Dear Readers and Supporters, Here we are February already. What a cold month January was ... beautiful sunshiny days but those evenings and mornings have been so very cold. The views around the area at this time of year are amazing, from the vibrant sunsets, perfect rainbows to, the ever changing shadows on the mountains. You regularly see stunning photos being posted on the social media sites. Inspired by this last month whilst I was out in Torre del Mar, I took a photo of the snow through the palm trees. It would be nice to have 12 months in Axarquia recorded in The Directory so if you are out this month and manage to capture a great photo then please send it to The Directory by the 15th February and we will pick one for each month of this year. We have a sponsor for the Suduko on our puzzle page so take a look at that if you are a keen player for your chance to win a prize. If you would like to follow us on Facebook we can be easily found at The Directory Axarquia. Throughout the month we share our advertisers news and offers so keep up to date and don´t miss out on what’s going on online as well.

BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION continued ... Lights can give your garden at night a totally different feeling and with the use of a patio heater in cooler evenings you will get so much more use out of your garden. For mains voltage garden or outdoor lighting you need to make sure you are staying within the building regulations. This applies to other outdoor electrical activities also such as putting a light or electric socket in the shed, or supplying electricity to a pump for irrigation. Every cable, wire, socket, appliance and light used outdoors has to be protected by an RCD or residual current device that will instantly cut off the power should anything go wrong. We all know the dangers of poorly installed electricity, these dangers are multiplied when electrics are in the garden or around the swimming pool. The deadly combination of water and electricity should not be underestimated when installing garden electrics, it pays to draw up a plan and know exactly what you want, and even more importantly, where. Moving sockets and power points is an expensive business and changing your mind can cost a great deal. The old adage is so true when talking about garden electrics, “pay cheap and pay twice”. Have the job done once and then forget about it, call us today.

HEATING SYSTEMS

Redwell® - Efficient, energy saving and healthy heating solutions!

In comparison to conventional heaters, infrared waves don’t heat the air, but do heat people, walls and furniture. They absorb the heating waves and store the heat much longer than air, and then release it back into the living space. In this way a lot of energy can be saved. Also walls remain dry and mould has no chance. Another advantage is that the air does not circulate, therefore less dust, pollen, bacteria and mould spores are lifted up into the air. Storage material saves even more energy: Redwell® panels have a special storage material inside, that keeps the running times lower. The heater continues to emit its warmth also during those periods of time when no energy is consumed. Healthy warmth: We humans have evolved with the capacity to absorb infrared heat, which has a beneficial effect on our immune system. Infrared heat increases circulation in the skin, stimulates the metabolism and is very hygienic due to cleaner air. Rheumatoid or Asthmatic patients and Allergy sufferers benefit greatly. NEW - The Redwell® Towel Dryer 2.0: is a full heater that can also be used to dry your towels: Available in two sizes with either 560 or 700 Watt, and in the following designs: Mirror (see picture), Glass white or Glass motive 'Bamboo'. Redwell® Infrared Heaters offer the best benefits: Energy savings, high comfort, healthy indoor environment and NO maintenance costs! Tips to balance PH of the body Have you been feeling run down, tired, sick or cranky lately? If so, it could all be down to one simple thing: pH! Your pH is a measure of how acidic or alkaline the body is. If you’re eating unhealthy food, not sleeping well, drinking lots of alcohol, having negative thoughts or getting stressed and overwhelmed, there’s a good chance you’re very acidic. Too much acidity in the body can lead to complications, poor health or mood swings. Your body may be out of balance after over indulging during the festive season. Most people may simply ignore whether they are acidic or alkaline, but it has a huge impact on your energy levels, your health, your nervous system and even your state of mind. We tend to live very acidic lifestyles not just in the food we eat, but also in the fast-paced, noisy environments with which we surround ourselves. Overstimulation of the nervous system, lots of noise, alcohol, caffeine, processed food, wheat, sugar, dairy, lots of meat ... all of these contribute to acidity of the body. Here are some tips to get your body back in balance: 1 Drink warm water with organic, raw apple cider vinegar, or a squeeze of lemon in the morning. 2 Avoid caffeine, sugar and alcohol. 3 Drink fresh, organic, green smoothies. 4 Eat plenty of berries, including goji berries, blueberries and cranberries. 5 Eat soaked nuts and seeds. 6 Practice yoga. 7 Meditate Give it a go to see if you can feel the differences! Quaintly Spanish RECIPE BY TINA Year of the Goat IPA! Hi, I’m Liz, micro-brewer at La Cabra Azul brewery in Comares. The Chinese year of the Goat kicks off on February 19th and as my brewery is called La Cabra Azul (the Blue Goat) I obviously had to make a special beer! I’m a bit of a ‘hop head’ as it’s called, basically I’ll drink anything if you add enough hops to it! In my opinion, it’s the hops you use that provide a lot of the beer style and most of its taste. Though if you were to say this in a brewing forum you’d probably get your head chewed off, as there are scores of brewers who feel that the only thing that really matters in brewing is the yeast and another school that has strong views on malts. In a sense, brewing is more of a religion than simply a great way to make a tasty beverage! As I love trying new things, my new beer had to be over-the-top-hoppy. And preferably Spanish grown. Ah. There’s the rub: not a lot of hops are actually grown in Spain, which is a shame. I tried growing some last year but had to add it to the impossible pile: too hot! However, in the Spanish region of León they’ve been a lot more successful growing a variety of hops called Nugget and I am using those in my special Year of the Goat Dark Ale. So do drop by Table Mountain restaurant in Comares after February 19th, and get a taste of something very special. Cheers!More info: Liz@ab.tl More about Liz .. GIG GUIDE & MUSIC

MUSIC SCENE Nerja Music Roots Silk and Silver Fox. When Jacqui and Mel Gibbs came to Spain some 14 years ago, they decided to start the Silk Duo playing most of the Hotels in the area together with several restaurants and private venues. Their range of music went from Jazz to pop to Blues to Rock ´n´ Roll providing an easy listening repertoire which was extremely popular. Some times, they

would do a lunchtime buffet Gig in one restaurant and then go to another in the evenings. After a few years Mel met Geoff Warren (now with the Flying Dolphins) and formed MGRox which had 5 years of considerable success and still occasionally has reunion gigs. In 2004, they met Graham Smart whilst he was playing with his duo (Blues and Beyond) within a short period, the 3 of them formed the current outfit known as The Silver Fox band doing mainly Blues, Rock, a little Jazz and more. This band combines the earthy vocal talents of Jacqui and the guitar work (and Vocals) of Graham (guitar, Harmonica and synthesiser) and Mel(Rhythm and bottleneck Guitar and Mandolin). New material is being added all the time, changing the content and styling of the existing songs. This year Jacqui has decided to start up again the Silk Duo as this is ideal for a more relaxed and laid back sound and is great for the smaller venue and special occassions such as Valentine Nights, private parties etc.
