Letter from the Chancellor and Head of School
Year-in and year-out, we are grateful to The Foundation for providing student financial aid and supporting Dwight’s world-class faculty in their quest for knowledge through professional development grants. Thanks to these grants, faculty members continue their education or pursue opportunities that tap into their own spark of genius. In so doing, they bring learning and inspiration back to the classroom to benefit students directly and enrich the entire Dwight community. Benefit revenues, totaling more than $2.1M. Included was $182,000 for the Foundation’s groundbreaking Spark of Innovation Fund introduced at the very lively “Shake it Up!” Spring Benefit. This new fund is paving the way for students in kindergarten–grade 12 to tap into their imaginations and entrepreneurial spirits beyond the classroom. They, along with faculty, can now apply for grants to develop ideas with real-world applications and introduce them to the marketplace. We couldn’t be more excited by the prospects…or more proud of the enthusiasm and support our community displayed when the fund was inaugurated. Together, we are a family deeply dedicated to ensuring the success of every student on campus — and to sparking a better world through innovation for all. Letter from The Dwight School Foundation Board Chair
Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Dwight, As I enter my eighth year as a Trustee of The Dwight School Foundation, I am delighted to serve alongside such dedicated Board members, Foundation staff, and generous parents, alumni, and friends of Dwight who devote their time and resources to the initiatives of The Foundation.
Additionally, we thank all the volunteers who helped The Foundation reach new heights of success in 2014-15: The Board of Trustees, Annual Fund Committee, Senior Gift Committee, Spring Benefit Committee, Parents Association, and Alumni Council. Their efforts were key to garnering support for fundraising efforts and attendance at Foundation events.
This year, thanks to your support of the Annual Fund, we were able to fund upwards of 50 percent of all financial aid awarded to students and provide 168 educational grants to Susan Kessler faculty to pursue enriching professional development opportunities to bring cutting-edge knowledge back to benefit students. We also completed our twoyear funding effort of the STEAM initiative to integrate technology deeper into the classroom experience.
Dwight stands out among its independent school peers not only for providing a world-class IB education, attracting the finest faculty, and maintaining an unwavering commitment to personalized learning, but for having New York City’s longest-serving school leader in Stephen Spahn. He is a visionary who has devoted 50 years to Dwight. We benefit from the stability, consistency and unparalleled commitment Chancellor Spahn brings to personally mentoring each and every student, every day. He, along with Head of School Dianne Drew, and Vice-Chancellor Blake Spahn, make for a powerful team dedicated to ensuring the success of every child and their individual spark of genius.
The Board of Trustees announced the launch of the new Spark of Innovation Program at this year’s well-attended Spring Benefit in April. Now students and faculty can apply for monetary grants for innovative and creative projects that demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and have real-world applications. As one-third of students today will create their own jobs, and top universities are already investing in bringing novel student work to market, Dwight is paving the way for younger students to take innovation beyond the classroom. We thank our community for supporting the launch of this worthy initiative and will keep you apprised of Dwight’s entrepreneurs as their inventions take shape.
6
I look forward to another exciting year and thank you for your continued support. Warmly, Susan Kessler (Parent ’10 and ’14) Board Chair, The Dwight School Foundation
Three Pillars of the Dwight Community
A Dwight world-class education rests on three pillars: Personalized Learning Dwight embraces the individuality of each learner as no two students are the same. Dwight supports these student journeys through a robust academic curriculum and after-school program. Dwight makes it a priority to focus on and develop each child’s spark of genius. Whether connecting a student with an exceptional mentor, designing tailor-made enrichment, crafting a special study abroad opportunity, or providing an innovative program or tutorial, Dwight recognizes and fosters each student’s gifts and talents. Community Dwight’s community is a family of diverse individuals whose collective goal is to build a better world. The power of our learning environment is enhanced by connecting and valuing the different contributions and talents of all members. Through unlimited service, leadership, programmatic, and scholarship opportunities, we inspire students to find their own unique paths to action. Global Vision Dwight’s mission, vision and pillars extend globally across our network of schools and is supported by the International Baccalaureate ethos. Students develop a sense of themselves, as well as the world around them. Dwight opens students’ hearts and minds through challenges and opportunities, inviting students to build bridges with and between cultures. Dwight is the flagship campus and founding member of The Dwight Schools, which includes campuses in London, Seoul, Shanghai, and on Vancouver Island.

Spring Benefit A highlight from this school year was The Dwight School Foundation’s Spring Benefit, held at 583 Park Avenue. More than 400 members of the community came together to support Dwight, netting $332,412 for student financial aid, faculty professional development, and the newly-announced Spark of Innovation Program. The elegant evening included a sit-down dinner, DJ, dancing, and a video showcasing the Spark of Innovation Program. A special thanks to our emcee, Dianne Drew, and our extraordinary auctioneer, Cate Smit.

