February has passed by so quickly and another cold month where northern Spain had severe weather disruptions and for us down here we definitely felt the chill! However it was a very colourful month with local carnivals taking place. I went along to the one in Nerja and it was truly spectacular. The costumes were outstanding, with so much attention to detail, and of course there was a great atmosphere. I captured the parade on camera and posted my video on The Directory social media pages and it went viral ... ok a slight exaggeration but it received an enormous reaction with a huge number of views and shares and fabulous comments from people who are interested in the Nerja area. The Directory audience continues to grow even more, as we use all the technologies available to keep building our audience. Thank you to all the people who sent in photos taken in the Axarquia during February. Please start capturing your images in March and send them in to The Directory by the 15th of March as one will be included in the April issue. An Argentinian man who has been loving cooking since he was a child, thanks to his Italian grandmother who emigrated 70 years ago to Argentina. He inherited her fantastic way of cooking Italian dishes and of course he learnt the Argentinian way to cook meat as well.

THIS MONTHS COCKTAIL The Chicago Cocktail Following a little break in the Windy City I thought about looking for a Cocktail to remind me of our stay there. So from the top of one of the high towers we found The Chicago Cocktail, a blend of Brandy and Champagne, but for Spain I will use Cava.
What will you need: 50 ml brandy dash of bitters dash of Triple Sec
25ml Cava Ice Rocks Glass
As we found as with a lot of the cocktails we tried in the more popular locations they were made by free pour, no need for a shaker or spoon to mix. Method: Place your ice in the glass, and pour our the ingredients as listed, the bitters will mix them selves in with the bubbles of the Cava, a slice of lemon or orange to garnish. Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is a treatment that has been practiced in India for thousands of years and was brought to the west in the 1970’s to include the back, shoulders neck and face. In Western culture today we spend much of our time in our heads, so it works on areas affected by mental and emotional stress so can really help to calm the mind and is surprisingly deeply relaxing. Working with a firm and gentle rhythm it helps to relieve muscular discomfort and tension as well as calming the spirit and aiding relaxation, it also improves circulation in the head, enhances the senses and promotes clear thinking. The massage usually begins with the upper back, where a combination of deep massage and pressure points help to relax the muscles and to loosen and melt knots. Moving through the shoulders and upper arms further releases the common spots for holding stress and tension, and then working deeply into the neck where tension accumulates relieves headaches and tension. Moving up to the scalp, techniques are used that stimulate, relax and revive the whole of the head, increasing circulation and promoting healthy hair. Finally the treatment may include a gentle face massage with techniques that help circulation, skin tone, and sinus and headache problems. This therapy can be performed without oils with the client sitting and fully clothed, so it is ideally suited to the workplace or situations where it may not be appropriate to give a full-body hour long massage. Indian Head Massage will soothe away stress and tension, leaving you relaxed, revitalized and re-energized. Quaintly Spanish The secret to learning Spanish...
People sometimes ask me how I learned to speak Spanish. Well, I will let you in on a little secret, or rather, the secret of a small village called Puente Viejo.... As a student I used to watch a soap called As the world turns. It had this one character I liked, a girl who was always getting into trouble, drinking too much, sleeping with unsuitable guys. I sympathized. So when I started to get a bit chubby (I’ve always had a thing for beer and if you drink student-amounts of it and watch soaps all day, you will get fat!) I decided to combine my love of watching soaps with some exercise: result! An hour a day on a treadmill watching soaps and I was chubby no more. So when I was finally fed up with not speaking Spanish, I decided to find myself a Spanish soap and just watch it every day. I randomly picked one called El Secreto de Puente Viejo on Antena 3. Murder, mayhem & misunderstanding: never a dull moment in Puente Viejo! Took me a while to figure out who’s who, but luckily they are very helpful, calling each other ‘hermano’ or ‘hija’ a lot, so now I can’t wait to find out what’ll happen to the poor guy whose wife has just run off to join the circus. Or the other guy whose wife has kidnapped his mistress and is plotting to steal their love child. Best of all though: my Spanish is coming on in leaps and bounds!

Sausage chopped into bite size pieces Onions cut in rounds Tomatoes cut in rounds Red Chilli cut in rounds Parsley Chopped Butter Bread Olive Oil, Salt and Pepper 1 Tblsp Sugar Put pieces of bread (2 bitesize) on oven tray and sprinkle with oil, salt and pepper. In silver foil, with edges up on same tray sliced tomatoes with chillis, butter and salt and pepper. In a pan cook the onions with butter and sugar and add parsely just before serving. Put the tray under the grill until bread is browned and tomatoes are sizzling. Cook the sausages. Put bread on a platter, cover with onions, sausages and finally tomoatoes etc. Great snak or posh hot dog for an evening with guests.

WHAT´S ON 41CLUB NERJA: Our Club welcomes former Round Tablers from around the world living in Andalucía east of the city of Málaga . We meet twice a every month except July and August. On the first Thursday of the month we have our MUNCH BUNCH where we visit different restaurants at lunch time with our ladies to sample the Menu del Día and on the third Thursday of the month is our “normal” 41 meeting. THE AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL CLUB is a social club serving from Almunecar to Torrox with a philanthropic focus raising funds for spanish charties. Every year a significant donation is given to a local Spanish organization/s as a way of saying “thank you” to our host country. Last year the membership donated thousands of Euros, to a variety of Spanish ONG Charity Organizations. The club hosts monthly outings, bowling, walks, dinners, travel and informal coffee meetings. MĂĄlaga Club de FĂştbol. OLAS Bar are taking a coach to see Granada v Malaga. It will be our first away game. We are now taking bookings. Leaving at lunchtime and spending the afternoon free time in Granada having Tapas etc. The game is at 10pm and we plan to leave straight after the match returning to Nerja around 1.30am Sunday. Please ask in the bar for details as we are getting match tickets direct with Malaga FC. Ladies there is great shopping in Granada and fellas some great bars so come and make a day of it. Price to be confirmed.
