Dear Readers and Supporters, Hello and a Happy Birthday to The Directory. Many thanks to all of the advertisers and readers over the last two years for your support. Anyone starting a new business especially in a recession knows how much hard work and dedication is needed so it is fantastic to reach these milestones. Many of the advertisers have offers and discounts for you to enjoy every month, so take a read of the adverts to find what you are looking for. If you are keen on doing Sudoku puzzles then complete the one on the puzzle page and get your answer emailed to The Directory or drop it in to H20 in Burriana Beach, Nerja, for a chance to win a fabulous Tea for Two. It is time for San Juan celebrations on the night of the 23rd June. The only night of the year where you can camp on the beach. One of the spectacles of the festivities is the lighting of bonfires (Hogueras). These fires have two symbolic meanings, one is to give the sun more strength and the second is to cleanse the onlookers of their sins. It’s said that anybody who jumps over a bonfire three times will be purified of their sins and their problems burned away. Some people write down wishes on paper and throw them onto the fires for their wishes to come true! The Weekend Beach Festival is early July in Torre del Mar and you can see the advert inside for more details. Tickets are available through The Directory, so give us a call or email to make sure you get yours. You can follow us on our social media pages and keep up to date with what´s going on throughout the month. Look to the right in the green box for all the contact details. Have a great month!

WELLBEING

WELLBEING When is it time to give up? That is not an easy question to answer. A simple answer would be NEVER, but life is not as simple as that. It really depends on what you want to achieve. If you are only looking for being right no matter how wrong you are, then by all means don´t give up, even if it makes you completely stupid. It is very human to have problems. In theory we may need our problems in order to feel more important, to get more attention, sympathy or pity. We talk about our problems, since we talk about them all the time; we love our solutions even more. The good thing about solutions is that it is more constructive to focus on solutions than on problems. Unfortunately our solutions are often uninspected and do not work. At one point or another we decide that we have a solution and then we stick to it year by year, even if it doesn´t work at all. Things like I´m going to stop smoking if I get pregnant; one day they will invent a miracle pill so that I can loose weight; I have been eating junk food for twenty years and haven´t died yet. What it really means is that we have not yet come to a point where change is needed, and if there is no need for change, nothing will change. Are you in perfect health, physically, socially and mentally? Are you coping alright with everyday stress, shortcomings and fears? Don´t invite disaster. Don´t even invite the smallest pain or loss of energy. Something can usually be done about it and if you are ready for a change then there is a good chance that we can help you. There is no need for giving up improvement. Come and see us at Pies y Bienestar, Calle Pintada 73, Nerja Tel 722 188 811

Currency News Election Fever Last month’s election result had people all over the UK wondering just how the pollsters had managed to get it so spectacularly wrong. The Conservatives won an outright majority of 12 seats, confounding all expectations that another coalition government – or even a second polling day – was on the cards. The result had a profound effect on Sterling, but now that all the campaign billboards have been taken down let’s not forget that events outside the UK will also play a part in the pound’s performance. Sterling behaved a bit erratically because of the general election. Ahead of the 7 May poll the British pound was a little above neutral as bookies, pundits and pollsters alike agreed that the election outcome was too close to call. However, the election result shock exit poll – showing a decisive win for the Conservatives – gave Sterling a firm bounce. GBP/USD soared to a threemonth high and EUR/GBP fell to a tenday low. Fingers crossed for Eurozone performance figures The euro was pulled in all directions last month, and its performance was therefore inconsistent. The ongoing Greek bailout drama continued to weigh on it, but a global bond rout helped to see the euro through, as did positive GDP data. Business Debt
Prevention is better than cure, as De Cotta Law explains...
Owning, running and managing a business in Spain during the crisis has been a challenge. Unpaid invoices and accounts can cause immediate cash flow problems and build up longer term issues for both small and large companies. One of the best ways of preventing this from happening is having correctly drafted payment terms, together with proper contractual agreements with your clients and customers. Some agreements don’t correctly define the company or provider and they are therefore difficult to enforce if you have a problem with an account. For both parties the certainty of knowing payment terms and having copies of invoices and facturas is far better than having to go to court to make a claim. A Spanish lawyer can study the documentation you give to clients to ensure any agreement or contract can be enforced. This applies to everybody from estate agents to hotel owners and a good set of customer or client documents makes it less likely that problems will occur. Spanish courts do have an accelerated procedure for monetary claims and something similar to a UK summary judgement can be obtained that can be enforced against the debtor if they do not contest it. Normally the first step is for a ‘burofax’ to be sent to the debtor demanding payment within a fixed number of days. If there is no response

