THIS MONTHS COCKTAIL The Thaijito Cocktail To celebrate our 10th anniversary here at H2O on 23rd of May 2015, here is a little number to help remember the last 10 years on Playa Burriana, Nerja As The Mojito has been one of our most popular cocktails over the years, I found this twist on a classic Mojito, to enjoy at home or on our summer terrace. This what you will need • One lemon grass stalk • One lime, quartered • Handful of Thai sweet basil • 1 tbsp brown sugar • 50ml white rum

• 100ml club soda • Old fashioned glass • Muddle stick • A scoop of crushed ice • A bar spoon

Chop lemon grass stalk into 10-15 pieces. Place it with lime, sweet basil, sugar and rum into your glass and muddle for two minutes. Make sure the lemon grass is properly crushed, so its flavour can seep into the rum and lime. Add ice, and mix. Top with club soda and sip slowly. WELLBEING

What to do with the extra kilos? That is a reasonable

question many want answered. Women’s magazines are full of popular advice and, to lower general health costs, Governments spend resources on finding the solution. Common sense and logic tells us that if we eat too much and exercise too little we risk growing out of proportion. The real problem is more complex, but still not impossible to understand. The focus should be away from the number of kilos gained or lost. There are diets that make you lose weight while stressing the body unhealthily. Body fat weighs very little in comparison to bone, muscles, blood and water. Thus the number of overweight people is skyrocketing while, over the last 20 years, the consumption of fat has gone down almost 40%. That is why fad, or celebrity diets, do not work. They make you lose liquids and muscle more than fat. You lose weight and your health suffers. The pressures on the celebrities to always look their best make them abuse their bodies with destructive diets, pills and surgery. They look good for the moment but may later look like 90 years old when they are 70. It is necessary to change ones way of life. The current life style led to the condition. The state of mind and physical condition is different for each individual. There is no solution that works for everyone. Some people look for food that does not make them fat. Food without nutrition may be damaging to health. At the same time there are people who can eat anything without putting on an ounce of weight. Clearly we are different. There are basic nutritional rules to follow. Vitamins and minerals and other prerequisites that make it possible for the body to generate the energy necessary for physical, social and mental well-being. Having the metabolism working optimally, is crucial and means eating a balanced diet and feel stronger and more alive day by day without extra kilos preparing for future illnesses. Come and see us at Pies y Bienestar, Calle Pintada 73, in Nerja for a free foot analysis and metabolism test.

Legal Matters

PROPERTY OWNERSHIP AND DECLARATION OF NEW WORK – OBRA NUEVA During the building boom in Spain many properties were extended with new rooms, garages, patios and swimming pools built to increase the value and attractiveness of the property. In most cases the owners were advised to ask for and obtain a licence from the Town Hall and subsequently to make a declaration before a notary called a declaration of new work – Escritura de obra nueva. This was then registered at the land registry and an application made to change the map at the Catastro – rating authority. What do you do if your property was extended or you have a pool or garage that has not been added to the deeds? To commence the procedure you will need to review any documents obtained by your architect, builder or your own plans if it was a self-build. If the property was extended or built more than 6 years ago you can normally appoint an arquitecto tecnico (surveyor) to come to the property and draw up a plan or to confirm that the construction has been there for more than 6 years. Lawyers can recommend professionals who can assist. If the construction was not in accordance with local or regional rules you will need specialist advice. Unfortunately in some cases the situation cannot be remedied so take advice before commencing the procedure. Once you have the plan your lawyer will need to know about the monies provided for the new work. A value has to be given to the work and a tax of 1.5% paid once the deed is signed. The lawyer will provide the notary with all the documents and you will sign the deed or grant a power of attorney to the lawyer to sign on your behalf. This deed is then presented to the land registry. This is particularly important if you want to sell the property. If it has not been done a retention will generally be made on the sale price and this money only released when the procedure is complete. The Catastro will also need to be changed and Town halls are now updating all their records to ensure this is done. However please bear in mind this can take a very long time but if you have proof of the application being made the sale would normally proceed. You will also need the Energy Efficiency Certificate – CEE before sale. Consult experts in property law in Spain email:

