Who’s Opening and Where Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (479-273-4000) will open Wal*Mart locations this fall in Morgan Hill, CA and along East Southern Avenue in Tempe, AZ. The company is also remodeling existing stores to a new format including a redesigned store layout aligning heavilytrafficked departments, low-profile shelving, wider aisles, refreshed interior paint and enhanced lighting and signage. The redesign also includes an expanded electronics department and a Celebration Station department, featuring party supplies, greeting cards, balloons and helium tanks, cake supplies and gift wrap. The company expects to remodel as many as 18 stores this year. Saks, Inc. Tasti D-Lite location along West End Avenue in Nashville, TN as part of a plan to open 16 frozen dessert parlors throughout central TN and will also open a location in Los Angeles, CA during the next year. The company plans to operate 70 of the frozen dessert parlors, offering low-calorie items in more than 100 flavors, by year’s end, with growth taking place in FL, NJ, NY and TX as well as throughout Mexico and South Korea. Projections call for 500 locations to be operating within five years’ time. Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (704-847-6961) plans to open Family Dollar locations nationwide during the next several years, having opened 26 locations during its third quarter. The company is currently revising its floorplans and infrastructure to provide more space for an expanded food department and to support new payment options including credit cards and food stamps. The company has implemented the changes to 1,500 locations and may convert 40% of the remaining stores during the fourth quarter. The company currently operates 6,700 units nationwide.

Coral Square Shoppes 3006 South US Highway 1, Ft. Pierce, Florida, 34982 Phase 1 Under Construction Anchored by Save-A-Lot
Tulepan Management LLC has started construction of Phase 1 of Coral Square Shoppes, a 182,000sf retail center situated on 17 acres on S. US 1 and Edwards Road in Fort Pierce. Phase 1 will be anchored by a 17,000sf SAVE-A-LOT Food Store and 25,000sf of retail space in two buildings. When completed, the project will consist of retail, restaurant, entertainment and office components. Financing for Phase 1 of the project is being provided by the City of Fort Pierce, in conjunction with the Federal Government’s HUD 108 Loan Program. The project was the first if its kind in the City of Fort Pierce to receive official “Brownfield” designation and was subsequently awarded a Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Brownfield Economic Development Initiative, which is co-sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The architect for the project is Kenneth McGee PA, and the general contractor is Kast Construction.
