REBIRTH
VISION The residents of Kearny will experience improvement from the long term environmental restoration practices and hazard mitigation that will enhance the quality of life and strengthen their sense of community.
GOALS 1. Prevent wildfires 2. Protect and improve the existing economy 3. Promote access & connectivity 4. Produce a native ecosystem 5. Provide flood control strategies

Old river form This diagram illustrates flood patterns prior to any human disruption of the land.
CURRENT HYDROLOGY
Existing development
Air strip
Pressure points created by mountain washes intersecting river
Flood patterns created as a result of the development and air strip. Mountains & air strip create high water flow speeds causing water to drain back into golf course & development when washes intersect river during flood events.

The overlap of analysis diagrams deliniated the most sensitive areas around the town; information which was used to select the most suitable areas for flood control solutions & restoration of native vegetation in areas overtaken by tamarisk trees.
