BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TESTIMONIAL ‘In these times of poor service, economic strife and ‘getting ripped-off’, I feel the need to spread some good news based on personal experience of a local construction company – L T Construction. There are reliable, competent, helpful, friendly and reasonably priced people out there such as this one and I fully endorse his services. Having moved permanently to the mountains above Lake Vinuela 3 years ago, we had a list of things that we wanted to do and some that HAD to be done and having heard of a series of horror stories about builders, etc .. did not know who to call when we had a nasty problem with the septic tank. A article written about LT Construction caught our eye and a quick visit to his web-site seemed to justify giving Lee Talbot a call. Amazingly, the call was taken, he visited the same day – YES THE SAME DAY – diagnosed the problem and gave us a quote on the spot which was very competitive. Having agreed the price, he arrived with his men the next morning – YES THE NEXT MORNING – and by lunchtime the whole job of relaying a section of drain, reconfiguring the pipework to the tank, running a vent pipe and pressure jetting was complete and he then asked for payment less than the quote – YES LESS THAN THE QUOTE ! Obviously we were delighted. We are currently enjoying another experience of Lees’ excellent service, visiting the same day as the call and carrying out the work over the next two days. We cannot recommend L T Construction too highly, check out the web-site and have a chat with Lee, he will not let you down! Gavin and Susan Ellis – La Vinuela

WELLBEING continued ... UNDERSTANDING BOWEN. A Bowen treatment addresses fascia tissue as well as the muscles and skeleton. Fascia is the sheet of connective tissue that covers the structures of the body – allowing flexibility and movement between various parts of the body. It is fascia that is, in part, responsible for your posture. By influencing the way the muscles and fascia work together, we work to influence the way the structure works encouraging your spine to adopt a better, less painful, position. We find that his approach often results in a much longerlasting effect on body alignment than some manipulative therapies. A classic Bowen Treatment is very gentle. There is no vigorous ‘pulling about’. Rolling moves are made on skin, muscles and tendons and elicit a powerful effect on the body. As the muscle is held, prior to the move being made, it is gently stretched, sending sensory information to the brain. There are thousands of these stretch receptors and thousands of times a second they repeatedly send this information to the brain about the status of the muscle that is being treated. The brain sends corrective information back to the individual muscles. Bowen moves are carried out in short sequences at key structural points with a gap of a couple of minutes between each sequence. The client is left to relax in a comfortable, warm atmosphere. It is a quiet time, with little talking, except for the client to feedback to the therapist about any sensations they may be experiencing. 32

Hormones and Us Hormones are a very very important part of the body system, they are released from the glands of the endocrine system; they travel in the bloodstream to specific target cells where they generate a wide range of biological responses. Every time you get angry, become tired, laugh, cry, have sex, wake up, feel hungry, or fall asleep your body is responding to hormones. Hormone levels can have a major impact on all aspects of the human body. They work slowly, over time, and affect many different processes, including: Growth and development Metabolism - how your body gets energy from the foods you eat Sexual function Reproduction Mood It takes only a tiny amount of disruption to cause big changes in cells or even the whole body. That is why too much or too little of a certain hormone can be serious. Laboratory tests can measure the hormone levels in the blood, urine or saliva. For example women in menopause often have very bad side effects because of the changes in the hormones or lack of oestrogen. The more natural a diet the better chance of keeping the hormones in balance, for example lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, grains pulses, pure water, light meats, fresh and oily fish will help keep the balance much better than processed, pre-packed foods and drinks. If the hormones are out of sync there are natural ways to help, Taking exercise, meditating, creative visualisation, yoga are all ways calming the mind that can often have a beneficial effect as does Reiki, Aromatherapy, and other holistic methods. Premenstrual tension is often a cause of hormone in-balance that affects many women. Angus Cactus is a natural herb that is known to help with Pre menstrual tension, as is Oil of Evening primrose; herbal teas and tisanes can also reduce the effects of hormone imbalance. Apple cider vinegar in a natural remedy that has many benefits in helping to relieve symptoms of menopause and perimenopause, Hot flushes and Night sweat symptoms can be relieved with Apple Cider vinegar. 34 The DIRECTORY an easy to use, easy to find A-Z of businesses in your area and more!

