Letter from The Dwight School Foundation Board Chair Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Dwight,
For nearly a decade, I have had the privilege of serving as a trustee of The Dwight School Foundation, alongside a cadre of caring supporters who devote their time and resources to Foundation initiatives: Board members, Foundation staff, and, of course, all of you who so generously support Dwight’s commitment to innovation in education. With your contributions to the Annual Fund this year, we were able to provide 50 percent of all student financial aid awarded, and 130 professional development grants to faculty Susan Kessler to bring the latest knowledge back to campus to benefit all students. In addition, with the launch of Spark Tank, The Foundation funded seven innovation grants for students who are developing their own entrepreneurial spark of genius and one $2,500 college scholarship for reaching the launch stage. I’m proud that The Foundation itself proved to be innovative by launching this exciting program, which has already garnered international media attention; and we have Dave Lindsey (David ’18, Maggie ’19, Jackie Ray ’21), Chair of the Spark Tank Committee, and his fellow members to thank for such a successful first year. In the months ahead, I look forward to sharing similar progress for a second new program, Art Spark, created for students passionate about the arts with additional opportunities to nurture their talent. At this year’s Spring Benefit, aptly titled “Passport to Innovation,” we celebrated Dwight’s commitment to cutting-edge programs and netted nearly $300,000, while sharing a festive evening as a community. I want to thank the Spring Benefit Committee, chaired by Gina Gray (Teagan ’29), Heather Kibbe (Edel ’25), and Bernadette Mastrangel (Louisa Deyer ’25), for its hard work and dedication to making this event a smashing success, along with all the other volunteers who helped The Foundation reach new heights throughout 2015-16: The Board of Trustees; the Annual Fund Committee, under the

leadership of Chairs Kim Saperstein ’92 (Aaron ’17, Benno ’19, Lexi ’21 Colodne) and Julie Stratopoulos (Ava ’25, Kira ’27); the Senior Gift Committee, chaired by Henrietta Jones Pellegrini (Zoe Vorisek ’16); the Alumni Council, chaired by Peter Timmins ’90; and the Parents Association, guided by Sandrine Droumenq (Chloe ’21). I’d like to extend our sincere thanks to Paula Oppenheim Cope ’71 for her years of dedicated service as a member of our Board of Trustees and Alumni Council. Paula’s devotion to her alma mater has always been evident, and we especially appreciate her work on the Financial Aid and Faculty Professional Development Grants Committees. As a parent of Dwight graduates, I have seen first-hand how the School’s commitment to innovation and personalized learning translates into an unparalleled educational experience for students. Further distinguishing Dwight from other independent schools is Chancellor Stephen Spahn, a visionary and one of New York City’s longest-serving school leaders. He has devoted 50 years to Dwight and to igniting the spark of genius in generations of children. We all benefit from the stability and consistency he brings, matched by his unparalleled commitment to personally mentoring students. Chancellor Spahn, together with Head of School Dianne Drew and Vice Chancellor Blake Spahn, make for an extraordinary leadership team deeply committed to our children’s success — one student at a time. I look forward to seeing more sparks of innovation across campus in the year ahead and thank you for your continued support. Warmly, Susan Kessler (Stephen ’10, William ’14) Board Chair, The Dwight School Foundation

On behalf of our faculty and students, beneficiaries of The Foundation’s generosity, we thank The Foundation and its Board of Trustees, Chair Susan Kessler, and all the Board Committee chairs and members who devote their time and energy to raising funds in support of Dwight throughout the year.

The Quad named in honor of the Class of 2016 In recognition of the senior class families and the effort of the Senior Gift Committee, which raised over $450,000 for The Dwight School Foundation’s Annual Fund, Dwight’s Quad will be dedicated in honor of the Class of 2016. A plaque commemorating the Class of 2016 will be installed in the Quad — the heart of campus — as a perpetual reminder of their unique impact on Dwight.

Spring Benefit A highlight from this school year was The Dwight School Foundation’s Spring Benefit, held at espace. More than 400 members of the community came together to support Dwight, netting nearly $300,000 for student financial aid, faculty professional development, and innovation grants. The elegant evening included a sit-down dinner, DJ, dancing, and a video showcasing the impact of professional development grants on Dwight faculty and students. A special thanks to our emcee, Dianne Drew, and our extraordinary auctioneer, Cate Smit.

