No need to cool air when there is no one there.
ESOLA SYSTEMS With the introduction of the new laws for rental properties in Spain, all rental properties must be fitted with air conditioning to the bedrooms and lounge areas to maintain a specified minimum temperature. Esola Systems have been operating in the Costa del Sol for over 10 years, providing the best economical air conditioning systems for domestic and commercial properties. As well as the Costa del Sol, we are also the installers for Concept Building (Southern) Ltd in the UK on projects in places such as Southampton University and Tunbridge Wells Hospital. As a result of the new laws here in Spain, we are pleased to be able to supply for our customers the comprehensive range of Ecosense PIR Sensors to control your air conditioning. Unlike other sensors, the Ecosense sensors are tamper proof, and maintenance free and have a night mode included. SUMMER IS NEARLY These sensors HERE. “Quite simply Ecosense will monitor a room to see if it’s being used, if it’s not then Ecosense will switch off your air conditioning by means of emulating the off function of your A/C remote controller. This ensures that the A/C unit goes through its correct shut down procedure.” Ecosense 4000+ • Reduces energy costs by up to 80% • Universally compatible with all remotely controlled air conditioning units • Mains powered (110- 230 V) • Multiple setting options • Key coded for secure access • Tamper proof infrared connectivity • Includes 1 x door / window sensor • RF communication with additional optional accessories Optional Remote Control allows you to set a minimum and/or maximum temperature as required. Help protect your home from break-ins with HOME SECURITY TIPS from ¡PERFECT Alarm! S.L. Tip No. 3: Don’t Make It Easy to Hide
A burglar is more likely to try getting into a house where there is less chance of being seen. Taking away the robber’s cover goes a long way toward protecting your house. Thieves can hide behind trees and shrubs. Trim back or remove any shrubbery next to doors or windows. Use outside security lighting to illuminate every access door. The main entrance should be illuminated with a fixture that has two bulbs or with two fixtures in case one bulb burns out. Use exterior lighting with motion detectors for the yard, driveway and other outside regions. If lights come on when someone approaches, a burglar is less likely to try breaking into your home. Also, if the lights are activated by motion rather than being left on all the time, your neighbors are more likely to notice if someone is moving around your house.

Remember the back and side of your home offer some concealment for a burglar who is trying to break in. So pay close attention to securing all entrances.

WELLBEING What you need to know about Diabetes before you get it.
Diabetes means that cells are insensitive to insulin. Blood sugar, glucose, in the blood stream goes high and there is a risk for nerve, and other damage to the body. With diabetes the regulation of the glucose level is out of control. So why do we get it? There is a hereditary factor. People with Diabetes in the family are statistically more prone to get it. Early life habits play a role. Did your parents suffer from alcoholism? Many alcoholics get Diabetes and unless you are an alcoholic too there is no reason to get it that way. Drinking too much alcohol keeps the body struggling to survive despite the acidity introduced by the liquor. When the body is occupied with one thing, it has difficulty handling other complications. A person recovering from heart problems or stroke, may very well succumb from pneumonia, or something else that had little to do with the original problem. Occupied with one thing, the immune system cannot cope with a second issue. People who are under tremendous stress, get Diabetes. Some women get Diabetes during pregnancy or while giving birth. Any severe unhandled inflammation of the body is an invitation to problems with regulatory systems such as blood sugar control. Diabetes does not come from eating too much sugar. On the other hand it doesn’t come from eating too little sugar either. There is sugar and processed carbohydrates in everything we eat. That increases insulin dependent obesity. Once our energy reserves are filled up, insulin is used by the liver to convert excess glucose and carbohydrates into fat. The risk of getting Diabetes thus increases with every inch added to the waist. We grow fat in response to simple and complex sugars that we cannot use be-cause we are too stressed or ill to do it. We enter into pre-diabetes.
Illness does not occur without an environment that promotes it. What the body and blood stream needs, is to be alkaline, and sugar is very acidy. Processed food, and substances that are hard to digest, like gluten and milk, causes intestinal inflammation and open doors to health problems such as Fibromyalgia, Metabolic Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Leaky Gut, and why not Diabetes. The bodies regulatory systems are interconnected. When one breaks down, the others struggle. Blood pressure 44

