The energy saving, healthy and stylish heating solutions from Redwell have been convincing during the last 10 years hundreds of clients on the Costa del Sol and in other parts of Spain. The Austrian manufacturer is developing efficient and energy saving heating systems for more than 15 years. Redwell-Heaters are efficient and produce healthy heat In comparison to conventional heaters; infrared waves don’t heat the air, but do heat people, walls and furniture. You absorb the heating waves, which makes you feel nice and cosy. Walls and furniture store the heat much longer than air and then release it back into the living space. In this way, the walls remain dry and mould has no chance to spread. Another advantage is that the air does not circulate; therefore no dust is lifted up into the air.

Rheumatoid, Asthmatic patients & Allergy sufferers benefit greatly! RedwellÂŽ Infrared Heaters offer the best benefits:

WELLBEING heavy metal as is sometimes claimed!

Have you had a visit from the water filter salesmen yet? Over 65% of the human body is water so it is very important that we drink enough of it. But what water quality do we actually need in order to stay healthy? Between 2 and 5 billion deaths worldwide are related to illnesses from contaminated water. Tap water is filtered to remove solids and is thereafter chlorinated in order to kill bacteria’s to a reasonable degree. Chlorine is toxic and tastes very bad. Sometimes you hear about the heavy metals contained in water, led, cadmium and mercury among them. They are metals that our bodies accumulate day by day. Water also contains trace minerals that our bodies need, calcium, magnesium, potassium, selenium, silicium, iodine and zinc. It is very common that people lack essential minerals and have an excess of others and this creates a basis for a large variety of diseases such as osteoporosis, thyroid problems, diabetes and obesity. The normal mineral content of our bodies is more or less 5% and it is vital that it is well balanced. We replenish the minerals mostly from the vegetables that we eat and the water that we drink. Ecologically produced vegetables give us more trace minerals and more active enzymes in order to have a good digestion and nutrition. The quality of the water is also important. Unfortunately the tap water, although drinkable, does not often qualify as healthy. Filtering it further, using as a 38

Another test is with electrolysis. Two electrodes are put in the water and are used to heat it up with mains current. The material of the electrodes and the heat reacts together with the content of sodium (salt) in the water and produces a disgustingly looking mesh of brown or black matter. Often after this example you may be asked ¨is the kind of water you want to serve your children and family?¨ . The obvious answer is no. However if the same test is made with distilled or good example, innovative spiral filters, remove chlorine and other undesirable substances fully, while allowing trace minerals to pass at the same time as bacteria’s and in most cases viruses are blocked. Osmosis filters on the other hand, although they clean the water effectively, also filter minerals that we need and is therefore less apt to use as drinking water. However buy your water filter with knowledge as there are scare tactics around when being shown the testing of the quality of your water. Often a small digital tool is used (TSD) in order to measure the quantity of residous existing in the water with a horrible results. That instrument measures the electric conductivity of the water and the result varies a lot in normal water but is very low in water which contains little salt to conduct electricity, such as distilled water or water produced with osmosis. It is not a measurement of the content of

The DIRECTORY January 2016

osmosis filtered water the result is more acceptable as that type of water has less sodium. These tests say little about whether the water is healthy or not. Distilled water and osmotically cleansed water lack essential minerals that our body needs. Often these filters are extremely high prized around 1800 euros while they in reality should not cost more than 500 euros including the installation! Pick your water filter system with wisdom. Contact Pies y Bienestar, Calle Pintada 73, in Nerja, Tel: 722188811 if you want to know more about water filters or if you are interested in doing a one hour free test of your metabolism and your feet.

BUSINESS MATTERS

So, here we are – January 2016, and the start of another New Year!! But what are the plans for your business in 2016? • More of the same? • Grand plans to expand your business? • Plans to ‘call it a day’ because it has all got too much? What do you think the New Year is going to do for your business? • Grow bigger? • Shrink? • Stay the same? What is the New Year going to do for your business income? • Increase from last year? • Decline from last year? • Stay the same? What does your business plan say for 2016? Ah, well, um, I don’t actually have a business plan!! In fact, I have never had a business plan, other than to still be here this time next year. So, here are a few ideas for your Business Plan 2016 • Look for every new opportunity and make it work for you • Promise yourself that you will grow your business • Increase your income by increasing your amount of business – NOT just by putting up your prices • Don’t be afraid to ask for help – despite what you think – you DON’T know it all

REMEMBER To do nothing is to guarantee that your business will go backwards In all the years of working with & helping business both large & small, I have never met one that has told me they want to be worse off at the end of the year than they are the beginning. Happy New Year!! – New Year, New Opportunity, and let’s see where we all are at the end of 2016!!

Legal Matters

Well, seeing as it is that time of year again, I thought I would start with a mention of Turkey (groan!!!). Year on year to July, Turkey has seen one of the highest increases in property prices (+18.96%), with the largest investors being the Brits. However, is this simply building a ´bubble´ as it suffered the biggest property crash during the early years of the recession? With its geographical position and the increasing threat of IS in the area I would seriously question whether this is indeed a country to seriously consider investing in.

