GENDER-BASED TOILET

The toilet taboo is a widespread Western phenomenon – especially for a date. Although everyone goes to toilet and experiences poop, no one would like to ruin the romantic atmosphere because of the improper smell and sound, even if give up to answer their natural call.

What can I do? ......

Current toilet design only focuses on people’s physical needs, but does not concern the user’s emotional experience. When male and female share one bathroom, there are some embarrassing things that affect the use experience. The challenge is how to design a toilet that can eliminate these embarrassments, and build a physical-emotional comfort balance between both male and female.

A gender-based toilet is proposed that can bring a personal and enjoyable experience, as well as improve social confidence. To accommodate the different positions of use, the toilet structure will be transformable. It will have an embedded exhaust system combined with ozone generator and fountain circulating water system to generate sounds to solve the smell and sound embarrassment issues. The toilet will also generate bubbles with aroma to mask sounds and create an enjoyable atmosphere. The toilet will have a self-cleaning lid & seat to solve the hygiene problem and bring reassurance to people.

User Outdated Payment Technology

As of 2017 more than 1 in 3 American workers are millennials, by 2020 nearly half of the US workforce will be comprised of millennials. Millennials tend to have specific wants and needs; these young professionals are health conscious and willing to spend more money on healthier foods. But they are busier than ever in these current economic times trying to juggle their school debt, career, health, weight, finances, and social life. They may not have time to grocery shop and prepare meals throughout the week. They also may not be able to take long breaks during the work week to eat out for lunch, so their diet suffers. They can grab quick meals from fast food restaurants near their offices, but this isn’t good for their health and they will grow tired of the same meals each week. They can also grab quick snacks from convenient stores or vending machines near their office, but the selection of fresh, healthy food is always lacking, so they run in to the same issues. What if we could satisfy the needs of this huge population of American workers by bringing freshly prepared, tasty meals directly to their offices with the same convenience as a vending machine? With the latest business acquisition of Whole Foods Market by Amazon, this opportunity is possible. With an entire fleet of Amazon prime delivery vehicles, multiple deliveries of freshly made meals can be delivered throughout the day. These meals would be prepared at the closest Whole Foods Market and then delivered to “Whole Foods Vending Machines” which would be located in offices throughout the city. All customer interaction would be handled by their Amazon Prime Account on the Amazon website or the mobile application; such as checking the daily menu, deliveries, or making transactions.

Amazon Prime will act as the interface for the customers: transactions will be managed by the payment source set up on the customers’ prime account, customers will be able to view daily menus of the machines nearby, customers will use the mobile to unlock the machines and gain access to the meals, and customers will receive order confirmations and have the ability to review their transaction history.

At a cost of $0.07 per RFID Tag, every package would contain a label with an RFID tag; this would allow the vending machine to operate without any human supervision. Every package will be accounted for and the transaction will be processed automatically once the customer pulls the package out from the machine and closes the door to complete the transaction.

Glass doors are encased in a steel frame and secured by an electromagnetic lock. As the customer scans their unique QR code, the power to the electromagnet shuts off and the door is able to hinge open. Once the user is finished, they must close the door to complete their transaction. As the door is closed, the electromagnet is powered back on and the door is locked.

Multiple deliveries throughout the day is possible thanks to the large fleet of Amazon Fresh delivery trucks. That means the Whole Foods Locker will only keep the freshest ingredients in-stock and is able to supply meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Users are also able to make suggestions for meals to be supplied for future deliveries through the application.

Yonanas the healthy sorbet maker Yonanas is a machine that transforms frozen fruits into delicious sorbet. This project is an improvement over the original Yonanas machine.

Concept and Ideation Yonanas is a machine that transforms frozen fruits into delicious sorbet. The Concept of the Yonanas machine really started by the fruit producer Dole to deal with over-rippened bananas and turning them into a frozen dessert. User can simply freeze the fruit of choice and turn the fruits into a heathy dessert. The inspiration of the redesign of the machine comes from three birds.

Hummingbird: sweet

Macaw: tropical

Penguin: Icy

Human Factor Points

Functions

Fruit Plunger

The fruit plunger is used to push frozen fruits into the grinding chamber. A spherical handle design helps making the design universal so that kids can use it.