increases. The thyroid gives up. Hormone production goes awry. We stress more, eat more, sleep less, ignore health problems, grow fat, and WHAM, Diabetes. That is why Diabetes is a welfare illness. We acquire it from eating incorrectly and by stressing our bodies to the limit and we are too busy to know what is good for us. To prevent diabetes, Eat healthy and do what you are doing when you are doing it. Yogi ADVENTURESntures Hola! As a yoga teacher and outdoors enthusiast, I’m a huge fan of exploring – both inner and outer worlds.
In truth, I’m a ‘fair weather’ kind of person. I was spending most of the UK winters indoors or cocooned in waterproofs and woollies. So I moved to Andalusia in 2016 with the goal of ‘getting outdoors more’. The moment I saw the Almijaras and Axarquia’s dramatic coastline, I fell in love. I booked my road bike onto the next plane (mountain bike pending) and found a place near Nerja’s mountainous backdrop. The region is perfect for exploring.

There are stunning mountain ranges, rivers and lakes – not to mention the beautiful Mediterranean. And we’re fortunate to have mild winters as well as hot summers. So you can change activities as the weather changes. Over the next year, I’ll be writing a piece every month on hiking, cycling, kayaking, even dogwalking the lesser-known beauty spots of Axarquia. As well as giving you the chance to enjoy nature, these are the perfect opportunity to stay (or get!) fit and healthy with friends and family. And fear not, I’ll rate activities according to fitness levels. You’ll also get tips on what to wear, pack and look out for. I hope it inspires you to try something new. Any suggestions? Get in touch and let me know! Hasta luego, Sal, Samadhi Mañana sally@samadhi-manana.com www.samadhi-manana.com

BLOGGING FOR BUSINESS Think blogging is just a hobby? Think again - it’s one of the best marketing tools for business. Not only do small businesses with blogs generate more leads, but websites with blogs have more indexed pages than those without. What does that mean?! It means that your business has a better chance of being discovered by potential customers and search engines than those without a blog. What should I post on my blog? Tell people about your product or service and why they need it. Giving away free information to your readers establishes you as an expert in your sector. Customers would rather learn about your business, product or service through your blog articles than your paid ads. Give them a reason to come to you first when they need your product or service!
Post quality content, not only to entertain and engage your readers, but also to impress the search engines. Search engines will see you have exceptional content and boost your rankings - when someone searches for your product or service in your area, there you are! Maintaining a blog is hard work! You’re absolutely right - it is hard work. Researching, writing, editing and posting your content can be time consuming, but you will see a return on your investment. Be consistent, be entertaining and offer quality - you will see for yourself how blogging is an extremely powerful marketing tool. Blogging will grow your business, just stick at it! Remember, it’s better to build a community that actually cares about what you’re doing. Call Eleanor Makin at Quantum23 to find out more about websites. See ad under Websites. 47