Currency News BORROWING COSTS PLUMMET AS EURIBOR HITS ALL-TIME LOW

The cost of borrowing in Europe continues to drop, which is great news for investors. Rates are falling to historic lows: The 12-month Euro Interbank Offer Rate (Euribor) of interest slid to an all-time low of 0.198. Rates have more than halved from this time last year. Euribor is expected to remain at very low levels for the foreseeable future. Favourable currency exchange rates are making the investment environment particularly welcoming to foreign buyers. Buyers from Britain are benefitting from the pound’s strength against the euro; at the beginning of April 2015, £1 was worth around €1.38. Swiss buyers are also in a better position than they were a year ago, after the Swiss National Bank decoupled its franc from the euro. However, while it’s becoming ever-cheaper for foreign investors to buy in Spain, it certainly can’t beat the recent deal in which a fourbedroom house sold for only €10 in Spain’s firstever house raffle.

The Bolumar family had inherited the house and originally listed it for €90,000, but after the struggling Spanish property market failed to find a buyer they came up with their innovative solution - of the Spanish house raffle. More than 32,000 tickets were eventually sold for €10 each by the Bolumars

Whether you’re moving to Spain or transferring money overseas, keep on top of the currency market. The friendly experts at Currencies Direct are only a phone call away whenever you need them. At home in Spain since 1999, they have eight offices across the country, including info@decottalaw.net or Tel 952 527014 one in Tenerife, and are set to open more Spanish offices soon. What are Essential Oils ?

Essential oils are the natural, aromatic volatile liquids found in shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. They can be thought of as nature´s living energy. Each oil is made up of a variety of components, or constituents, and has its own distinctive chemistry. In the plant, the distinctive components in essential oils defend plants against insects, environmental conditions, and disease. They are also vital for a plant to grow, live, evolve, and adapt to its surroundings. For humans, each oil’s distinctive components give the oil special qualities that have specific effects on the human body, whether inhaled, taken internally or applied directly. Today, essential oils are used for aromatherapy, nutritional supplements, massage therapy, diffusing, emotional health, personal care, household cleaning, repelling insects, and much more. What Are The Benefits Of Essential Oils? • Essential oils have been used medicinally to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Many essential oils are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-viral. Research shows that most viruses, fungi and bacteria cannot live in the presence of many essential oils. •They have provided exquisite fragrances to balance mood, lift spirits, get rid of negative emotions and create a romantic atmosphere. •They can stimulate the regeneration of tissue or stimulate nerves. They can even act to oxygenate and carry nutrients into the cells. •Therapeutic-grade essential oils contain highly oxygenating components that help transport oxygen and nutrients to various parts of the body. •They also aid in removing carbon dioxide, toxins and other wastes. •The aromas of the oils help balance electrical frequencies of the brain allowing it to function more optimally and efficiently. •Essential oils also affect the limbic system positively, where reason, emotion, and smell are processed in a significant way. •When inhaled, certain components of essential oils help release emotional trauma. Therapeutic-grade essential oils offer natural solutions to many of today’s needs. The tiny molecules easily pass through cell walls and membranes, delivering therapeutic benefits directly where they are needed and throughout the entire body when applied on the feet. Young Living Essential Oils, the leading provider of essential oils, offers more than 300 essential oil singles and blends. All Young Living essential oils meet the Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ (YLTG) standard. This means that every essential oil Young Living distills or sources is completely pure and natural and has the highest naturally-occurring blend of constituents to maximize the desired effect.

Quaintly Spanish Married at first sight

Recently I talked about my secret for learning Spanish: watching Spanish soaps! However lately watching my soap of choice, El secreto de Puente Viejo, has become a bit of a chore, yadda-yadda stolen baby, and they just won’t get on with it! So I decided to take a break and started watching this new reality show called Casados a primera vista, ‘married at first sight’. Eight real people are selected by a computer to get married to someone they’ve never met before. First there’s a wedding, which is also the very first time they, and their families, meet. Great stuff: one bride got drunk and picked a fight with her new mother in law. Another made her groom cry. Move over boring stolen baby, now there’s some real drama for you! Next they get thirty days to test drive their newly minted marriage by living together. Cue varying shades of hell and misunderstanding. One of the contestants is a Belgian guy called Laurent and among fans of the show he’s become a bit of a hero (‘San Laurent’) for putting up with his harpy of a wife, Toñi, who wakes him up at silly o’clock every morning, poor man, and comments on every blessed thing he does. At the end they have to decide to either stay married or get divorced. And all this just so I can improve my Spanish!
