Help protect your home from break-ins with HOME SECURITY TIPS from ¡PERFECT Alarm! S.L. Tip No. 2: Make It Hard to Break In

6

The DIRECTORY April 2016

Burglars are always looking for easy access. The harder it is for a burglar to get in, the less likely you are to come back to a burgled home. • In most burglaries, the criminals broke into the house or flat through the door, either by forcing the lock or kicking it in. So make sure all your doors and windows are strong and secure (Three-point locking). • Alter your outside landscaping to make it difficult for burglars to navigate your property without being seen or heard. • You may want to surround your windows or home with loose gravel, stones, or rocks that will make noise when stepped on. • Place plants or shrubbery under your windows or on your property that is difficult to navigate around, such as rose bushes or with lots of thorns. • Install a visual burglar alarm • Install good outside lighting

REMOVALS

Last month I moved home and called upon the services of Men with Vans. They turned up on time and got to work straightaway. As many times as I asked if they wanted a drink they politely replied no and carried on working. I had completely under estimated how much stuff I had!! I aspire to be minimalistic but I am sure John and Alex would agree, I have a long way to go!! They were polite, considerate and careful with my belongings. Their rates are very competitive, they start charging when they arrive, they don´t take any breaks and they work consistantly until they have finished. I would not hesitate to recommend Men with Vans.

HOW TWITTER CAN GROW YOUR BUSINESS

WEB WORLD

With more than 230 million active users every month, Twitter is one of the most powerful marketing tools for business. Twitter not only helps your business by bringing users to your website, but can also build an engaged and connected audience. Your Profile on Twitter Optimising your information and keeping it up to date is key; make sure your bio reflects and defines your brand, include keywords and don’t forget to attach a link to your website. Following and Followers Follow people who can help build your business - customers, business partners, suppliers, vendors, businesses in your area, businesses run by people you know, and even your competitors or peers. What To Tweet Tweets are limited to 140 or fewer characters. Be authentic, don’t over self-promote, limit the use of hashtags to two per tweet, retweet, like other tweets and share quality images or infographics. Remember, it’s better to build a community that actually cares about what you’re doing.

WELLBEING

39

WELLBEING Hormone Heaven or Hormone Hell. In a well maintained factory, everything works perfectly. Raw material and energy flows smoothly in pipes and cables at exact times and in proper quantity. When not well kept things can go very awry, or break down completely. A human body works in a similar way. We give it nutrients and signals are sent throughout the system in order to maintain the body healthy. Hormones flow in our blood stream as a reaction to internal and external circumstances. It is extremely important that the hormones are produced and distributed in correct quantity and at the time when they are needed. They are regulators demanding responses to bodily needs, and are vital in keeping us alive and happy. Unfortunately, just like in a factory, things can go wrong. We feed the body with things it cannot use. Sometimes things which are outright poisonous and the production of hormones start to fail. The regulatory systems break down and hormones are over produced, under produced, not produced at all, or a replaced by incorrect hormonal responses. Let’s say that you are in a situation where you are extremely angry with your husband or wife. It does not handle anything if you respond by kicking the cat. That this would be an incorrect response is easy to see. It is harder to understand that many undesired bodily conditions are the result of such incorrect responses. When we grow fat, it is easy to explain away the fact with “I eat too much”. People who say that usually stay fat or grow even fatter. Being fat has a lot to do with hormones.

The first thing we ever suffer from is ignorance and as we become less ignorant we risk suffering from knowing too much. We allow too much stress to enter our lives. To prepare for fight or flight, the hormone Cortisol is produced in the adrenals. The digestive system shuts down in part. Food we eat ends up getting converted to belly fat or is not used, which results in stomach problems and frequent food cravings. As always, things happen for a reason. A person who drinks too much or who smokes, will have health problems. How about an adult who drinks cows milk, or who eats too much bread? It is very hard for the body to digest Casein, the main protein of milk. It acts as a glue and disturbs the intestines, increasing the risk for the leaky gut syndrome. Gluten, the protein of bread can act in the same way. When that happens almost anything, bacteria, viruses, food rests, can enter the blood stream causing havoc to hormone production. Our bodies “eat” 24 hours a day and, when we are not eating, the liver provides the energy from reserves. Blood sugar levels thus can increase even when we are not physically eating. Insulin production increases and that which we do not utilize is converted into fat. When the energy comes from the intestine by eating, another hormone Amylin, is produced to limit the reserve energy from the liver. While we are under stress however the Insulin/Amylin balance goes wrong and blood sugar levels 40

WELLBEING

may increase abnormally. Fat production and the risk of acquiring Diabetes or cardiovascular deceases increase. It is impossible to be fat without over production of insulin. To complicate things further the hormonal system needs a good electrolytic balance in order to work. Sufficient minerals and vitamins are essential in this. So where does this take us? We need to be conscious about what we eat and notice the effect it has. Your body may not be perfect but it is the only one you have for the moment so provide for a good hormonal balance to help you take good care of it. You are welcome to come and see us at call 722 188 811 or come and see us at Pies y Bienestar on Calle Pintada 73 in Nerja.

