The Inspector General (Prisons), Bipin Kumar Singh on Saturday clarified that Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, did not attempt to commit suicide. “She was taking multi-vitamins, but she had not taken overdose of any medicine. She took the medicine in front of the guard. She did not attempt to commit suicide. There is no evidence of any foul play, sabotage or conspiracy or attempt to commit suicide,” Singh told the media here. Mukerjea was admitted to J.J. hospital in Mumbai in unconscious condition after she complained of ‘uneasiness due to chest pain’ on October 2 at the Byculla prison. She was discharged four days later on October 6. Mukherjea was arrested on August 24 for the murder of Sheena Bora, her daughter from an earlier relationship, in 2012. She has been accused of killing her over a financial dispute, with the help of her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver.

Journalist killed in car accident in Paikan, Assam

Diphu, Oct 11: Chandra Sing Engti, the religious chief of Karbi community popularly known as ‘Katherbura’ or chief of faith in the house of Karbi Monarch Ronghang Rongbong (Capital of Karbi Kingdom) near Hamren, in West Karbi Anglong district passed away yesterday at 4.30 pm. He was 59 years who was a researcher and on a mission to draft the Karbi customary law as chief convener of the committee; he was installed in the post of the religious chief in 2007 and remained in position till his death. Several dignitaries including Tuliram Ronghang Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and Arun Terang president of Karbi Anglong district BJP have expressed grief and sorrow over the untimely demise of Chandra Sing Engti. Diphu, Oct 11: Two explosive runners identified as Yein Pai and Singhong Konyan were held by E-155 battalion CRPF manning the police check gate on national highway 39, in Bokajan town near Cement Corporation of India factory from a passenger bus bearing No. NL 11-2388 coming from Dimapur. Explosives recovered included 250 gelatin sticks, 600 detonators and 60 meter of fuse wire. Both the persons were handed over to Bokajan police who later arrested them and produced them at Diphu court today. The passenger bus was allowed passage by police after the routine check. The road culvert which is five meters in length and four meter in width being constructed to join the sinking zone at Banderdewa area was due for completion last month, as per the Chief Engineer, Executive Engineer of the PWD, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. However, the culvert is not even half completed until today. When asked, a local contractor handling the project said it will take another one or two months to complete.
