The Crypt School Physical Education GCSE PE Programme of Study (POS) 2020-22 GCSE PE Vision Develop theoretical knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport; preparing them for higher education and allowing students to flourish within the vast opportunities available in the sports industry. Understand the physiological and psychological effects of exercise, encouraging students to analyse, evaluate and apply their knowledge to practical performances. Alongside gaining a deep understanding of the key socio-cultural factors that influence people’s involvement in physical activity and sport. The Programme of Study is based on the delivery of 2 hours a week on Paper 1 and then 2 hours a week on Paper 2 throughout Year 10. There is a different member of staff delivering Paper 1 and Paper 2 in Year 10. In Year 11, each class/set has one member of staff delivering the final topics of each paper as well as completing NEA Practical Assessments as well as exam preparation and revision. Students are able to present and understand data such as energy equations, spirometer traces and cardiac output which will reflect their knowledge, understanding and are able to draw conclusions of the data. GCSE PE NEA – Practical Assessment

As part of GCSE PE, students will be assessed in 3 practical activities (2 team & 1 individual or 2 individual & 1 team) Each GCSE PE class has one practical lesson across the two-week timetable which will support the practical side of the course as well as creating an opportunity for to informally assess students. Practical assessments will also take place in games and formal assessments will be scheduled accordingly outside of lessons. NEA Coursework also contributes 25 marks to overall NEA Mark which is carried out within lessons as detailed above (T6 of Year 10 & T3 of Year 11) Focus on each specific skill, tactical awareness & overall performance – in line with GCSE Badminton specification. Badminton Informal assessment carried out for those considering using Badminton as one of their three sports. Focus on each specific skill, tactical awareness & overall performance – in line with GCSE Handball specification. Handball Informal assessment carried out for those considering using Badminton as one of their three sports. Depending on students’ practical choices, the practical lesson in Year 11 is used to refine assessments and help support students ahead of formal assessments for each sport. The focus of each practical lesson may change depending on the group and teacher’s choice.