To maximize apple cider vinegar benefits for menopause symptoms, it is best to use an unprocessed, unfiltered organic variety (can be found in all health food shops) as this type contains all the nutrients required and nothing has been stripped out with processing. Suggestions on how to take Apple cider vinegar: Stir ½ teaspoon each of honey and apple cider vinegar into a glass of warm water, fruit or herbal tea, along with a dash of cayenne pepper. Drink this once a day. This drink makes a great tonic, helping promote normal perspiration and reducing hot flashes. HERB OF THE MONTH The Moringa Oleifera, also called the Miracle Tree, is really a wonderful Superfood!! Moringa is a tree native to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, but is now being widely cultivated throughout Africa, tropical Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands because the secret of this tree's potential to heal are no longer unknown to the masses. All parts of the tree are edible and have been used for centuries to meet medicinal and dietary needs by people living in those areas. The Moringa tree is the most nutritious in the world, with most of its benefits stored in the small green leaves of this unassuming plant. Moringa leaves are small, thick, and tear-drop shaped and grow rapidly as the plant matures. The leaves are strong and firm and can be easily picked from the tree's branches. Modern science has found that the reason this 'Miracle Tree' has so many curative properties is the combination of over 92 nutrients, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, antioxidants and micronutrients it contains and which is no longer available in the soil because of bad agricultural practices, excessive use of chemical fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides. Scientists are calling it the most nutrient packed plant ever discovered. There are literally hundreds of uses for this tree. Virtually every part of Moringa can be used. Moringa has been recommended by the World Health Organization in developing tropical countries because of its ability to combat malnutrition. Is is very easy to include the marvellous nutritional power into our lifes. The powder of the Moringa leafs can be diluted into water or juice, added to soups and salads, or used for a health tea. Adding every day the benefits of 92 phytonutrients to our food can only be a “miracle” for our health!! The DIRECTORY In print, online, social media and on the move ... we´ve got it covered!

MIND, BODY & SOUL Louise Hay in her book ‘You Can Heal your Life’ and other books she has written has created some interesting philosophies and one of the main ones is that our thoughts create your reality. Are your thoughts mainly positive or negative? Close your eyes and walk through your typical day. What are you thinking as you wake up in the morning? Do you jump out of bed glad to be alive or do you dread another day. How do you feel when you get dressed and look in the mirror? How is you working day? Do you have a great working relationship or is there a lot of tension? Do you feed your body nourishing foods or do you feel guilty for consuming lots of unhealthy foods? How is your relationships with family or family members? This is an interesting exercise to look at what our general thoughts are. The first step to changing your life is an awareness of your thoughts…one negative thought isn’t a problem but it can be when you have a pattern of negative thoughts. Here are some things you can fit into your daily routine to help lead a more positive life. Meditation – this is one of the oldest form of relaxation but it has been made into something very mystical and strange! Start with 5 – 10 mins a day in a quiet place and although it may be difficult in the beginning it gets easier the more you do it…it’s like personal training for your mind! We run around getting caught up in life and it’s great to slow down our minds and make time for ourselves and listen to our inner voice. Gratitude – let’s have an attitude of gratitude!! We have a tendency to complain a lot about what we haven’t got but forget to be grateful for the things we do have. Think of people and things that you’re grateful for, you can do it mentally or write it down in a gratitude book and do it at whatever time of days suits you. Affirmations – these are anything we say or think and we tend to state what we don’t want but forget to say what we do want. Affirmations are a great way of attracting what we want into our life as long as they are positive! One of my favourite affirmations is ‘All is well in my world and everything is working out for my highest good’ These techniques can be used on all aspects of life and next month I will focus on how these techniques can help with relationships. You can find more information on my website www.meiglynn.wordpress.com or follow me on Facebook on www.facebook.com/MeiFlynn . 36

Hammam Al Andalus is found in the centre of Malaga at la Plaza

de los Mテ。rtires.

