Board of Parks & Recreation

A Department of the City of Mitchell Mayor Bob Everson The Board of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry is appointed by the Mayor. The Board meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at the City Council Chambers. Members of the Board are: Chris Retterath, Mary Ellen Jepsen, Andy Jerke, Pat Skinner, Luke Norden, Shawn Erickson. The public is encouraged to attend!

Special Needs

Programs and facilities of the Parks, Recreation and

Forestry department are available to all persons interested in making use of them. Special needs which require adaptations will be reviewed upon request.

K.O.R.N. RADIO “LET’S TALK!” SHOW

The Talk of the Town!!

Each Thursday at 8:30 am on KORN Radio, every other Tuesday on KMIT at 8:10 am, and every other Wednesday on Q107 at 9:40 am tune in to the “Let’s Talk” Show with Parks & Recreation. Be “in the know” – listen for program updates and details.

Transportation a Problem?

Palace Transit Can Help!

Buses are available for transportation to and from the Parks & Recreation programs. Price is $2.00 for a one-way Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm and $3.00 one-way evenings and weekends. All rides must be scheduled by 4:00 pm the day before (Monday rides must be scheduled by Friday at 4:00 pm). Curb-to-curb service and wheelchair accessible. To make arrangements, call 995-8440.

Weather Policy

Outdoor programs will be canceled if weather conditions create a potential hazard for participants. Such conditions include heavy rain, wet field conditions, tornado warnings, lightning, or excessive heat combined with high humidity. Listen to KORN, Q107, KMIT, or Thomas radio stations for announcements, check our website, or call cancellation hotline at 990-6740!

Scholarships Available:

* If the fees are too high to fit your budget, talk to Kevin DeVries, Todd Cavanaugh, or Jamie Henkel and arrangements will be made for your child’s participation. Families with a notice of action letter will qualify for a discount.

** All scholarships MUST be set up at the Rec Center — you can set up your account at home, then stop in to show your notice of action letter and we will set you up for a 50% scholarship for programs. Scholarships also apply to Aquatic Center memberships but are not at the 50% level.

***If you set up a scholarship last year you must come in and set up another one for this year.
