Who’s Opening and Where Macy’s, Inc. (513-579-7000) will open a three-story 160,000 sq.ft. Macy’s department store at Mall at Bay Plaza, a project currently under development as an expansion of Bay Plaza Shopping Center, located at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Hutchinson Parkway in Bronx, NY. The store, which is slated to open during spring 2014, will join JCPenney at the site and will be the company’s 30th location in the New York, NY metropolitan area. Construction on the project itself is slated to begin during the spring with an opening projected for 2013 or 2014. The company also plans to open a 103,000 sq.ft. Macy’s store in a former Gottschalks at The Mall of Victor Valley, a 544,000 sq.ft. center located in Victorville, CA. The store is slated to open during mid2013 and will join Bath & Body Works, Vans, The Children’s Place, Victoria’s Secret, Barnes & Noble and Cinemark Theatre at the center. The opening will be the company’s 11th in the area. The company also plans to open a two-level, 200,000 sq.ft. Macy’s at Westfield South Shore, located in Bay Shore, NY. The store will replace an existing, larger Macy’s at the center which is slated for demolition during March. The new store is slated to open during fall 2013. The company currently operates 850 locations nationwide throughout 45 states and Washington, DC, as well as Guam and Puerto Rico, trading as Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bloomingdale’s Outlet. Both units are currently under construction with openings projected for the fall. Wawa, Inc. (610-358-8000) will open a 5,000 sq.ft. Wawa convenience store at the intersection of International Drive and Central Florida Parkway in Orlando, FL. The opening will be the company’s first in the state and is slated for July. The company will also open additional locations in FL next year, as part of a plan to open 100 stores throughout the Orlando area during the coming five years. Planned openings include stores at the intersection of Hoffner Avenue and South Goldenrod Road and at the intersection of John Young Parkway and Silver Star Road in Orlando; a location at the intersection of U.S. Highway 192 and Simpson Road in Kissimmee, and sites along Orange Blossom Trail and along East Donegan Avenue in Kissimmee. The company currently operates more than 580 locations throughout DE, MD, NJ, PA and VA. Ascena Retail Group, Inc. (800-3737722) will open a dressbarn apparel store at Destiny USA, a 1.4-million sq.ft. expansion of Carousel Center Mall, located in Syracuse, NY, this spring. The opening will be the company’s third in the Syracuse area. Boundless Enterprises, LLC (402-614-1723) plans to open more than 20 Scooter’s Coffeehouse and Yoji Frozen Yogurt cobranded locations nationwide, as part of a plan to open 1,000 stores nationwide within the coming 10 years. The company recently opened a co-branded location for the two concepts at Merle Hay Mall, located in Des Moines, IA, during November.