Grinding Chamber

Grinder Blades

The Grinding mechanism is designed to be transparent as a indicator showing how the machine works.

The spiral blades design is an improvement over the original machine. This design solves the problem of having too much leftover sorbet in the grinder.

Grinder lock

Grinder Lid

The lock prevent the motor from rotating and causing injuries. The machine will not start unless the grinding mechanism is correctly installed.

The grinder lid helps user disassemble and clean the grinder easier.

Motor

On/Off Switch

A 200W motor is driving the spiral blades to pull frozen fruit from the inlet, grind the fruits into sorbet, then push the sorbet out of the machine.

The sphere design of the switch is a continuation of the design language of the Smeg “50’s Retro Style product line.

Design Process

The new design of the Yonanas Sorbet Maker has met all the the design goals: 50% reduction in noise 15% increase in power 25% reduction in overall height Lower running cost thanks to higher quality build and extended product life

Team Prism is one of the Innovation Space teams at The Design School. We worked on the project sponsored by Johnson and Johnson. Our team is comprised of an Industrial design student, a graphic design student, an engineering student and a business student. We choose to focus on solving the disease-carrying vectors and environmental agressors. During the semester, PRISM spent months researching, brainstorming, ideating (repeat as needed) to come up with effective, innovative solutions to the problem of mosquitoes and air pollution. While our initial research centered around preventing the spread of mosquito-borne disease, toward the end, we found that perhaps we could tackle both issues.

PROBLEM STATEMENT :: Protection against spreading of vector caused diseases like malaria, dengue, Zika etc.

FUNCTION :: Adamor detects the presence of the mosquitoes and alerts the user and activates the product by giving noise and LED indication. It charges the human body very lightly which will create an electric field and keep the mosquitoes away from the user.

PROBLEM STATEMENT :: Protecting personal space from disease causing vectors.

FUNCTION :: Moscape is a Biomimicry concept inspired from carnivorous plants like Pitcher Plant. It is focused to be a functional decorative product. It can be used indoors and outdoors. It attracts the mosquitoes towards it and allows the suction cup to trap the mosquitoes inside it. It uses various attarcting agent like the Pitcher plant. For example, water like droplets, bright colors, sticky surfaces.

home garden

PROBLEM

OPPORTUNITY The availability of fresh vegetables should not be limited by the amount of space or money that a person or family has. This is an opportunity to bring the garden system indoors by focusing solely on the essential elements that make a successful garden. In addition, an indoor gardening system has potential to offer an educational experience for both the parents and children while keeping the users engaged, invested and informed. The indoor garden will need to be affordable, energy efficient, thrive on traditional planting methods, and sustainable materials.

Phoenix, AZ has had it’s licks in the past with Urban Sprawl and the U.S. housing market crash of 2008. Now as the economy has slowly recovered, local developers and city leaders are thinking proactively; the city of Phoenix, is no longer expanding horizontally, but growing upward. This is evidence that the economy is recovering. However, local lots being used as community gardens for low income communities are now being pushed out to make way for new apartment buildings and facilities.

Research Timer market analysis

Problem

While existing timers today are convenient in some aspects, none of them satisfy the need for an integrative and simple tool that easily adapts to the user’s daily activities. We live busy lives that leave our attention stretched in every direction and it’s often too much trouble to use a timer, especially when we are multitasking. Although most people would benefit from the use of a timer, current timers are single-faceted and there is no solution that accommodates all our needs.

Pros: tactile satisfaction, visual element Cons: limited use, noisy, stationary

Pros: portable Cons: limited use, no tactile feedback, no visual aspect

Pros: convenient, quick, multi-functional, portable Cons: distracting, dims out, no tactile feedback, no visual aspect

Pros: easy to use, simple, visual Cons: limited function, preset time, stationary

Opportunity

Mood

A multi-faceted timer that takes the burden of time off your hands through ease of use, simplicity, and adaptability. Simple interaction through either touch, gesture, or voice allows the use of a powerful tool with little effort like never before. The timer would incorporate voice narration and custom alarms for when one needs information and cannot look.
