Who’s Opening and Where Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) plans to open a Kohl’s department store in a former Value City site located along Route 2 South in Parole, MD. The store is slated to open later this month. The company is also planning to open a store in Middle River, MD in the coming months. The company currently operates 1,059 units nationwide throughout 49 states. New York & Co, Inc. (212-884-2000) plans to open between 20 and 25 New York & Co. Outlet stores during its 2010 fiscal year. The company had been testing the concept in select locations throughout 2009. The company currently operates 580 stores, offering fashion-oriented moderately-priced branded women’s apparel nationwide throughout 44 states. Gamer Doc (949-370-2075), through a franchisee, will open a store in Katy, TX during August. Through a separate franchisee, the company opened a store in Huntsville, AL earlier this month. The stores offer new and used video games available for purchase or rental and feature a Pro Player room equipped with HD monitors available for rent for private parties.
Apple, Inc. (408-996-1010) plans to open a store in the Uptown area of Minneapolis, MN. The company may occupy a portion of a former restaurant space along Hennepin Avenue South, joining Columbia Sportswear at the site when the outdoor apparel retailer opens next month. Best Buy Co., Inc. (612-291-1000) will open a Best Buy in a former Goody’s site at Towne South Plaza, located in Terre Haute, IN. The site is currently undergoing renovations to make the facility more “green,” with construction slated to be completed by May. The tenant will join Gander Mountain and PetSmart at the center. The Gymboree Corp. (415-278-7000) plans to open a Crazy 8 children’s clothing store in a former Lady Footlocker site at Coral Ridge Mall, located in Coralville, IA. Construction on the site began last month, and the clothing store, offering apparel for older children, will open within the year. The company currently trades as Gymboree at 600 stores nationwide, Crazy 8 at 37 stores nationwide, Janie and Jack at 110 units nationwide and as Gymboree Outlet at 112 stores nationwide.
Cheddar’s Casual Café, Inc. (214-596-6700) plans to open a Cheddar’s Casual Café in Roanoke, VA during October as part of a plan to open between 10 to 12 restaurants this year. The company will open a 7,918 sq.ft. freestanding restaurant in an outlot of Valley View Mall. The company opened 16 restaurants last year. The opening will be the company’s second in the state, with the restaurant joining an existing site in Newport News, VA. Golfsmith International Holdings, Inc. (512837-4810) will open four Golfsmith stores this year. The company currently operates 72 stores, offering golf equipment and apparel, nationwide. Dunkin’ Brands, Inc.