ALLERGIES During the month of May a lot of people suffer from allergies. The weather is dry and hot and the sneezing starts. Here are some yogic tips to avoid feeling stuffed up and help you to get a handle on your allergies!
1. Try a dry brush massage before your morning shower and do some sun salutations before breakfast; both will help to increase your circulation.
SPANISH CUISINE The Spanish word desayuno, meaning breakfast, comes from the prefix des– meaning not– and ayuno, meaning fast (in the sense of a religious fast, during which you don’t eat). Thus, literally desayuno (breakfast) is “the break – fast” ! Various dishes of churros with either sugar or melted chocolate, tostada, Tomato pitufos, if in a hotel maybe you would be served with cold meats and cheeses.
2. Eat light meals, nothing too cold or too hot and try to avoid dairy (they create a lot of mucus). 3. Add natural honey to your diet! Honey is loaded with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It´s perfect to alleviate allergies, because it contains pollen, which will result in a lesser allergic response! 4. Breathe through the nose! The nose will protect your body better than the mouth when inhaling air, resulting in less allergic symptoms! Try: “Kapalabhati”: take a comfortable seat, lengthen the spine and close your eyes. Start exhaling forcefully and rapidly through the nose (like blowing your nose) and inhale passively. This exercise will help to clear your nostrils and will clean the lungs! 5. Try “Salamba Sarvangasana” (shoulder stand) or lengthen the legs up against a wall. This will open the nasal passages and help to improve drainage. Legal Matters
One of those ´ground-hog day´ moments with Brexit dominating matters until June and little new news on the markets.
The Junta de Andalucía has now published the new law on short term or holiday rentals of less than two months. The new law will apply to all individual rental properties and not solely to those owners who have three or more properties. The law will come into effect on 12th May 2016. There will be a grace period of one year before inspections commence and sanctions can be imposed on those who have not fulfilled the requirements. The minimum requirements include but are not limited to: • A licence of occupation or similar – Town Halls requirements will vary (contact us for more information). • Complying with technical requirements for construction and residential property. • Ventilation to the outside and window blinds, curtains or similar and suitable furnishings. • Air conditioning and heating and mains services contracts. • To have tourist and leisure information for the local area. • Complaints forms for consumers. • Cleaning services, Bedlinen, instructions manuals, contact number to resolve any problems and local community norms and information. • The rental contract for consumers must have certain minimum information. The details of the user must be supported by an identity document and this must be retained for one year from the time of use. Compensation rights and the right to retain deposits must be quoted. • The price per night must include water, electricity, heating, air conditioning, cleaning and bedlinen, towels etc. It will be obligatory to register with the Tourist registry of Andalucía before publishing any marketing for the property and taking rental bookings after 12th May 2016. There will be a Declaration for the owner to complete identifying the property, the catastral reference and the licence of occupation or similar and the identity of any company or individual who is carrying out the business on behalf of the owner. Once the registration number has been received this must be included in the publicity and contract.
The pound has rebounded from its 2 year low, gaining nearly 4 cents recently and unemployment in the UK, whilst 23,000 higher for the first time in a year, remains at 5.1%. The Bank of England are taking a dovelike stance between now and the referendum, keeping interest rates at their historical low of 0.5% and trying not to rock the boat whilst still indicating their preference for an ´in´ vote. Meanwhile, David Cameron seems to have weathered the storm over his personal tax situation and has picked up a key ally in his fight to keep the UK within the EU. President Obama has come out strongly in favour of the UK remaining within Europe and has written a public letter in the Telegraph detailing why he feels we should remain. Indeed, perhaps with the exception of President Putin, more and more world leaders are starting to make their voices heard in support of the in vote(is this further evidence that we now live in a global world?). The euro is not helped by a refocus on the uncertainty and problems that remain in Greece, whose economy continues to fall short of expectations and in doing so refocuses on their ability (or inability) to services the huge loans caused by EU handouts. All in all, expect currency markets to remain volatile in the run-up to the referendum and if you do need to transfer sterling into euros, keep a close eye on any spikes in the exchange rates, jump in and take advantage whilst you can ! For more information call Melanie Radford at Currencies Direct. See their advert under Currency Transfers.

As the 23rd June and the referendum on whether the UK should leave, or remain, in the EU (Brexit) approaches, 100s of 1000s of Brits in Spain are facing uncertainty over what the future may bring. If you have lived outside the UK for over 15 years, you are ineligible to vote under current voting laws. However, anyone who has lived outside the UK for less than 15 years has until May 16th to register to vote by post or proxy by visiting: www.eureferendum.gov.uk Why has this referendum come about? Prime Minister David Cameron committed to holding an in/out referendum by 2017 if he won the 2015 general elections. His Conservative party are famously split over the EU, with big names, such as London Mayor Boris Johnson firmly in the ‘Leave’ camp, whereas Prime Minister David Cameron strongly believes we should stay. No wonder many Brits are confused about what the EU does and whether or not it’s a good thing! In April two groups were recognised as the official ‘in’ and ‘out’ campaigns; Britain Stronger in Europe (www.strongerin.co.uk) and Vote Leave (www.voteleavetakecontrol.org) respectively. So what does a ‘Brexit’ mean for Brits in Spain? There is a great deal of speculation over how leaving would affect us, but it is clear that certain benefits and rights that we enjoy as EU citizens could be threatened, such as the reciprocal healthcare agreement between the UK and Spain and the freedom to live and work in other EU countries. The government hasn’t told us what would happen if we did leave, probably because they don’t really know themselves.
