BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION Landscape architects work with their clients during the conception, design and construction stages of a project. Elements that need to be taken into consideration range from; climate and microclimate; topography and orientation; site drainage and groundwater discharge; native and exotic plants; property safety and security; through to the different disciplines of construction. Gardens are dynamic rather than static spaces. After the construction and planting are completed, they will continue to evolve. Our involvement with landscape management and direction, evolution and care, always reflects the client’s needs and inclinations as they change over time. Landscape architects share with garden designers a concern for the planning and design of outdoor space. As with the other interrelated landscape disciplines, there can be an overlap of services offered under the title of landscape architect. The range of work undertaken by landscape architects extends from detailed design to the broad scale landscape planning. Many landscape architects have an interest in and involvement with gardening, both personally or professionally. At LT Construction we are passionate about landscape design and want to help you realise your dream of a garden that reflects your aesthetic tastes and functional needs.

HAIRDRESSERS continued ... RUMOURS Hair Salon in Puente don Manuel. This month why not take advantage of the Colour, Cut and Blow dry offer with Jade. Brighten up your hair colour. Solid brown can be dull, but milk chocolate swirled together with bittersweet and extra-dark is an irresistible combination. Going red is a bold move! It is important to first and foremost consider your skin tone. Are you fair? Olive? Bright, fiery reds perfectly complement the natural warmth of fair to light-medium complexions by highlighting the “peaches and cream” undertones. In the image beside, three different shades of red are used to create dimension and add shimmer like a flickering flame. Now, that’s a gorgeous redhead! If you are a natural blonde, you know that there are many ways to play with your hue—all over highlights, lowlights or even a subtle ombre fade. The transformation was achieved by perfectly placing lowlights and highlights to provide contrast and emphasize shine. Bring your hair to life this month with colour by Jade. Call 951 139 159 or 625 223 829 to book your appointment.

THIS MONTHS COCKTAIL Guy Fawkes Cocktail.

Remember, remember the 5th of November, gun powder and treason, well all the English do, so I will not do a history lesson. Just let you in on this little number that might not blow up the Houses of Parliament, but should give your insides a warm rumble.

This drink brings together Guy Fawkes English roots with Drambuie along side his Spanish exploits using sherry, overlaid by the smokiness of Islay Scotch Whiskey to evoke the infamous Gunpowder Plot of 1605. You will need. A cocktail shaker 3 to 4 ice cubes A rocks glass. 50 ml Drambuie 23 ml Islay Single Malt Wiskey

25 ml Dry Sherry 5 drops of Bitters Grapefruit peel

Place all but the peel in a shaker. Shake vigorously until cold Strain into a chilled rocks glass over ice. Take your peel twist and flame the spray at the same time over the glass and then drop in to the glass.

REAL ESTATE GUIDE REAL ESTATE GUIDE LIVING IN SPAIN

When considering relocating to a different country, southern Spain is a favourite destination for many northern Europeans and here are a few reasons why!

The weather

Generally speaking, the further south you go, the better the weather so if a warm climate is a priority, then Spain has to be a good option! The temperate Mediterranean climate of long, dry, warm summers and short mild winters is a winner for northern Europeans. The sun shines even during the winter months and daytime temperatures can reach in excess of 20C.

The outdoor life

Life in southern Spain is very much geared to outdoor activities and people tend to spend more time outside than they do inside. Bear this in mind when buying a property as outside space can often be more important than inside space.

The way of life

The relaxed and laid back way of life is very appealing and easy to get used to however opening hours can be frustrating at times! Normally 1000 – 1400 and 1700 – 1900 and no Sunday opening (some shops do open on Sundays during the summer months and in the run up to Christmas).

Integration

It is important to learn the language of the country you decide to relocate to and Spain is no exception. The Spanish are by and large very sociable, friendly people and when you attempt to speak their language, they will encourage you and help you out so don’t be frightened to try. They are also very welcoming and are keen for foreigners to participate in local events.

Plenty to do

So much to choose from all year round! • • • •

Sunbathing on the beach and swimming in the sea. Walking, cycling or horse riding in the mountains and countryside. Lunching on the coast or in one of the inland villages. Sightseeing in towns and cities.

In addition to the many local fiestas which take place throughout the year, there are also plenty of societies and clubs offering year round social, cultural and sporting activities so there is no need to ever become bored!

RECIPE BY TINA CHILLIES

Chillies come in all shapes, sizes, colours and degrees of hot infusion. Used correctly in cooking they can enhance flavour and add background heat. Or if desired a reliably hot bed of fusion to all food types. At the moment they are all readily available but soon this will not be the case. So I prefer to preserve them and have an abundant supply. Maybe the easiest way is to freeze directly and use from the freezer but I prefer to have my own jar of inkstand hotbed infusion which I learnt whilst in Mauritius. Please remember to keep it chilled. 250 g Chillies 3 Onions 2 Tablespoons of grated Ginger 2 Tablespoons White Vinegar 10 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil

WINDOWS & DOORS Receive a gift when you request a quotation from Busch. To qualify take a copy of The Directory with you.

Blend chilli, onions and ginger to paste, mix in vinegar. Put in heated pan, add oil and simmer away fluid. Do not burn! Cool and put in sterile jar. Top with vegetable oil and put in fridge. Easy and fab!

