Plot Summary The Ghost Riders of Ordebec is the seventh novel in the Commissaire Adamsberg series by author Fred Vargas. A woman has been standing outside the police headquarters in blazing sunshine. She wishes to report the disappearance of a hated local after her daughter had visions of the legendary Ghost Riders, a band of vigilantes who rid the area of Orderbec of nefarious characters since the Middle Ages. My Review Once again Fred Vargas serves up an enjoyable murder mystery that has a borderline fantasy leaning. But once again it is not a fantasy novel and it soon snaps back into a modern day reality. I found the characters to be much better than in the previous novel and enjoyed reading it a lot more, perhaps because I knew what to expect more this time. Adamsberg is on fine form, despite the multiple cases he has to juggle, and still manages to see through it all. The supporting characters are good too including the wine drinking Danglard. It is a relatively long book and there are period where the only thing that seems to happen is people getting killed off but it is well worth sticking with. It becomes a tale of family feuds and even though the book seems rooted in a historical leaning the motives are all too modern.
