The Cuff The Cuff newspaper is a preliminary handbook designed to provide

arrestees and their families information about the arrest, incarceration, and judicial processes. The Cuff presents information in a clear, readable style to help those affected deal with an arrest. The Cuff discusses issues from bail to vehicle impoundment, public defenders to Protection Orders, and what to expect if “you are going to jail.” The Cuff is custom-designed for your facility. It details your protocols and procedures, provides information about community services, and is written by experienced journalists and professionals from your community. The Cuff includes articles and information your command staff feels important, and is produced at no charge in any quantity they feel necessary. (The Cuff also has a Spanish section.) Size: 11x13 inches

The Cuff (Laminated) A reduced version of The Cuff for intake areas that prefer not to hand out the full version of The Cuff, but would like more information that the “How to get out of Jail” handbook provides. The abridged version of The Cuff is covered in a heavy duty clear laminate which can be scored for easy folding, or flat 2-sided for a “placemat” style for tables. (Available in Spanish.) Size: 11 x 13 inches

Handbook for Jail Inmates This is a handbook for jail inmates, customized for your jail, with jail rules and responsibilities, plus information on visitation, health care, work details and much more. It clearly spells out your expectations regarding prisoner behavior. The Handbook for Inmates allows staff to standardize responses to inmate questions and helps relieve inmate anxiety about their living conditions. Included in the handbook are advertisements and listings for local bail bondsmen and attorneys, as well as information on community services of interest to prisoners and their families. Size: 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches

About the MED Grant: The Margaret Eleanor Duplessis Grant is designed to provide communication tools for law enforcement and to establish a continuous self-funding mechanism to insure the continued development of informational resources for detention centers nationwide. The MED grant funds the development of guides and

handbooks designed to inform arrestees and their families about the arrest, incarceration, and judicial processes. It also funds the customization of these publications to a specific facility, such as its geographic location, protocols and special topics that its command staff feels are important.

DUI Handbook The DUI Handbook provides information about the impact of being arrested for a DUI. It includes DMV requirements to maintain driving privileges as well as potential criminal and civil penalties and fines. It is not a booklet about” beating” a DUI citation, but rather about what to do and expect throughout the criminal and civil processes. Size: 5x7 inches

Bail Bondsmen Referral Card Randomly lists the name and number of every bail bondsman serving the jail. Arrestees can look up bail bondsmen by name and call their posted number, or dial one number (located at the top of the list) to be directed to the next bail bondsmen in the queue. Lists are laminated for placement near phones. The Bail Bond Management System is fair and equitable. It eliminates duplication of bail bond company listings and presents licensed bail agents in a rotational format, guaranteeing each agent a fair business opportunity. Lists are published and maintained by The Cuff and distributed on a cycle determined by your staff. Size: 8 1/2 x 11 inches

Getting Out Of Jail Handbook

Protection Orders/ Domestic Violence Handbook

Distributed by field officers making arrests. Given to family and friends, the handbook describes the steps of being arrested through booking and arraignment. Jail information numbers and addresses are included, as well as the bail bond process and how to work with a bail bondsman. Some jails provide this handbook to all arrestees to facilitate processing and reduce anxiety levels. Knowing what is coming and the procedure that leads to “getting out” eliminates questions and standardizes information given out by detention personnel. (Available in Spanish.)

Gives arrestees important and necessary information about a complicated and confusing judicial order. Most defendants do not know all the restrictions of a Protection Order and how to avoid being re-arrested. The booklet clearly describes things a person can and can’t do when restrained, and how to avoid jail and still take care of necessities.

Applying for a MED Grant: Most law enforcement groups that “book” offenders through a local detention facility qualify for some type of MED Grant. Application is easy. Just fill out and return the enclosed response form on the back page. A MED Grant Administrator will contact you and handle all the details. Custom

Arrestees will have necessary instructions about conflicts such as both parties at the same workplace, school or dormitory mates, and tourists traveling together with adjoining airline seats. Most Protection Orders will be modified if the affected parties know what to ask!

designed publications for your facility can be available for distribution in just ninety (90) days. Every qualifying facility must assign a liaison officer, guarantee distribution to all offenders and their families, and subscribe to a sponsorship program.

What is The Cuff, and why is it giving free publications to jails?

We are part of The Local, a Steamboat Springs, Colorado-based newspaper. We administer a special grant (MED Grant, www.medgrant.com) which is designed to provide law enforcement with informational resources at no or negative costs to them. Our newspaper has a staff of writers and artists who insure your materials are customized, attractive, informative, and readable by a general audience.

Jail Officials! Get customized Jail Inmate Orientation Newspapers, Handbooks, Brochures plus laminated Bail Bondsmen Cards at NO COST to your facility!

Why do you create these publications?

We are aware of the difficult job that jail administrators perform. They are part of law enforcement and the judicial system, working in an intense and sometimes dangerous field. By providing information at no cost to the jail, we save administrators time by answering common inmate questions and relieving inmate anxiety. We provide a service to inmates and their families who may be navigating the judicial system for the first time. We help bondsmen and attorneys promote their businesses, and earn back our costs for printing. All the while we help your jail save time and money by passing these responsibilities on to us.
