us to expand our range and to stock some great specialty vitamins and supplements.
“The team has seen a great interest in the area of gut health and supplements to support and improve symptoms such as bloating and acid reflux,” she says.
Gut health can play a very important role in both our physical and mental health.
Poor diets, excessive alcohol, stress, antibiotics, and other medication can negatively impact your gut health.
There has been a lot of research into gut health and how it can play a role in other diseases such as obesity, diabetes, anxiety, and cancer.
The good news is lifestyle and dietary modifications can make a big difference.
Focusing on eating real, whole foods and avoiding processed foods that are high in refined sugar can be beneficial.
Other helpful lifestyle modifications include eating smaller meals and eating dinner earlier in the evening, as well as reducing alcohol intake, exercising regularly, and managing stress.
Eating a diet high in fibre is very important to allow the good bacteria in your gut thrive.
These include vegetables such as carrots, beets, and broccoli, fruits such as strawberries and pears as well as chia seeds and avocado.
There are many supplements available which can also help improve your gut health, such as prebiotics, probiotics, digestive enzymes, magnesium, and slippery elm.
Collagen powder is another great supplement which can help ‘heal and seal’ the gut and provide essential amino acids to rebuild and strengthen the lining of the digestive system.
“Our team can help find the most appropriate supplement to suit your needs,” says Donay.
Chempro Sanctuary Cove are also excited to announce a collaboration with resident Functional Physiotherapist Victoria Parnaby.
Victoria is a well known and loved member of the community who has worked from her room in the Country Club for over 20 years.
She has a double degree in Physiotherapy and Sports Science and is extremely passionate about all things health and well-being.
Victoria focuses on getting to the root of the problem via the four strategic pillars of health, Diet, Movement, Stress, and Sleep.
Underlying all those pillars is Gut Health.
Hippocrates knew it hundreds of years ago when he said ‘All disease starts in the gut’ and we are only just now scratching the surface of its importance in all other aspects of health.
Victoria will look at chronic health conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, weight gain, energy and mood swings as well as skin problems through a Functional Health lens, giving you fresh and practical options for healing and improving your quality of life. chempro.com.au