Do you own property, have a bank account or own a car in Spain? Any asset you own in Spain will have to be transferred to your family or partner at the date of your death. If you don´t have a valid Spanish form will this can cause complications for anyone you want to inherit. This is because in Spain your beneficiaries or heirs will need to prove they can inherit by signing a Deed of Acceptance of inheritance. Firstly the original death certificate is required to obtain a Certificate of last wills from the Central Registry. When you sign the will at the notary he or she is obliged to inform the Central Registry. This will show your name and date of birth with the names of your parents. The certificate states where and when you signed your will. It is then necessary to obtain a certified copy of the last will from the notary. This document and an inventory of your assets is presented at the notary to allow the inheritance to proceed. The inventory has to include bank certificates showing the date of death and a statement showing the average balance during the year prior to the death. Unfortunately after so many bank mergers this can sometimes cause delays in the procedure. All other ownership documents such as property deeds, car ownership and proof of local tax payments for rates - IBI – will need to be provided. It is very important to make the correct inheritance tax declaration even if it is a zero return. Many of our clients want to know what liability their relations or friends will have and an experienced lawyer can calculate the possible inheritance tax. If you do not have a Spanish form will the procedure will be further complicated as your family will need to show they are entitled to receive. For those who are not married or want to leave their property to friends or charities it is even more important to execute a will in Spain. Earlier this month South Africa changed its Finance Minister for the 3rd time in a week. This immediately saw a slump in the Rand & although it has subsequently recovered 5% of its losses, it remains at an all time low. Expect however to see further recovery in the Rand as we are now back to a Finance Minister who has served a term previously & was considered a success. The US has announced its first interest rate rise since 2006. Many see this as the end of ´cheap money’ and we can expect to now experience a further series of rates rises over the next 12 months. Well what has this got to do with us? Overnight we saw a drop of 0.56% in GBP to the USD & a 0.90% drop versus the euro. Back to the UK and we are now at the lowest level of unemployment since 1976, with over 31 million people in employment and wages continuing to rise faster than inflation. An increase in quantitative easing coupled with some relatively positive news in the Eurozone saw some gains against Sterling, however GBP has now stabilized to around the 137.7 mark. Okay, I appreciate I have not mentioned Asia, but I feel we have done enough globetrotting for now. The team will be off on their festive holidays but only on the 25th December and 1st January, we remain open other than then. Have a great time over the holidays and Feliz Navidad

RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGN

WEB WORLD

Take a step into the outside world and you’ll definitely notice a lot of people on their mobile phones. As more and more people are beginning their search on mobile devices, a mobile friendly website is no longer a ‘nice to have’ or ‘tick in the box’ feature - it is ‘must have’ for any business.

What is a responsive website? Responsive websites respond to their environment so you have one website, not only for every device from phones to tablets to netbooks to laptops to desktops, but also different screen sizes and orientations. A responsive design uses the same underlying design, content and maintains the same URL, (web address) across all devices, making it much easier for search engines to find and index your website content.

How important is it?

If your visitor views your website on a mobile device and constantly has to reorientate the device, pinch and zoom, scroll, or squint to read the barely visible text, there is a high probability they will leave your site quickly and negatively associate their experience with your business. The use of mobile devices to surf the web is growing at an astronomical pace according to Google, it now receives over 50% of its searches from mobile devices. If a website is not responsive, or the domain doesn’t have have a mobile-specific site for phone searches, it will no longer be included within Google’s search rankings from iPhones, Androids and tablets. So, what are you waiting for - opt for a responsive web design now! Call Eleanor Makin at Quantum23 to find out more about websites. See ad under Websites 49

Dental Health Dental Erosion

Every time that we eat or drink anything acidic, the enamel becomes softer but our saliva will cancel this acidity, however, if this attack happens too often, the enamel doesn´t have the chance to repair itself and can be brushed away. There are many signs of dental erosion such as sensitivity, teeth discoloration and a change in shape of the teeth. We can prevent dental erosion having acidic drinks and food at mealtime, reducing the number of acid attacks, using a straw to avoid long contact with our teeth. Cheese or milk can help to cancel out the acid. Chewing sugar-free after eating helps to increase saliva production. We need to wait for at least 30 minutes to brush our teeth after eating or drinking anything acidic to give time to our teeth to build up their mineral content. With regular check-ups and advice, your dentist can prevent the problem getting any further.

Happy New Year!

Every New Year is the perfect opportunity to reflect upon who we are, what we have experienced, and what we want to accomplish. Through reflection comes awareness, the perfect foundation to take action! Always keep in mind that while the New Year is a great time to make resolutions, each new day offers the same opportunity for a fresh start! 3 yogic tips and exercises: 1. Set “intentions” instead of “resolutions”. Make your intention short, positive and phrase it in the present tense, like it is already there. When you wake up in the morning, stay seated on the side of your bed for a little while before starting your day. Mentally set you intention for the day, and repeat it on each inhalation, so it becomes a part of you. 2. Keep an open heart to whatever happens. Try to enjoy each new moment, and try to see obstacles as challenges, instead of problems. Anahata: Start on all fours, and walk the arms forward so that the arms are extended in line with the shoulders. Keeping the buttocks up in the air, start to sink the chest and chin down to the earth. If the chest and chin don´t come down easily, rest the forehead on the floor instead. Hold for 10 deep breaths. 3. Stay joyful and playful; remember not to take yourself too serious… Enjoy life! “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift; that´s why we call it: the Present!”

WELLBEING

Dental erosion is the loss of tooth enamel caused by acid attack. The most common cause is by acidic foods and drinks such as fizzy drinks, some alcohol and fruit drinks. Other sources are from exposure to chlorinated swimming pool water and gastric acids regurgitation.

Resolutions? New start! Opportunities!