Tina is happy to help with your cooking dilemmas and is also available for parties etc . She does cooking for holidaymakers and clients. Recently donating a meal cooked in your own home to a local charity. Call Tina on 666 135 516 or Email officespanishmanagement@yahoo. co.uk

WELLBEING WELLBEING

Are All Fats Bad for You? You’ve might have heard the term “essential fats” which refers to omega-3 and omega-6 fats and this is because our bodies cannot make them, they must be obtained from food. Both of these polyunsaturated fatty acids are necessary for health, but maintaining a healthy balance of the two is extremely important. Let’s talk about why. Omega-6s are considered to increase inflammation in the body, whereas omega-3s help to decrease inflammation. Having too many omega-6s and too few omega3s in the diet has been linked to heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes so improving your ratio of these fats may also help you to balance your hormones and boost the functioning of your immune system.

Getting omega-6s in the diet is very easy: most people are probably getting way more omega-6s than they need. Omega-6s are found in nuts, seeds, beans, and grains; they’re also in the vegetable oils that go into a vast array of processed snack foods. Commercial eggs, poultry, and meats are all high in omega-6s, too, because commercial animals are fed grains. Omega-3 fats are much harder to get through food and the body needs to function properly. The essential fatty acids that are most important to the body are ALA, DHA and EPA and have numerous health benefits. Why are omega-3s good for us? • According to numerous studies, omega-3s can lower blood pressure. • Fish oil can also cut triglyceride levels by 20% to 50% & additional research shows us that cardiovascular health is also greatly improved. • Omega-3 fatty acids appear to lower the overall risk of death from heart disease. • Arrhythmias (irregular heart rate) may be reduced by fish oil and people who take omega-3 after suffering from a heart attack cut their risk of having another heart attack significantly. • The risk of stroke can also be reduced by eating fish once or twice a week. • Numerous studies have found that omega-3 fatty acids can reduce stiffness and joint pain. • Research has found that cultures that eat food with high levels of omega-3s have lower levels of depression in their society. • Other studies have shown that fish oil can help with osteoporosis by improving bone density. You can find more • Although preliminary, there is some additional evidence information on my website that omega-3s also helps to control Alzheimer’s disease www.meiflynn.com or follow and dementia.

Make sure you’re not avoiding all fats but eating the right fats. 38

The Simple-Difficult Question You are on your success journey, so let’s explore the most simple-difficult question you will probably ever face. Before you can utilise the tools discussed so far in this series, you have to know what you are using them on. Therefore the next step is to be clear about what you want by answering the simple-difficult question:

PART 4

“What do I really want?” This is often the most challenging part of the success process – and it must be right at the beginning! For many people, everything that follows from successfully answering this question is easier! It is imperative that you answer this question with what you want, and not with what you don’t want! Do not include any negative words in your answer to what you want. “I want to be financially secure.” Is not the same as: “I don’t want to be poor.” It may seem like the result would be the same but your mind will deliver two entirely different results: financial security for the first and poverty for the second. It will not deliver financial security for “I don’t want to be poor.” Once you are clear about what you want you can develop the best attitudes, create the best beliefs, and create the Big Dream that will support your success. Now you can start to define the required outcomes needed to achieve what you want. The outcomes will form the action plan that will create your reality of success. To learn more about my ‘Outcome Thinking’ programme workshops contact me. Exercise – What Do You Really Want? 1. Ask yourself now the simple-difficult question: “What do I really want?” 2. To overcome doubts use this version of the question: “If success is guaranteed, and money is no obstacle, what would you do/be/have?” 3. Make a list of at least 30 things you want to have or to achieve in the next year. Next time we will explore the next most powerful tool of success. Hi, I’m Liz, micro-brewer, writer & translator and I also volunteer at Axarquia Animal Rescue. So let me start by saying: please neuter your pets! It’s the one thing you can do that’s much more effective than donating money, or clothes, or anything else you could possibly do. A Spanish friend of mine (but this is by no means just Spanish men, it’s lots of men!) said that he couldn’t possibly neuter his dog, as he wouldn’t want that done to himself either. Pretty lame excuse, as I pointed out to him: he wouldn’t want to eat his food from a bowl on the floor either, yet that’s what he makes his dog do. Or be left behind in the car while the rest of his family go off to the cinema. Or do his business outside, with a chain around his neck, while people are a) watching him and b) telling him to hurry! Ever since we had this little chat, I don’t get invited to my friend’s house so much. But of course all of you, dear readers, are sensible, responsible people, who’ve neutered your pets ages ago, so here’s another wonderful way to contribute: shopping. Christmas is right around the corner, so why not shop online AND donate to charity without it costing you a cent??!! Well here’s how: Go to www.easyfundraising.org.uk, sign up and look for Axarquia Animal Rescue, or any other charity you like (see the Animal Rescue Category on page 7). If you order anything via the links on the site those charities will get a small percentage. So you can shop AND support our doggies at the same time! Shops include John Lewis, Amazon, Next, Vodafone, Tesco and many more! Time to get yourself something really nice I reckon....x Liz Facebook.com/CabrazulComares
