Welcome to the Four Cornerstones of Covenant Athletics, which were designed by our former Athletic Director Brooks Berry. Our Cornerstones contain the guidelines for our coaches, teams, and athletes to adopt as we strive toward athletic excellence under the sovereignty of God. Covenant Athletics doesn’t just measure success by championships, athletic scholarships, and winning records; rather, we are continually at work to define success and pursue unity through servantleadership, persistence, and gratitude. The four cornerstones set the foundation for Covenant athletics to narrate our values and provide counter-cultural measures of success. Our athletic cornerstones—Focus, Passion, Path, Legacy—encourage our staff, coaches, and student-athletes to consider:
Who do you serve? What defines you? Where are you going? How will you impact others? These cornerstones, when paired with our academic mission, translate into strong leaders, effective coaches, and committed teams. We are positioned for success and I look forward to the bright future ahead for our student-athletes. Go Eagles! Sincerely,
Clark Walker, Athletic Director
FOCUS
"The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." Matthew 23:11-12
Who Do You Serve? We focus on others above self
We nurture the habit of servant leadership We utilize our talents as gifts for God, our ultimate focus
PASSION
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
What Defines You?
Our passions are motivated by love of the game and role on the team We are defined by who we are, not what we do We compete in freedom because of our known identity
PATH
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.’” Jeremiah 6:16
Where Are You Going? We reach our capabilities through hard work and determination We understand that the road to success is not without failure We have faith in His path for us
LEGACY
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
How Will You Impact Others? We are grateful for the wisdom of those who came before us We understand that our actions impact others We recognize that we all leave a legacy
