FLINT STRONG
Women Moving Flint Forward Despite the many challenges the community has faced, there are those that have remained standing, picked up their shovels, and continued to plant and build. In this issue, we are honoring some of those women who are making a difference.

Dawn Jones News Anchor, ABC12 News - Flint
Keeping Flint Informed Flint is my hometown. I was born here; raised here. I am Flint. It is a community that I know intimately and as a news anchor I am honored to be a trusted source for telling the stories of our challenges and triumphs. An informed community is the best community. Flint is strong and proud and I’m here to share her ever evolving story. “Flint’s history is rich and storied and its future is promising because the city’s glory rises above its grit”
Courtney Simone Wheaton Morning Reporter NBC25/FOX66
Keeping Flint Woke As a journalist, I choose to use my platform to show that Flint is more than a water crisis. I highlight the amazing number of artists, entrepreneurs and social activists taking the city to new heights. In addition to reporting the news, I’m involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Genesee County. I hope to inspire a new generation of Flintstones to reach their fullest potential. I’m thrilled at the progress I see and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Flint. “Telling Flint’s Story Through A New Lens.”
Danielle Green CEO-Director of Empower
Creating Children’s Books One of the things that I’m very passionate about is literacy. As an educator I see children struggle with the fundamental skill needed to succeed. I created a multi-cultured 7 book children’s series titled the “Hey Girl” Collection designed to make kids fall in love with reading. All 7 books provide readers with life lessons of a lifetime taught by characters that look like them. “Falling in Love with Reading Will Change Children’s Lives Forever .”
“Flint Is Still the Vehicle City. Our Vehicle Is Persistence.”
Corinthian Carouthers - Owner Creative Hair School of Cosmetology Inc.
Educating Flint Stylists I educate and motivate men and women who want a career in the beauty industry. My passion is for everyone attending my programs to learn to become entrepreneurs and beauty professionals. Economic growth is built on small businesses such as beauty salons and barber shops. My desire is to see Flint thrive off small businesses with professional people who are willing to commit, dedicate and reinvest in their communities. “My desire is to see Flint thrive”
Pastor Tonya C. Bailey Pastor & VP of PAPAS, Inc. Angela Stamps Founder/ Program Coordinator
Biking For Flint Starting Kentakee Athletic & Social Clubs nonprofit has not been easy. I have had to perform so many roles. With a mission “to provide teenage athletic & educational activities in underserved regions” we have carved out our own lane with our bicycle programs. We hope that our kids will become more active and embrace bicycling as a lifestyle. “We Hope to Expose Kids to Different Experiences.”
Moving Flint to Greatness Vice President of Operations of P.A.P.A.S. (Pick A Place And Start), a non-profit organization with various programming and services for Flint and Genesee County communities. I founded the “WIP” Movement and host an annual Women In Power Summit that brings hundreds of women and young girls together to equip, educate and empower. Mayor Karen Weaver
I AM A FLINTSTONE THROUGH AND THROUGH I am a Flintstone through and through. Before I was Mayor, I was a resident. We had a crisis and we needed strong leadership willing to listen to residents in order to come out much stronger than before. I will continue to advocate not only for Flint and its residents, but for safe infrastructure around the country. The City of Flint has a long way to go, but we remain solid and have made some major improvements. Before the crisis we did not have anyone at the table talking about health in all policies, we now have a Chief Public Health Advisor. We lacked a department that could help build jobs and our local economy, we now have an Economic Development Department. We were concerned about public safety and housing, we have two HUD grants in place that will address both of those issues. I am proud to say that crime and unemployment have decreased and even in this difficult time, trust and respect for local government is improving. With the help of resident input, I will, we will, continue to move Flint Forward and show the nation how strong, resilient and beautiful our town really is.

Keeping Flint Empowered
Expanding Flint’s Network
I am literally all things family. Every position I hold, workshops, community projects, speaking engagements - are all to demonstrate how precious children and family are. I am the initial contact for Atherton East residents. I make sure every family feels safe, informed and empowered throughout the entire process.
My efforts to move Flint forward have continued beyond our “Filters for Flint” event (initial fundraising campaign in the Washington DC area to raise 10k) to include mentoring Flint students. While I believe mentorship is essential, it is critical for the youth of Flint to be connected to positive adults.
”I am grateful for the beautiful ministry of love that God has placed deep in our hearts.”
“It is important to continue the legacy of giving back wherever you are.”

Developing Flint Businesses
KRISTINA JOHNSTON / GROUP VICE PRESIDENT
The Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce is uniquely positioned to support business growth, talent development, and promotion of the community and all its assets, in and outside of the area. In my position overseeing Economic Development, Education & Training, and Grants and Development, I am privileged to help connect people to jobs and businesses to the community. It’s important to me that while we work to create and attract jobs, we never lose sight of the quality of those jobs. Also important is that we work in strategic partnerships to remove barriers to employment for individuals that struggle to engage in the economy. I thrive on facilitating collaboration and operate under the idea to have good partners, you must be a good partner. Flint and Genesee County is vibrant. We have amazing neighborhoods, diverse entertainment experiences, high quality educational institutions, plentiful jobs, and most importantly great people. Beyond what we already have, though, is the potential for even more. It is our responsibility to always strive for more and better jobs, opportunities for our residents and to be an example for other communities. Communities can accomplish these feats when they are moving together in the same direction toward prosperity. Maximizing today’s investments in youth and families, communities, and business support systems will be the reason people want to stay here, come back here, and move here and that will propel us forward.