Legal Matters
then a claim can be made. You will have to pay court costs, procurator fees and legal fees. However if you are successful some of the costs can be recovered from the other party. For claims above 3.000€ it is normally necessary to commence a civil claim rather than just a ‘small claim’. This does involve extra costs and we normally recommend undertaking a property or asset search to see if you are likely to be able to recover the debt. Each case should be decided on its merits so it is wise to get legal advice both prior to entering into contracts and payment terms with your clients. WELLBEING WELLBEING
Raindrop Technique Raindrop technique is a powerful technique using essential oils that which combines several holistic modalities to bring balance and alignment to the body in a non-invasive manner. It also stimulates all the body systems on a physical and emotional level. What is Raindrop Technique? This technique involves applying therapeutic grade essential oils to the spine, neck and feet. The session lasts about an hour however the benefits may last up to a week or more. The three modalities that combine to form Raindrop Technique are: Aromatherapy: Raindrop technique uses seven single essential oils, two blends and one essential oil massage blend during the session. It is congruent with the French application of aromatherapy where essential oils are applied NEAT (undiluted) to the body. Vita Flex Technique: Vita Flex which is an ancient Tibetan healing methodology meaning “vitality through the reflexes”. Its theory is based on the fact that slight pressure applied to the body creates an electric charge that is therapeutic to the body. This is known as piezoelectric. Feather Stroking: This is similar to a massage term technique called effleurage. But this technique was actually termed by the Native American Indians. How does Raindrop get its Name? Essential oils are actually dropped from about 6 inches above your spine, simulating rain drops! It feels like a rain drop gently striking your spine, and it is very relaxing and comforting. It is thought that the oils interact with a person’s electric field before even penetrating the skin of the back. Thereby, enhancing the electromagnetic properties of the oils as well. Amazing! What are the Benefits of Raindrop Technique? There are numerous benefits of the Raindrop Technique. Here are just a few: Balance and Re-align the Energy Centers of the Body: The combination of techniques brings electrical and structural alignment to the body. The essential oil blend of Valor helps the body align and is often referred to as “chiropractor in the bottle”. Non-Manipulative Technique: No manipulation as in chiropractic is performed. The oils help support the body to come back into balance by opening energy flow throughout the body. Reduce Stress and Minor Anxiety: Not only can the oils enhance positive emotions such as joy and happiness, but they can also help us release negative emotions that are subconsciously stored on a cellular level. Aid the Body’s Natural Response to Irritation and Injury: Thyme and Oregano support the immune, respiratory, nervous, and other body systems. They are strong antioxidants. Ease Occasional Muscle, Bone, and Joint Discomfort: Muscles that are sore, spastic or stressed will also benefit. Basil, Wintergreen, Marjoram, Cypress and Peppermint essential oils reduce tension in muscles. Wintergreen supports healthy bone structure. Improve Immune System Functions: Thyme and Oregano essential oils support the immune system; and aid in the release of toxins in the body. This will contribute positively to your overall health and well being. Emotional Well Being and Release: Essential oils cross the blood-brain barrier and effect the limbic system where emotions are stored in the “brain’s emotional computer”. Help Detox the Body Systems: The oils being high in phenols cleanse cellular receptor sites and enhance cleansing of the body. Increase in Height: Yes, most people experience a slight increase in their height! I have seen changes from ½ to 1 inch! This is due to the realignment of the spine and detoxification along You can find more information on Tel: 603 771 639 the spinal column.