The Spark of Innovation Program supports Dwight students (grades K-12) with monetary grants for innovative and creative projects that demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, and have real-world applications. As one-third of students today will create their own jobs, and top universities are already investing in bringing novel student work to market, Dwight is paving the way for younger students to take innovation beyond the classroom. We are extremely grateful to the following contributors for helping us raise over $182,000 for this exciting intiative. Spark of Innovation Fund Donors Anonymous (4)

The Dwight School Foundation and Dwight School In-Kind Donors and Volunteers
We would like to acknowledge the following groups that play a critical role in supporting The Dwight School Foundation’s efforts: The Dwight School Foundation Trustees advise and work in conjunction with
the Chancellor, Head of School, and The Foundation’s Advancement Office to think critically about how Foundation resources can positively impact the lives of Dwight students and faculty. The Annual Fund Committee solicits gifts from members of the Dwight community to provide support for student financial aid and faculty professional development. The Senior Gift Committee solicits Annual Fund gifts from twelfth grade families
and helps identify a space to be named in honor of the graduating class. The Spring Benefit Committee organizes and promotes The Foundation’s largest
community event. The Parents Association welcomes and connects parents to the community, promotes volunteerism, encourages attendance at school events, and helps address parent concerns to support faculty and build community spirit. The Alumni Council and Class Representatives help identify and promote mean-
ingful ways for graduates to get involved with the School and stay connected with each other.

Letter from the Vice Chancellor
Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Dwight,
This Annual Report clearly showcases what a great year we’ve had — and our future looks even brighter! As an alumnus, I have a unique opportunity to share my perspective of how far Dwight has come since the days when I was a student — and as Vice Chancellor, I am delighted to convey my pride that Dwight has since been recognized worldwide as a leader and a force destined to shape the future of education.
68
When I walked the halls as a student, our curriculum was similar to that of other independent schools; we had yet to adopt the rich and engaging International Baccalaureate that Dwight embraces so strongly today. Similarly, at that time, our School reflected the local New York community, not the vibrant international student body that we celebrate now.
With the recent launch of the “Culture of Innovation” curriculum initiative, Dwight has been forging ahead with the integration of exciting new learning opportunities for students, while also carving out new rooftop spaces designed to spark creativity, known as the SATURN PAVILION and MARS PAVILION.
What has remained consistent and unwavering is Dwight’s dedication to igniting the spark of genius in every child. Indeed, we can trace our commitment to personalized learning all the way back to 1872, when our School was founded.
In addition, the introduction of the Spark of Innovation Program is inspiring students and faculty to apply for Foundation grants to transform their novel ideas and innovations into reality. Our commitment to nurturing student entrepreneurship extends from the classroom to after-school programs and beyond. We look forward with great enthusiasm to seeing our students tap into their infinite imaginations and ingenuity as never before.
As a student here, I had the benefit of receiving an education in which my interests and talents were nurtured, opening the door for greater learning both within and outside the classroom. The same is true for students today. Combining this core spark of genius philosophy with the academically rigorous IB and our international perspective, Dwight offers students the finest education available and the ideal preparation for success in today’s competitive global marketplace.
Warm regards,
Blake Spahn Vice Chancellor, Dwight School

Ways to Give The Annual Fund is The Foundation’s most important fundraising effort and it is vital to the success of the school. There are many different ways you can make a contribution: Cash - All cash (including check and credit card) gifts are fully
tax-deductible. Gifts can be made using the attached pledge envelope or online at www.dwight.edu/givingtodwight.
Securities - A gift of appreciated stock, which has been held
for more than one year, allows you to avoid the capital gains tax on the appreciation. It also qualifies you for an income tax
charitable deduction based on the fair-market value of the stock on the date you make the gift.
Matching Gift - Matching gifts are an easy way to increase the
value of your contribution. If you and/or your spouse work for a
matching gift company, please obtain the necessary form from your personnel office and send it along with your gift to The Dwight School Foundation. Make a Pledge - Pledges can be fulfilled with one payment or
multiple payments and simply need to be completed in full by June 30, 2016. AmazonSmile - AmazonSmile is a way to support The Dwight
School Foundation every time you shop, at no cost to you. Every eligible purchase you make on AmazonSmile will result in a 0.5% donation to The Dwight School Foundation. Make Dwight your charity of choice by going to smile.amazon.com today.
For questions about the Annual Fund, please contact Susan Beyrle (Parent ’07), Director of Development, at 646.400.0309 or sbeyrle@dwight.edu.
The Dwight School Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit entity that was established in 1969 to provide financial aid to Dwight students and professional development grants to Dwight faculty. This report gratefully acknowledges gifts between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015. Names are listed as requested by each donor on the annual fund envelope. Best efforts were made to ensure the accuracy of this report. If there are omissions or errors, please notify Mark Lipari in the Foundation’s Advancement Office at 646.400.0313.