The carefully detailed Moorish- inspired architectural project took several years developing before the Spa opened last year. It is situated in a building that used to house an old oven next to the Mudejar Tower belonging to the Church of the Holy Martyrs. It is a renovated monument space that completely captures the spirit of the old Arab baths of Al テ]dalus. The Hammam has three water rooms; cold (18C), warm (36C) and hot (40C) thermal baths which form part of the ritual of purification and offers steam, rest and massage rooms to complete the relaxation of the mind and body. You can decide how long you spend at each point of the circuit inside the Hammam which lasts in total for 1 hour and 30 minutes, including the time of the massage if this is booked. Why Spain? Personally I can think of a hundred reasons why I love Spain so much, and it is not only down to the amazing weather! I do believe that the sunshine does play an important part to making this area a wonderful place to live. How many times have I heard that England is beautiful, if only the sun came out a bit more often. When the sun does come out the whole place changes, people have fun, go out more and are happier. This year more than ever, with the terrible rain and floods that our UK friends and families have had to endure, people will be choosing some sunshine for their earned holiday. "Spain is now the third-most visited country for tourism." Locally, our region has many great appealing aspects - fresh, organic, inexpensive food, plenty of passion and culture, the terrain, the fantastic properties (new or old) and the beaches. I love the fact that you can have wintery clothes on and still feel the warm sun on your face - or go skiing within a short driving distance. Spain has now beaten France and Italy as the world’s top wine-producing country. Wine production increased by more than 40% last year! The wine production has boomed, apparently due to "...the investments and improvements implemented in this sector in Spain, as well as this country’s favourable climate and growing conditions over the past year.” The population in Andalucía's rose by more than 20% last year - so let's hope all the other sectors follow closely behind them! Enjoy Spain 38

SHARPEN YOUR TOOLS Every manufacturer knows that after a while, if not looked after, their tools and production lines wear down or break and don’t work as efficiently as they did when they were new. They mitigate this risk by regularly servicing their equipment; keeping it sharp and working well. Many small businesses, nowadays are service businesses so may not need to use any kit (other than computers), but this doesn’t mean that they should overlook that they too have ‘tools’ that are key to their business success. For most small businesses the business owner, partners and staff are as vital to the company as the products they sell or the services they provide. In light of this it is important to keep yourself and your staff sharp so that you can perform at your best.

A SHARP MIND I also find that investing time in personal development tones my skills for the job even though the training may not be directly related to the work being carried out. For example, I am a member of the international organization Toastmasters, which is a public speaking group. Public speaking isn’t a key requirement of my role in business, but communication skills are vital in any business and the organization focuses on leadership techniques as well. I feel that simply attending these sessions and stretching my comfort zone has lead to improvements in innovation and customer service through the great confidence that comes with working hard and achieving new levels.

Any business that invests in training its staff or any individual that spends time improving their mind will reap the benefits several fold.

REFRESH YOUR VIEW Get out of the office regularly to get a new perspective. Some of my best strategic decisions have been made climbing a mountain, looking at the ocean or going for a long run. Meeting up with like-minded individuals is also an excellent way of getting a new perspective. Locally there are a few networking groups that are full of interesting, helpful contacts. Check out the Business Breakfast Club in Axarquia or look on www.coastawomen.com for networking groups nearer to you. If you’re interested in merging learning and networking then Malaga Business Minds might be for you (https://www.facebook.com/groups/malagabusinessminds/)

GET THE BALANCE RIGHT Make sure that you are providing yourself with the best environment and work-life balance to give your best every day. You can achieve more in fewer hours by being more efficient. Plus, doing regular exercise Thoughts by Natalie Haigh increases your energy and helps sharpen Technology Strategist and Business your mind. GIG GUIDE & MUSIC

MUSIC SCENE Mr. Sister Jack Jacobs from the UK and Anabela from Portugal. Anabela

started singing Fado ( Traditional Portuguese Songs) from the age of eight, and then singing with pop groups when she got older. She was recently recognised in a new Portuguese book entitled, “Famous Singers of Our Land”, and given a three page write up with photo’s, of her singing career. Jack was trained as a classical pianist from the age of six, and started playing pop on the piano in pubs and clubs at the age of fourteen. At eighteen he took up the guitar, and formed a group called the “Tremors” and then got a singer song writer to join the group, Dave Curtiss, (who went on to write Madonna’s “Ray of Light”). They turned professional, had three records released on the Philips label, one of which “You Don’t Love Me Anymore” got in the top 30. They also had one single released on the Karate label in the USA. They played alongside the Rolling Stones, Gene Pitney, David Bowie, Elton John, The Searchers, Hollies, Kiki Dee, Adam Faith and many more great acts. After four years they band split and Jack formed another group called “The Martells” still playing lead guitar. They had a record released on the Decca label called “Time to say goodnight”, and it still gets played occasionally to this day. Jack left the Martells to move to Spain 11 years ago and started a one man band thing, doing a Shadows tribute act. It was while he

She sang a song for him and he was more than impressed, so they joined forces, and that was seven years ago. Known as “Mr. Sister” we play happy lively danceable music, spanning all the pop years. Playing and singing all the best English, Brazilian, Spanish and Portuguese music. Jack still plays all the lead parts on his trusty old Strat as he always has done with his groups, which gives them a very full live group sound.