Quaintly Spanish Buy Nothing New
Half the year’s nearly gone, how are all those new year’s resolutions coming along? Did you start that diet, drink less? Or did January 2nd see you downing a G&T & reaching for a bag of cheese onion crisps? I had my own new year’s resolution, actually it’s quite a fad online, called Buy Nothing New Month, “a global movement for collective, conscientious consumption”. Basically you can’t buy any new clothes for a month, because you really don’t need more ‘stuff’. As I’m a bit of an over-achiever I figured I’d go a whole year without buying any new clothes. And you know what? It was a breeze, the past couple of months! Nothing much for me to buy in Spain anyway. At almost six feet tall Spanish shop girls cower when I walk in. Helpful ladies in shoe shops refer me to this one shop in Málaga that does ‘special’ shoes. And we all know ‘special’ is just shoe-shop-lady speak for ‘freak’, don’t we? Another assistant told me I should just try and squeeze into a bra two sizes smaller than my size as they never sold anything THAT BIG. So not shopping? No problem! I was very pleased with myself, little non-consumerist goody two-shoes (old ones, obviously). Until I went to the US last month. And found that actually, there’s a Hungry Consumerist Beast lurking inside of me, if only there is something to buy! American shops are so pretty, the staff never use words like ‘big’ or ‘special’ and they certainly don’t cower at my size. Basically, I shopped my ass off. Guess I’ll try again next year. Might as well have a G&T and some cheese onion crisps while I’m at it...

HIKING IN SPAIN
Wildflowers, wine and walking – a hiking holiday in Spain This year for our holidays we decided on a trekking tour right here in Spain. Not the crowded, over commercialised Camino de Santiago for us. Instead, we chose the path less trodden – the exotically titled "Hiking Hidden Andalucia". The tourist brochure from Sherpa Expeditions promised charming white washed villages perched on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada, and commanding views across the mountains to the coast beyond. The real deal clincher was the fact we were likely to see more donkeys than people. Yes please! Luggage transfers each day to our next destination were also included. No heavy back packs to carry, just our daily food and water supplies. Each day we would pass through at least one village, sometimes two or three, and it was our daily treat to stop at a cafe for a cafe con leche. These small villages of the Alpujarras region don't see many tourists, and it is lovely to stop for awhile and watch the villagers go about their daily life. Our other daily treats were a picnic lunch in a scenic spot (either in a meadow of flowers or with a nice view of a village, mountain or river), soaking our hot and tired feet in an ice cold mountain stream, an afternoon siesta when we reached our destination for the day (usually mid afternoon), tapas and wine at a village bar (the only way we could get a plate of food before 8pm), and a then a rewarding 3 course dinner before finally falling into bed for a deep, well earned sleep. At the end of 8 days we felt amazingly relaxed and extremely proud of our new, strong leg muscles. Did we lose any weight? Not likely, thanks to all the delicious Andalucian produce. But who cares? That’s what holidays are all about. Natalie Seaman The DIRECTORY an easy to use, easy to find A-Z of businesses in your area and more!

TORRE DEL MAR
It is no wonder that Torre del Mar attracts tourists and locals to its shores. Boasting a delightful paved promenade that runs parallel to the sparkling Mediterranean, this town offers more than just 4 kms of sun kissed beaches and seaside cafes. Believed to have once been part of an ancient Greek settlement, this town has boomed into an established family friendly town with all the conveniences of modern living. While the Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquia supports your emergency and medical needs, El Ingenio will support all your retail therapy needs. If you can´t find what you want in the 100 shops available there try the market that is held every Thursday Av. Duque de Ahumada. In summer you can cool your heels at the Aquavelis water park or catch a refreshing ocean breeze beneath the shade of the 26 metre lighthouse that takes pride over place of this lively friendly town, and if you are very lucky you may spy a pod of dolphins offshore. Opening early in 2015 a pedestrian only street (Calle del Mar) offers a strip of shops and cafes all frequented by locals and visitors alike adding to the vibrancy of this beautiful town. In July Torre del mar is one of many villages to celebrate the Virgin del Carmen (patron saint of fisherman) on the 16th and the Feria is held between 22nd and 26th where on this last day celebrations take place for Santa Ana and Saint Joaquin day. Also on the 8-11th July is the Weekend Beach Music Festival see the advert in this month´s issue for more information. If you haven’t already, head down to Torre del Mar, you won´t be disappointed. Last year the membership donated thousands of Euros, to a variety of Spanish ONG Charity Organizations. The club hosts monthly outings, bowling, walks, dinners, travel and informal coffee meetings. At “Resident’s Day” in Nerja later in the month, they will be generating charity funds by selling coffee, cake, sangria and hand-made crafts Even with all this work, our motto is: “If it isn’t fun, we don’t do it” www.americaninternationalclub.com