DETOX

Having water and fresh lemon juice or a green smoothie first thing in the morning can do wonders for your body, but there are also Yoga poses that can help a lot to detox your body and mind! When practicing physical poses, try to focus on the following 3 things, and the results for the mind will be amazing:

1. Concentration 2. Relaxation 3. Breathing! 1.Locust This pose strengthens the back of the body, but the pressure on your abdomen also encourages digestion. Lie on your belly with your legs together. Place your arms by your sides with your palms facing up. As you inhale, lift your legs, head, and upper body off the floor. Your hands remain on the floor for support. As you breathe, relax your shoulders and the muscles in your bum. Extend the crown of your head away from your toes, lengthening as much as you can through your spine. Hold for five breaths, and then release back to the mat. 2.Seated spinal twist Twisting poses are all about aiding in digestion, which encourages the elimination of toxins. Begin seated on your mat with your legs extended in front of you. Bend your right leg, foot close to the body, knee up. Catch the right knee with the left hand and place the right hand behind you on the floor, twisting towards the right. Gaze behind you and over your right shoulder, staying here for five breaths. Then release the twist, straighten your legs out in front of you, and do this pose with your left knee pointing up. Inez Leniere – CómpetaYoga. www.competayoga.com 44 The DIRECTORY April 2016

SPANISH CUISINE

Question.

What is the most famoous food of Spain? Answer Paella. Paella comes in many forms but is probably best enjoyed in one of Spains many beach bars or Chiringuitos. Different meats and fish are used but the most used is rabbit, chicken, prawns and octopus/squid. Cooked on a massive fire on the beach how authentic is that!

Currency News

Legal Matters

The focus for now remains very much on the forthcoming Brexit referendum, with Sterling to Euro continuing to trade at between 1.26 & 1.27. The events in Brussels has given added impetus to the ´out´ vote with an 11% surge in voters indicating how they intend to vote. It is really now down to voter apathy & the fear is that whilst the majority of the public remain in favour of remaining within the EU, the lower the percentage turn-out, the closer the result will be.

The Junta de Andalucía has now published the new law on short term or holiday rentals of less than two months. The new law will apply to all individual rental properties and not solely to those owners who have three or more properties. The law will come into effect on 12th May 2016. There will be a grace period of one year before inspections commence and sanctions can be imposed on those who have not fulfilled the requirements. The minimum requirements include but are not limited to: • A licence of occupation or similar – Town Halls requirements will vary (contact us for more information). • Complying with technical requirements for construction and residential property. • Ventilation to the outside and window blinds, curtains or similar and suitable furnishings. • Air conditioning and heating and mains services contracts. • To have tourist and leisure information for the local area. • Complaints forms for consumers. • Cleaning services, Bedlinen, instructions manuals, contact number to resolve any problems and local community norms and information. • The rental contract for consumers must have certain minimum information. The details of the user must be supported by an identity document and this must be retained for one year from the time of use. Compensation rights and the right to retain deposits must be quoted. • The price per night must include water, electricity, heating, air conditioning, cleaning and bedlinen, towels etc. It will be obligatory to register with the Tourist registry of Andalucía before publishing any marketing for the property and taking rental bookings after 12th May 2016. There will be a Declaration for the owner to complete identifying the property, the catastral reference and the licence of occupation or similar and the identity of any company or individual who is carrying out the business on behalf of the owner. Once the registration number has been received this must be included in the publicity and contract.

Despite this, closer to home, Spain continues to see a surge in terms of the property market with ever increasing numbers of properties continuing to be sold (especially here on the Costa Del Sol with only Madrid & Barcelona outperforming this area). Over the pond, the US Dollar is at a 5 month low against the Euro & has fallen against most major currencies, this comes as a result of the Federal Reserve giving out very ´dovish´ indications regarding its own economy/interest rate rises. This helped to lift global markets One key item to look out for is more indications by the ECB with regards to further negative interest rates. We have already seen several Scandanavian, banks declaring negative interest rates where it basically costs money to leave it in the bank! Such a move within the EU could see an adverse reaction to the Euro and a subsequent weakening against most major currencies. You know the old saying ‘ Watch this Space’ For more information call Melanie Radford at Currencies Direct. See their advert under Currency Transfers.
