Special Needs

Programs and facilities of the Parks, Recreation and Forestry department are available to all persons interested in making use of them. Special needs which require adaptations will be reviewed upon request.

Scholarships Available:

* If the fees are too high to fit your budget, talk to Kevin DeVries, Todd Cavanaugh or Jamie Henkel and arrangements will be made for your child’s participation.

** All scholarships MUST be set up at the Rec Center -you can set up your account at home, then stop in to show Notice of Action Letter from Social Services and we will set you up for a 50% scholarship for programs. Scholarships also apply to Aquatic Center memberships, but are not at the 25% level.

***If you set up a scholarship last year you must come in and set up another one for this year.

Weather Policy

Outdoor programs will be canceled if weather conditions create a potential hazard for participants. Such conditions include heavy rain, wet field conditions, tornado warnings, lightning, or excessive heat combined with high humidity. Listen to KORN, Q107, KMIT, or Thomas radio stations for announcements, check our website, or call cancellation hotline at 990-6740!

Palace Transit Can Help!

Buses are available for transportation to and from the Parks & Recreation programs. Price is $2.00 for a one-way Monday thru Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm and $3.00 one-way evenings and weekends. All rides must be scheduled by 4:00 pm the day before (Monday rides must be scheduled by Friday at 4:00 pm). Curb-to-curb service and wheelchair accessible. To make arrangements, call 995-8440.

BOYS’ BASEBALL 2023 GIRLS’ SOFTBALL 2023

Park & Rec Baseball will be structured differently this summer. In order to align with youth baseball statewide, we will be offering three levels including 8U, 10U & 12U.

The program will be under the direction of DWU Baseball Coach Charlie Dubanoski, his coaches and players.

8U BASEBALL:

Completed Kindergarten - 8 yrs as of January 1st. Skills, drills and scrimmages make this 7 weeks a fun intro to baseball. Each group will meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays for 1 hour each day between 9:00 am - Noon. Groups will meet at Cadwell Fields D, E, F, G. Teams will be formed prior to games beginning. Program runs June 6 - July 20. Players will need their own gloves. Uniform shirts will be provided.

Join DWU Coach Tommy Downs along with his players as they direct the instruction of the Summer Softball program. Girls will be classified into three age groups of 8U, 10U & 12U. The season will consist of four weeks of instruction, followed by 3 weeks of games. Equal teams will be formed prior to games beginning.

Particpants will need to be able to ride a bike and provide their own bike and helmet.

Under the guidance of Joan Lubben from Palace City Pedalers, riders will be introduced to the fun of biking single track trails. This program will reinforce biking safety & proper riding technique while exploring the numerous trails around Lake Mitchell. The program will run on Monday afternoons in July. Participants will at and return to different trail heads at various locations on the lake.

Plant a few seeds, and it will grow on you! Come and learn the secret behind how a plant grows. Children who garden have shown an increased level of responsibility, self-awareness, and a higher likelihood to eat healthy foods including fruits and vegetables. After learning about plant characteristics, participants will:

The Mitchell Rec Center has been working to develop more usable space for our members, and we finally have it! The MPR is a bright, open area full of a huge variety of fitness equipment! We have just added a stair-master to the room to complete the most versatile room in the area! Bring your canine friend to the Mitchell Dog Park! The dog park is located on the south end of Cadwell Park and features a 2.3 acre area for large dogs and a .85 acre area for small dogs. Please clean up & be responsible for your pet.