The Dwight School Foundation and Dwight School In-Kind Donors and Volunteers
We would like to acknowledge the following groups that play a critical role in supporting The Dwight School Foundation’s efforts: The Dwight School Foundation Trustees advise and work in conjunction with the Chancellor,
Head of School, and The Foundation’s Advancement Office to think critically about how Foundation resources can positively impact the lives of Dwight students and faculty. The Annual Fund Committee solicits gifts from members of the Dwight community to provide support for student financial aid and innovation grants, and faculty professional development. The Senior Gift Committee solicits Annual Fund gifts from twelfth grade families and helps
identify spaces or items to be named in honor of the graduating class. The Spark Tank Committee advises, mentors, and approves funding for K-12 student projects. The Spring Benefit Committee organizes and promotes The Foundation’s largest community event. The Parents Association Executive Committee works closely with The Foundation to promote Foundation initiatives within the parent body. The PA President is an ex-officio member of The Foundation Board of Trustees. The Alumni Council and Class Representatives help identify and promote meaningful ways for graduates to get involved with the School and stay connected with each other.

Letter from the Vice Chancellor
become one of our most sought-after programs. We were thrilled by how quickly students dove into our incubator, demonstrating their unbridled creativity and boundless entrepreneurial spirit. As we move into year two, we anticipate that even more students will participate and impress us with their ingenuity.
Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Dwight,
As illustrated in this Annual Report, 2015-16 was a year filled with great energy and achievement for The Dwight School Foundation and our entire community. We have much to be proud of — and even more to look forward to in the months and years to come. Innovation is woven into Dwight’s DNA and drove a number of this year’s new initiatives, most notably Spark Tank, which thanks to support from The Dwight School Foundation, has quickly

As an institution, Dwight has always been ahead of the curve and recognized globally as a pioneering International Baccalaureate World School. That means that we have long been committed to upholding the highest academic standards while also pursuing IB curricular innovation. We are proud that our faculty are so dedicated to seeking new approaches to spark student minds and imaginations. We all understand the importance of providing students at a very young age with opportunities to create and discover both inside and outside the classroom. Dwight, as an urban campus, has designed innovative, multi-use spaces in which students can do just that by building SATURN and MARS on our rooftop.
We are also excited to be celebrating a milestone for our family and Dwight School in 2016-17: Chancellor Spahn’s 50th year in education. My father has always believed that education must be a driver, not a follower, which is why Dwight has remained on the cutting edge. While trailblazing and taking Dwight in exciting new directions over the course of five decades, he has never wavered from his singular commitment to igniting the spark of genius in every child. This has shaped our School and my own belief that a personalized education prepares students to be passionate about their convictions and successful in their pursuits. As an alumnus, I am grateful to be a beneficiary of a Dwight education; as Vice Chancellor, I am proud to continue this long-standing tradition to benefit generations of students in the years to come. Warm regards,
Blake Spahn Vice Chancellor, Dwight School

Ways to Give The Annual Fund is The Foundation’s most important fundraising effort and it is vital to the success of the school. There are many different ways you can make a contribution: Cash - All cash (including check and credit card) gifts are fully
tax-deductible. Gifts can be made using the attached pledge envelope or online at www.dwight.edu/givingtodwight.
Securities - A gift of appreciated stock, which has been held
for more than one year, allows you to avoid the capital gains tax on the appreciation. It also qualifies you for an income tax
charitable deduction based on the fair-market value of the stock on the date you make the gift.
Matching Gift - Matching gifts are an easy way to increase the
value of your contribution. If you and/or your spouse work for a
matching gift company, please obtain the necessary form from your personnel office and send it along with your gift to The Dwight School Foundation. Make a Pledge - Pledges can be fulfilled with one payment or multiple payments and simply need to be completed in full by June 30, 2017. AmazonSmile - Support The Dwight School Foundation every
time you shop, at no cost to you. Every eligible purchase you make on AmazonSmile will result in a 0.5% donation to The Dwight School Foundation. Make Dwight your charity of choice by going to smile.amazon.com today.
For questions about the Annual Fund, please contact Amy Tsoutsouras '05, Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs, at 646.400.0314 or atsoutsouras@dwight.edu.
The Dwight School Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit entity that was established in 1969 to provide financial aid to Dwight students and professional development grants to Dwight faculty. The Foundation expanded to include Spark Tank grants to students in 2015. This report gratefully acknowledges gifts between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016. Names are listed as requested by each donor on the annual fund envelope. Best efforts were made to ensure the accuracy of this report.
